Former Clemson star wide receiver Hunter Renfrow signs with the Carolina Panthers
Hunter Renfrow is officially back in the league — and Clemson fans won't have to go far to see him play.
The Carolina Panthers announced Sunday night that they have signed the veteran wide receiver, giving their offense another experienced option.
Renfrow, 29, spent the 2023 season with the Raiders, appearing in all 17 games and making three starts. He totaled 25 catches for 255 yards that year, but was released by Las Vegas in March 2024 and went unsigned for the season. This offseason, he met with both the Raiders and Panthers before ultimately landing in Carolina.
A fifth-round draft pick in 2019, Renfrow's best stretch came in 2021 when he earned Pro Bowl honors, posting career highs with 103 receptions, 1,038 yards, and nine touchdowns to help the Raiders reach the playoffs. Over his career, he has compiled 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns in 73 games.
Renfrow, a South Carolina native, was a two-time national champion at Clemson, including catching the game-winning touchdown against Alabama in the 2016 title game. He finished his college career with 186 catches for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns, setting school records for starts by a receiver (47) and consecutive games with a catch (43). He also took home the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the nation's top former walk-on player.
Now, Renfrow is back in familiar territory — and ready for a fresh start in the NFL.

Hurts has been the kind of leader and winner teams beg for in a starting quarterback. Can he reach new heights as a Super Bowl champion now? Hurts' numbers aren't bad. He has a career completion percentage of over 64%, has thrown for close to 15,000 yards, and has an 85:39 touchdown-to-interception ratio. These numbers are good. They can be a whole lot better. That's where Hurts is now. He is a proven winner with the talent around him. If he can improve as a passer and bolster his numbers, his standing as not only one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but the greatest quarterback in franchise history will be unchallenged for good. The Las Vegas Raiders have completely retooled their wide receiver room ahead of the 2025 NFL season. After trading Davante Adams to the New York Jets last year, the team has needed another wideout to step up alongside Jakobi Meyers. They took TCU's Jack Bech in the second round, Tennessee's Dont'e Thornton in the fourth round, and Montana State's Tommy Mellott in the sixth round. While both Thornton and Mellott have signed, however, Bech is yet to put pen to paper for the Silver and Black. This is music to the ears of Raider Nation, who know all-too-well what can happen when a rookie sits out too long. It seems like the finer details are being resolved, and the team can expect him to be at mandatory minicamp. Bech is in a difficult spot, as no second-rounders from this year's draft have signed their contract yet outside of picks No. 33 and No. 34. The Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns set a precedent by signing these players -- Jayden Higgins and Carson Schwesinger -- to fully-guaranteed deals. Now, every agent of a second-round pick is attempting to get their player a fully-guaranteed contract, which typically only happens for first-rounders. Bech was the No. 58 pick, which is in the latter half of the second round, so it may be a reach to get that level of guarantees. He and new head coach Pete Carroll let several big contributors leave during free agency this offseason in favor of other players. However, they have built both a younger and cheaper roster than last year's four-win team, which is promising for a franchise that has long struggled. With cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Jack Jones no longer with the Silver and Black, the team added 2021 first-rounder Eric Stokes during free agency and used a third-round pick on Iowa State's Darien Porter. This news is a bit unexpected considering 2023 fourth-round pick Jakorian Bennett was above-average in his starting role last season and both Stokes and Decamerion Richardson have more experience. It is no surprise, however, that the team is investing heavily in Porter because he embodies everything that Pete Carroll loves in a cornerback. At nearly 6-foot-4 with 33 and 1/8-inch arms, he has the ideal frame and physical play style that Carroll covets in a defensive back. Carroll may be throwing the rookie into the fire during OTAs and plans on implementing Bennett as a starter once he is fully recovered from his shoulder injury. However, it is also possible that Carroll found a diamond in the rough once again and the Raiders will rely on Porter heavily as a rookie.
