Nick Saban is already winning awards in retirement.

Saban beat out several other notable names in the category for the award, including Amazon Prime Video's Ryan Fitzpatrick and Richard Sherman, ESPN's Jason Kelce and CBS Sports' Jay Wright. "College GameDay" also won the Sports Emmy for "Outstanding Studio Show — Weekly."
Saban joined ESPN last year after he retired from Alabama — where he won six national championships and dominated the sport for nearly two decades — and he quickly joined the network as an analyst on its 'College GameDay' show. Saban fit right in with ESPN's iconic college football pregame show each week, though he did receive three official complaints with the FCC about his swearing.
'It was a new experience,' Saban said of his time at 'College GameDay' before the announcement, via the Tuscaloosa News. 'A lot of people helped contribute to learning how to do it. I certainly appreciate them and thank them for that. We had a really good team of people who has lots of experience, I think, helped me fit in the program and hopefully we created value of some sort.'
Saban will be back on the 'College GameDay' desk this fall. He's also been very outspoken about his displeasure with how the sport operates now in the new era of name, image and likeness payments. He's been floated by many as a choice for a college football commissioner, though that's a position that doesn't exist. He met with President Donald Trump about the issues recently, too, and is reportedly set to be involved in a new commission on college sports that Trump created — even though Saban isn't sure that is necessary.
Regardless of what his future in the sport looks like, Saban has clearly found a great new home at ESPN with his coaching career behind him. And now, he's got some hardware to prove that.

Pat McAfee has predictable response to ‘bulls–t' Adam Schefter ban report

It was all 'bulls–t,' according to Pat McAfee. The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported Thursday that McAfee had 'essentially banned' Adam Schefter from McAfee's self-titled program after the ESPN NFL insider was unavailable for a free agency show in March. Well, the rumors were cleared up later on Thursday when Schefter made his first appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show' in three months. Advertisement 3 Pat McAfee responded Thursday to reports that he banned Adam Schefter from his show. The Pat McAfee Show 'I learned a lot about my business this morning in another article,' McAfee said on air. 'Seems like that happens all the time. I don't know if it's just normal, par for the course, I guess it's just life these days. There's so many of them it's hard to keep track of, but when that rat writes something, it is nice to just be like: 'Well that's bullsh-t,' immediately.' McAfee's frustrations with the report led to the perfect introduction for Schefter to the show. Advertisement 'Joining us now: a banned man,' McAfee welcomed him. Schefter was clearly unconcerned with the report. 'Pat, as I was saying when I was so rudely interrupted three months ago,' he joked just after being welcomed on air. 'Aaron Rodgers is gonna sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.' Advertisement 3 Pat McAfee reacts to Adam Schefter's humorous entrance to the show. The Pat McAfee Show 3 Pat McAfee and Adam Schefter had a laugh after rumors swirled that the latter was banned from The Pat McAfee Show. The Pat McAfee Show It was a humorous entrance for the NFL insider, but it did put into perspective how long ago it had been since Schefter, typically a frequent guest on the show, had made an appearance. His last appearance was at the beginning of NFL free agency. Advertisement Now, Rodgers has finally signed after he waited about as long as he possibly could to sign with the Steelers. In Schefter's time away from the show, McAfee welcomed NFL Network's insider Ian Rapoport numerous times, which aided in the swirling of the rumors that McAfee was upset with Schefter. In response to The Athletic's report about the alleged drama, ESPN president of content Burke Magnus said that 'Pat and his show are thriving on ESPN,' and 'We've continuously seen those out there that are seemingly obsessed with wanting to see Pat fail on ESPN. This rumor is just the latest example of that.'

Pat McAfee reportedly thinks he can do College GameDay better on his own

Pat McAfee reportedly thinks he can do College GameDay better on his own Two seasons as a host on ESPN's College GameDay has Pat McAfee wondering if he should leave the band and start touring solo. Granted, there's still a long way to go before that could even happen — McAfee has two years left on his GameDay contract — but according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, the thought of leaving ESPN's flagship college football show to start his own version has crossed McAfee's mind. Per The Athletic: "McAfee has mused with associates about starting his own, independent version of GameDay, according to sources briefed on discussions. This does not appear to be happening, at least not now. But he is mercurial and can make big decisions seemingly on whims. McAfee cares about his image. During a GameDay stop in Norman, Oklahoma, last fall, McAfee grew upset about being shown swinging and missing during a segment in which he faced a University of Oklahoma softball pitcher. McAfee, according to sources briefed on the incident, demanded to know the name of the GameDay staff member who put it on the air, but he was denied the information. Marchand also noted that contractual obligations haven't stopped McAfee from making career-altering decisions in the past. The former Indianapolis Colts punter left FanDuel in the middle of a reported four-year, $120 million deal to sign a licensing agreement for The Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. A solo McAfee show would surely face some serious trouble finding its footing on campuses as the biggest college games of the week are already dominated by GameDay and Fox's Big Noon Kickoff — both of which have network deals with the biggest conferences. Then again, there would be plenty of people happy to see McAfee's antics move far away from College GameDay. Considering McAfee has never been shy about bashing people who talk about him, we'll see if he has any response here soon enough.

Adam Silver addresses negative feedback through first 2 games of the 2025 NBA Finals

NBA commissioner Adam Silver has addressed the negative feedback from the first two games of the 2025 NBA Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers. Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media over the lack of effort to make the Finals series feel different than the regular season. The first factor that led to sour reactions was how the NBA did not have the special finals on-court logos featuring the Larry O'Brien trophy. Advertisement After fans lashed out on social media during Game 1, the league flashed virtual NBA Finals and Larry O'Brien icons on the court at Paycom Center for Game 2. Still, viewers were not satisfied with the quality of the graphics during the ESPN broadcast. Before Wednesday night's Game 3 in Indiana, Silver joined the ESPN panel and explained their decision. "I've seen some of the chat on social media about on-court decals. People don't realize they went away a decade ago because there were claims that, Kendrick [Perkins] knows, they were slippery," Silver said, pointing to former center Kendrick Perkins, who was on the broadcast. Advertisement "We're back to adding them virtually, so those are on," he added. Silver also addressed the low ratings through the first two games of the Thunder-Pacers series. Game 1 was the least-watched first game of the Nielsen meter era (since 1988) outside the COVID-19-marred seasons in 2020 and 2021, averaging a 4.7 rating and 8.91 million viewers on ABC, per Sports Media Watch. The game suffered an 18% drop in ratings and 19% in viewership. The Thunder's Game 2 blowout over the Pacers did not do any better, as it drew nearly identical numbers to the series opener. OKC's 123-107 win became the second-least watched Game 2 since 2007, excluding the 2020 bubble, with 8.76 million viewers on average on ABC. Still, Silver insisted that the Finals are impacting the small markets of Oklahoma City and Indianapolis. On their way to the Finals, the Pacers and Thunder defeated teams with huge stars from bigger markets by knocking off the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves. Advertisement "It's an interesting time in society," Silver said. "We have two markets that are completely captured by the Finals. Every store you go to, there's signage. Everybody on the street is wearing team colors. I've been doing this for a long time; I don't remember it being two markets that feel so dominant to have these games. "As a media matter, people compare us to 20 years ago, but Games 1 and 2, so far, are the highest-rated programs in May and June so far on television," he added. "If something beats us, it'll be another sports program. 20 years ago, we often didn't win the night when the Finals were on, but the absolute rating is lower now. " Indiana took the series lead with a 107-116 win as the series shifted to The Hoosier State. The Pacers will look to secure a 3-1 lead in Game 4 on Friday night before the series heads back to Oklahoma City.
