Paris Saint-Germain beats the Seattle Sounders 2-0 to reach Club World Cup round of 16

SEATTLE (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain didn't allow a single shot on goal as the European powerhouse beat the Seattle Sounders 2-0 on Monday and advanced to the Club World Cup round of 16.
Paris Saint-Germain opened the scoring in the 35th minute when a shot from Vitinha that would've finished well wide of the net hit teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and deflected into it. The UEFA Champions League winners scored again in the 66th minute as the Sounders' transition defense broke down. Seattle failed to locate Achraf Hakimi, who was wide open by the back post. Bradley Barcola's pass found him with plenty of time to control and strike.
Paris Saint-Germain won Group B on a goal-differential tie after Atlético Madrid defeated Botafogo 1-0.

Rogers (1-0) made his third start and turned in the longest outing by an Oriole this season, throwing 72 of his 101 pitches for strikes. He struck out four and didn't issue a walk. Advertisement Holliday's run-scoring double followed Chadwick Tromp's first hit with Baltimore, a two-out double in the third off Texas starter Patrick Corbin (4-7). Coby Mayo and Cedric Mullins had consecutive one-out singles in the fifth and Holliday hit his ninth homer one out later, a 402-foot shot the opposite way to left-center field for a 4-0 lead. Brazilian soccer fans have been packing Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro for Club World Cup watch parties since the tournament began, and Palmeiras fans brought their carnival to Hard Rock Stadium Monday night for the decisive Group A match against Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates. The smell of grilled Brazilian steak filled the air in the parking lots before the match. A sea of green filled the east side of the stadium and there were a lot of green shirts mixed with Inter Miami pink No. 10 jerseys throughout the building. Miami's 'La Familia' supporters' groups cheered from the west stands with their banners and drums. Once again, Hard Rock Stadium drew a large, lively crowd after averaging 60,626 fans through the first four games. Both teams aimed for a win to secure first place in the group, but a tie was enough to send both through to the Round of 16 next weekend. FC Porto and Al Ahly played simultaneously in the other Group A match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, hanging on to slim hopes of staying alive. Palmeiras and Miami were tied on points with four apiece heading into Monday's game, and the Brazilian team held the edge with a plus-two goal differential to Miami's plus-one. Porto was third with one point and minus-one differential, while Al Ahly was fourth with one point and minus-two. A Miami win guarantees a first-place finish with seven points and the team would travel to Philadelphia to play another Brazilian team, Botafogo, at noon on Saturday. 'We should not let it not be a burden, but rather but an exciting challenge for this group of players who are on a good run through the first two games. 'It would be a big mistake if we went into it thinking about not playing it and only about the result. I think that when you think about the result, things can happen during the game that make it very difficult to get back into the game. In the end, our idea is to go and win the game like we've always done, like every time we go into a game, whether it's in the Club World Cup, MLS, the Champions Cup, or any other competition we're involved in.' Inter Miami's Starting XI had two changes from the Porto game: Tomas Aviles started at center back in place of injured Ian Fray and Fede Redondo started instead of Benja Cremaschi in the midfield. The lineup: Oscar Ustari, Marcelo Weigandt, Aviles, Maxi Falcon, Noah Allen, Tadeo Allende, Redondo, Sergio Busquets, Telasco Segovia, Messi, and Luis Suarez. The English club reportedly paid a $39.3 million transfer fee with another $26.6 million in performance-based incentives. Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez leaves game after being hit on the right hand by a pitch
Associated Press CHICAGO (AP) — Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez left the game Monday night in the first inning after being hit on the hand by a 95.9 mph fastball from Chicago White Sox starter Shane Smith. The team said on social media he sustained a bruise and that X-rays were negative. Suárez hopped in the batter's box as he raised his right hand in pain. He dropped his bat and grabbed his right hand with his left. He was replaced in the field for the bottom of the first by Ildemaro Vargas. The day started with Suárez being named the NL player of the week after he batted .440 with four homers and 10 RBIs. It's the second Diamondbacks player to recently be hit by a pitch. Star outfielder Corbin Carroll hasn't played since a sinker caught him in the left hand Wednesday in Toronto.
