Williams has 'big decision' to make on eye surgery
Three-time world champion Mark Williams says he has a "big decision to make" over whether to go through with lens replacement surgery.The Welshman, who is level at 8-8 with world number one Judd Trump in his World Championship semi-final at the Crucible, is scheduled to have the procedure on 12 June.Williams, who turned 50 in March, said recently that his "eyes had completely gone" and that his eyesight had "deteriorated quite badly" in the previous six months.However, he says he has been discouraged after fellow professional Anthony Hamilton, once ranked in the world's top 10, told him it had "ruined his career".Williams said: "I have been reading up and talking to people who have had it done and I've got to be honest, it is putting me off a bit."I've got a big decision to make. A couple of people I have spoken to, especially Anthony Hamilton at length, have said it is no good under the lights and it has ruined his career."It has sort of put me under pressure. After this is finished, it is something I am going to have to look more into."
Williams won the Champion of Champions title in November, two months after reaching the final of the Saudi Arabia Masters, and is currently ranked sixth in the world.Before the World Championship, he tried playing with contact lenses but elected to play without them after discussions with his coach Lee Walker.He has defeated Wu Yize, Hossein Vafaei and won a classic against fellow 'Class of 92' member John Higgins on the final black in Sheffield.Should he beat Trump, he would become the oldest player to reach a Crucible final. "I am in the semi-final of the biggest tournament we've got," he added. "I am still playing alright. What do you do? Do I keep playing blurry? I don't know."

He is one of the new contestants trying to find love on the 2025 series of Love Island. Despite having a famous dad, Dejon has denied that he is a nepo baby as he enters the the villa. He has now spoken about his footballed dad Gifton Noel-Williams who has previously played for Stoke City, Watford and Burnley. Dejon works as a personal trainer and semi-professional footballer himself and has said his dad is proud of his own "football journey". However, he has now revealed that as a result he has been labelled as a nepo baby but hadn't heard the term used before this. Speaking about the situation, Dejon said: "Now that I've been called a nepo baby, I don't know how to react." He was also asked about his friendship with former Love Island star Tyrique Hyde. He said: "I've known him since we were kids, like babies. My dad and his dad played for the same team and they were best friends. As we got older, we had similar interests. We played for the same teams and we played against each other at football." Dejon is currently playing for Bedford Town and has previously played for Oxford United, Wealdstone, Guadalajara and the Grenada national team. The next series of Love Island is due to grace our screens on Monday for the 2025 series. A whole host of new singles have been chosen to go into the villa to try and find love while also navigating the twists and turns of the show. The series will be filmed in its usual Majorcan villa but it has been given a spruce up since last year. Producer Mike Spence said the crew have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure this season is one of the most explosive ever. He said: "We're going to give it all we've got. What we have planned for week one has never been done before on any Love Island series ever." The producer confirmed that there will be plenty of drama to get excited for and teased that week one will go down in history. Mike said: "We have a huge week one planned. It's hard to say what we're doing without saying it and I just hope we can pull it off. The way the islanders are coupled up is different too, we've never done it this way before." Love Island returns Monday, June 9 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

Fulham's head of academy recruitment, Malcolm Elias, who previously performed a similar role at Liverpool, has died after an impressive career that saw him unlock the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Gareth Bale Fulham have confirmed that Malcolm Elias, who served as their head of academy recruitment, has died. He spent 16 years at Craven Cottage and had previously nurtured young talent, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, elsewhere. Elias left Anfield to move to west London in 2009, where he's been ever since. He's keen eye for a player saw him spot and aid the development of Harvey Elliott, who made his debut as the Premier League's youngest ever player and has since moved to Liverpool. In his previous role at Southampton Elias also nurtured young stars like Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott before they went on to big and better things. However he has now passed following a short illness with Fulham issuing their condolences to his family. A club statement read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague and dear friend, Malcolm Elias, after a short illness. "The Club's Head of Academy Recruitment, Malcolm had a fantastic reputation in football for unearthing and nurturing young talent. "The influence that Malcolm had on the modern game cannot be understated, having worked with and developed the likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Luke Harris and Jay Stansfield, to name but a few. A hugely popular figure around the training ground, Malcolm will be sorely missed by all who knew him. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to Paula - Malcolm's ever devoted and endlessly supportive wife of nearly 50 years - his sons Andrew and Daniel, his six beloved grandchildren, as well as his additional family and friends."
