
Hornetsecurity partners with Amazon to enhance SES Mail security
Hornetsecurity has entered into a partnership with Amazon to offer its Vade Advanced Email Security Add-On to customers using Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) Mail Manager.
The partnership provides users of Amazon SES Mail Manager with access to additional automated, real-time email protection against threats such as spam, malware, and phishing attacks. The Vade Advanced Email Security Add-On employs behaviour analysis, patented artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and real-time scanning to help safeguard email communications.
Amazon SES is a cloud-based email platform aimed at automating high-volume email communications. SES Mail Manager, which sits on top of this service, offers businesses features to control and oversee their email operations, including management of campaigns, advanced analytics, template systems for standardised communications, automated handling of undeliverable emails, and the capability to scale to high email volumes.
With the new integration, customers can scan and protect both inbound and outbound messages, while maintaining control over their email workflows through the SES Mail Manager interface. The add-on is positioned for online businesses and departments using Amazon SES for transactions, marketing, and other communications efforts such as sending newsletters or campaign materials.
Hornetsecurity's add-on brings together technology elements including AI-powered threat detection, behaviour-based analysis of incoming and outgoing messages, and natural language processing to perform analysis of messages in real time. These features are designed to help organisations maintain safe communications and reduce exposure to common email-borne threats.
Amazon SES Mail Manager customers can choose to manage and customise their security policies, opting for additional controls and integrations to suit the operational needs of their business. The Vade Advanced Email Security Add-On is included as one of these selectable options.
The partnership between Hornetsecurity and Amazon signals a step towards bolstering email defence for SES Mail Manager users, providing the opportunity to integrate security features directly within the existing Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment while preserving oversight over email workflow management.

Christchurch entrepreneur becomes the first New Zealander in space
Christchurch entrepreneur Mark Rocket has become the first New Zealander to make it into space. Rocket made history on board the 12th crewed flight for Blue Origin's New Shepard programme in West Texas. Rocket told The Press the flight exceeded his expectations. "It was incredibly intense," he told The Press. "Just a really amazing space flight." With a New Zealand flag in hand, Rocket and five others levelled off 105km above the Earth, where they experienced zero gravity for 11 minutes. Photo: Blue Origin Rocket told The Press he experienced "fairly steady acceleration" after lift-off. But once they reached "3400km/h, the acceleration is just absolutely incredible". When the main engine cut off and the booster separated from the rocket, the crew experienced zero gravity. He said a highlight was doing flips in mid-air in the true darkness of space. "It was just a totally immersive, full-on, thrilling experience," Rocket told The Press. "So I did another backflip and jumped into the seat and within a minute you're doing quite a few Gs and it goes up to about 5Gs." -APL

Needy data centres showing up in water-scarce areas
Photo: A joint investigation by UK media company, The Guardian, and a non-profit investigating organisation, Source Material, has found that big tech companies are operating data centres that use vast amounts of water in areas of the world where water is scarce. The companies are also reported to be building many more. The developments could potentially have a huge impact on populations already living with water shortages. In response to questions from the two media organisations, Amazon and Google defended their developments, saying they always take water scarcity into account. The reporters used local news reports and industry sources to compile a map of 632 datacentres - either built or under development. Kathryn speak to one of the reporters from Source Material involved in the investigation, Constanza Gambarini.
