BMRCL approaches CMRS for safety inspection of Yellow Line
Bengaluru: Namma Metro has approached the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) for the statutory safety inspection of the Yellow Line, and expect the third trainset to arrive in the city by May 15..The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) shared updates on the 19.15-km Yellow Line (RV Road to Bommasandra) project on Wednesday..Three coaches of the third trainset have been dispatched from the Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), West Bengal. The remaining three coaches of the third trainset are scheduled to be loaded and transported to Bengaluru via road by May 2, and are expected to arrive in the city between May 10 and May 15. .The BMRCL has so far received only two trainsets of six coaches each..BMRCL signs pact with two firms on train ads, aims to earn Rs 25 cr per year .Speaking to DH, BMRCL Chief M Maheshwar Rao said that the reason why only three coaches have been dispatched first was because of trailer arrangements. "The remaining are being packed. They are expected to be dispatched by May 2. If trailers are delayed, dispatch can be delayed to May 4," he said..The new trainset will undergo static and dynamic testing, he added, noting that the BMRCL wrote to the CMRS last week. The fourth trainset will tentatively arrive in the city by July-end..With the arrival of three trainsets, the BMRCL is aiming to meet the government deadline to operationalise the Yellow Line by May-end, but if their timelines don't match, the opening might be pushed by a week..Trains will be operated at a frequency between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the number of stops..A well-placed source had told DH earlier in April that the trains on the Yellow Line will initially stop only at RV Road, Jayadeva Hospital, Silk Board, Infosys, and Bommasandra.

These small and medium units, numbering around 200, have been handling a substantial volume of business for the past three to four decades, procuring stocks from granite quarries and selling the polished granite to exporters. Each big firm is handling around 1 to 1.5 lakh cubic meters of stock, equivalent to the stock processed by nearly 15-20 small firms. According to sources, around 20 big companies have started operations in Prakasam district, each with the capacity to process about 1.5 lakh cubic meters of stone. This means that just 20 firms are processing a volume equivalent to that of 200 small companies. The big firms have the capacity to handle even more stock in the future due to their advanced machinery, which requires significantly less manpower. Each big unit is reportedly procuring over 150-200 containers of granite per month, equivalent to the entire stock procured by all the small units combined. The granite quarry owners are also supporting the big firms, reportedly making advance payments of Rs 2-4 crore per month. The small polishing unit owners are struggling to survive, and one owner, Raghunatha Reddy, stated that the entry of big firms with advanced machinery and their influence over quarry managements has crippled the industry.
