Former NMSU basketball star Pascal Siakam records double-double in Game 1 of NBA Finals
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Former New Mexico State men's basketball forward Pascal Siakam recorded a double-double in the Indiana Pacers 111-110 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, OK on Thursday night.
Siakam led the Pacers in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor, 1-of-2 shooting from three, and 4-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Siakam also recorded 10 rebounds and three assists in the contest.
The Pacers rallied back from down 15 points in the fourth quarter. Tyrese Haliburton hit a midrange jumper to put the Pacers up 111-110 with 0.3 seconds left in the game.

Pacers got a stop on the other end to take the Game 1 win and go up 1-0 in the championship series.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals will be played on Sunday.

Sixers' Quentin Grimes has important message for NBA about the Finals The NBA Finals got underway on Thursday night as the Indiana Pacers and the Oklahoma City Thunder began a battle to decide the 2025 NBA champions. The stage was set as both teams look to win their franchise's first ever championship and the court with YouTube TV ads. There was not much NBA Finals signage other than an imprint of the Larry O'Brien trophy being on the basket stanchion, but that was all. No special Finals script on the court. No specialty added to the Paycom Center to signal that this game means more. This is for the championship and the court appeared to look like it was a random Tuesday night game in January. Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes, as well as the rest of the NBA watching world, took to Twitter to send a message to the league about the lack of finals signage on the court. Grimes is 100% right. The league has to do something to make the Finals feel as special as it ought to. There needs to be more signage and a change to the court or something in order to take it all to another level as it had been in the past. As for Grimes' current free agency status, the Sixers will look to bring back the restricted free agent after he performed well in 28 games for Philadelphia. The Cleveland Cavaliers received some tremendous news ahead of Tuesday's Game 5 matchup against the Indiana Pacers. This comes in the form of Donovan Mitchell overcoming the ankle injury that forced him to exit their Game 4 loss on Sunday, allowing him to suit up for Tuesday's do-or-die clash. Mitchell might not be 100% at this point, but the fact that the Cavs get their best player back on the court for Game 5 is an undeniably significant development for them and their hopes to extend this second-round NBA playoffs series. Advertisement That wasn't the only bit of good news the Cavs received before the game. The team took to social media before tip-off to make a big announcement about head coach Kenny Atkinson. "Kenny Atkinson has won the 2024-25 Rudy Tomjanovich Award, which honors an NBA coach for his cooperation with the media and fans, as well as his excellence on the court!" the Cavs posted on X. "This season, Atkinson guided the Cavaliers to a 64-18 record, the best in the Eastern Conference, and was consistently thoughtful and engaging with the media." This is the first time Atkinson has won this award, which is given by the Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA). Atkinson succeeds Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who bagged the title last season.
