The request was made to deport Yazna's husband Shamnad, 36, of Kavalayoor, Varkala, along with his mother Rajeena, 56, and sister Fathima, 30.

"We collected crucial evidence against the accused proving their involvement in Yazna's death.
WhatsApp chats, recorded conversations, audio clips and statements of witnesses are against the accused, and the probe into the case is almost over. Since they are in a foreign country, there will be procedural delay in arresting them," the probe team said.
Meanwhile, Yazna's family alleged that the accused is planning to marry a Pakistani woman and shift to a different country. "We came to know that Shamnad is all set to marry a Pakistani woman and the family is leading a happy and peaceful life despite stringent legal measures being taken against them," said Yazmin Ibrahim, Yazna's sister.
Yazna's father Ibrahim said, "130 sovereigns of gold, 22 cents and Rs 10 lakh were given as dowry at the time of marriage, but he was greedy and tortured my daughter demanding even more."
"She used to hide all her issues from us so that we don't get upset. But she conveyed the issues to her friend and we transferred the chats and voice clips to the probe team. We need justice as she was killed for more dowry," he added.

Police Garland Thief With Shoes, Parade Him In Jammu; Probe Ordered After Social Media Flak

Last Updated: The incident has waded a team of Jammu Police into controversy after the video of the overzealous action was widely circulated on social media platforms. In a shocking and bizarre incident, a suspected thief, linked to a busted gang, was publicly humiliated with a garland of shoes and was paraded across Jammu after he was made to sit on a moving police vehicle's bonnet. The incident has waded a team of Jammu Police into controversy after the video of the overzealous action was widely circulated on social media platforms, prompting an official inquiry. The video of the incident purportedly showed the man – stripped to the waist — being handcuffed by police officers, placed on the bonnet of a police jeep and then driven around the streets of Jammu city with several onlookers cheering the act. The video, which surfaced online had sparked a debate among social media users, with many questioning the legality and ethics of the police action and some even terming it 'jungle raj". The accused is identified as a resident of Kashmir and was allegedly under the influence of drugs when he was arrested following a chase and a scuffle near a hospital in the city. The man was apparently caught for theft – stealing money while buying medicines. According to Bakshi Nagar Police Station SHO Azad Manhas, whose team was involved in the incident, a man who was robbed of Rs 40,000 while buying medicines for his patient a couple of days ago, identified the accused outside a hospital in the heart of the city and confronted him. The accused retaliated by attacking the man with a knife, causing injuries, and tried to escape, the SHO said, adding that the police personnel patrolling the area went after the accused and nabbed him. Local youths also joined the chase, and once the accused was caught, they reportedly tied his hands with a rope and placed a garland of footwear around his neck. He was then paraded through the streets and made to sit on the bonnet of the police vehicle for a short while, with a public address system announcing his arrest as he was taken to the police station. Condemning the incident, Jammu's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Joginder Singh ordered a departmental inquiry into the matter. Singh said the action of the police personnel was 'unprofessional, unbecoming of the members of a disciplined organisation", and called for a stern departmental action. 'In order to ascertain actual facts, a preliminary enquiry is hereby ordered and entrusted to SDPO (Sub-divisional police officer) City North, Jammu, who will enquire into the matter and submit his findings to this office within a week's time positively," the SSP said in an order as reported by the news agency. Some netizens tagged Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, DGP Nalin Prabhat and the National Human Rights Commission, demanding accountability. One of the social media users said the incident was a "shocking violation of human rights and due process," and emphasised that "law enforcers must not become lawbreakers." Another user called out the Jammu police, saying, "This is not justice, this is a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution. How can @JmuKmrPolice allow such lawlessness? Where is accountability?" A user questioned the police's justification for "such inhuman treatment," asking, "tying a half-naked man to a bonnet, parading him like a trophy—is this justice or jungle raj? Even the worst criminal deserves dignity under law. This is not policing, it's public humiliation." This marks the second such incident in Jammu this month, following a similar event on June 11, where three criminals involved in a shooting were publicly beaten by police. (With inputs from PTI)

Tea Estates, Bungalows, Luxury Cars, Bribes: Inside Bengal's Jobs Scam As ED Digs Deeper

Last Updated: The ED has attached bungalows valued at Rs 27.19 crore, factories, and vehicles linked to three tea estates allegedly used to launder the bribe money in the cash-for-jobs scam At least 25,000 'vitiated and tainted" appointments as termed by the Supreme Court, Rs 636.88 crore in assets attached by the ED, a broken education system under siege: what began as murmurs of irregularities in teacher and staffer recruitment process in West Bengal has exploded into one of India's major cash-for-jobs scams. The state education minister, senior officials, several middlemen, and an entire political ecosystem that allowed this corruption to fester, are all implicated. As Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government reels from the weight of the SSC recruitment scam, the Enforcement Directorate has intensified its crackdown in the case. It has already been probing the scam for more than three years and had arrested state education minister Partha Chatterjee in 2022. In the latest, the ED has attached bungalows valued at Rs 27.19 crore, factories, and vehicles linked to three tea estates allegedly used to launder the bribe money. This action follows the Supreme Court's scathing indictment of the recruitment process. CORRUPTION-FUNDED REAL ESTATE AND RICHES From bungalows and tea factories to vehicles, plants and its machinery, the seized assets are part of an elaborate web of corruption built on the backs of desperate job seekers, as per ED. Illegally collected cash from thousands of undeserving candidates allegedly funded the real estate empire of Prasanna Kumar Roy, identified as the primary middleman – all under the guise of Group C and D government recruitment. The ED's Kolkata zonal office has confirmed that the properties were held under the names of M/s Samsing Organic Tea Pvt Ltd, M/s Yangtong Organic Tea Pvt Ltd, and M/s Bamandanga Tea Estate Pvt Ltd. These firms are allegedly linked to Roy, who is now in jail. 'The attached assets include several luxury bungalows, industrial plants, and vehicles, purchased with cash siphoned off from desperate job seekers who were promised government posts in exchange for money," an ED official said. In a statement on Tuesday (June 24), the ED said it had earlier attached properties worth Rs 219.91 crore in this case and arrested Roy and Chandan Mondal (Roy's main agent; both are presently in judicial custody. 'In a related case of Assistant Teacher Recruitment Scam (SSC Asst. Teachers 9th to 12th), the ED has earlier attached properties worth Rs. 238.78 crore. In another case of Primary Teachers Recruitment Scam in the state, ED has already attached and seized properties worth Rs. 151 Crore. Thus, the total attachment by ED Kolkata in the recruitment scam cases now stands at Rs. 636.88 Crore," said a statement. In April, the SC in its observation stated: 'In our opinion, this is a case wherein the entire selection process has been vitiated and tainted beyond resolution. Manipulations and frauds on a large scale, coupled with the attempted cover-up, have dented the selection process beyond repair and partial redemption." CASE, CANCELLATIONS, CANDIDATES Outside the gates of Bikash Bhavan, protesting teachers and staffers – whose appointments were cancelled by the court order – include victims and also those hired under tainted appointments. They have staged a sit-in for months, demanding justice, jobs, and a cleansing of the recruitment process. Their anger has often spiralled into the gheraos. The extent of corruption is reflected in the SC judgment that declared the entire selection process 'vitiated and tainted", upholding the Calcutta High Court's order of cancelling over 25,000 teaching and non-teaching appointments made through the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (SSC). The investigations were launched following FIRs registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, revealing a web of fake merit lists, bribe collection, and systematic bypassing of recruitment norms. The revelations during the course of investigation are politically explosive. But, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has dismissed ED action as 'vendetta". First Published:
