Vocal royalty Bassie dominates star-studded 2025 Metro FM Music Awards

News2404-05-2025

Sultry singer Bassie dominated this year's Metro FM Music Awards, scooping three impressive awards, including Best Music Video and Best Amapiano Song.
The night's other big winners included Woodblock DJs, Mawelele and Xolly Mncwango.
This was the final year the awards were hosted in the province of the rising sun after a three-year deal with the Mpumalanga provincial government.
Mpumalanga's Mbombela Stadium was the pulsating centre of South African music on Saturday evening as it hosted the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards. The province came alive for a night brimming with glitz, glamour, and unforgettable moments – an anthem of celebration for the nation's top musical talent.
At the heart of it all was sultry vocalist Bassie, who cemented her place as one of the night's biggest winners by bagging three impressive awards. She won Best Music Video, Best Collaboration Song, and Best Amapiano Song for her chart-dominating hit, Kwelanga 2.0.

Hometown heroes Woodblock DJs, a rising sensation, followed closely behind with two awards in the Best Viral Challenge and Song of the Year categories. Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Mawelele matched their tally, and gospel powerhouse Xolly Mncwango also won two awards for her soul-stirring contributions to the genre.
International superstar Makhadzi, although not present, secured the coveted Artist of the Year honour, proving her enduring impact on the global stage. Mpumalanga native K.O. clinched the Best Hip-Hop Song award for his collaborative hit Too Much, featuring Nasty C.
While the night celebrated achievements, it was equally defined by stellar live performances. Bassie delivered a show-stopping act, joined by the electrifying rhythms of Black Motion, K.O., and several others, who kept the audience on their feet.
As the festivities progressed, the event showcased its improved organisation compared to previous years. However, a handful of technical hiccups served as a gentle reminder that no production exists without its imperfections.
Still, the magic of the night outshone any glitches, leaving fans and artists alike reminiscing about a glittering evening that truly celebrated South African music's finest.

Is ‘Special Ops: Lioness' returning for season 3? Everything we know so far

By Aman Shukla Published on June 7, 2025, 19:48 IST Special Ops: Lioness , the gripping spy thriller created by Taylor Sheridan, has kept audiences on edge with its high-stakes missions and stellar cast, including Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, and Morgan Freeman. With Season 2 wrapping up on December 8, 2024, fans are eagerly asking: Is Special Ops: Lioness Season 3 happening? Here's everything we know so far. Has Special Ops: Lioness Been Renewed for Season 3? As of now, Paramount+ has not officially confirmed Special Ops: Lioness Season 3. However, there are strong indicators that a third season is likely. Zoe Saldaña, who stars as CIA operative Joe McNamara, revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she signed on for at least three seasons, suggesting a contractual commitment for more episodes. Additionally, South African streaming platform Showmax responded to a fan inquiry, stating that Season 3 is 'confirmed' and expected to arrive 'soon,' though no official announcement from Paramount+ has backed this claim yet. Special Ops: Lioness Potential Release Date for Season 3 Without an official renewal, no specific release date for Special Ops: Lioness Season 3 has been announced. However, based on the production timelines of previous seasons, we can make an educated guess. Season 1 premiered in July 2023, and Season 2 debuted in October 2024, with filming for Season 1 occurring between September 2022 and January 2023. If Season 3 follows a similar schedule, production could begin in mid-2025, potentially leading to a release in late 2025 or early 2026. What Will the Plot of Season 3 Be About? Special Ops: Lioness follows Joe McNamara and her team of female operatives as they undertake dangerous undercover missions to combat terrorism. Each season introduces a new high-risk operation, and Season 2 ended with the intense 'Operation Sky Hawk,' where the team intercepted Chinese nuclear scientists in Iraq to prevent escalation with Iran and China. The finale left several storylines open, setting the stage for Season 3. While specific plot details remain speculative, Season 3 is expected to dive into a new mission, potentially involving global conflicts hinted at in Season 2, such as tensions with China over Taiwan or new geopolitical threats. The series' signature blend of espionage, action, and moral dilemmas will likely continue, with Joe grappling with the personal toll of her covert work. Fans can also expect more paranoia, double-crosses, and intense firefights, as teased by the Season 2 finale's setup. Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Alan Alda, Mike Farrell Among Those Paying Tribute to Loretta Swit: 'A Supremely Talented Actor'

Hollywood is paying tribute to Loretta Swit after news of her death was announced Friday. According to a police report, the M*A*S*H star died of suspected natural causes at her home in New York City, her publicist, Harlan Boll, announced. More from The Hollywood Reporter Renée Victor, Voice of Abuelita in 'Coco,' Dies at 86 Devin Harjes, 'Boardwalk Empire,' 'Daredevil' and 'Gotham' Actor, Dies at 41 Sherry Robb, Literary Agent, Talent Manager and Producer, Dies at 81 Swit appeared in all but 11 episodes of M*A*S*H during its 11-season run, earning two Emmys for her portrayal of Maj. Margaret 'Hot Lips' Houlihan. Notably, she was nominated for 10 Emmys, one for every season she appeared in except season one. After her tenure in the medical war drama, she went on to star in several films, including Freebie and the Bean (1974), Race With the Devil (1975), S.O.B. (1981) and BoardHeads (1998). Alan Alda, Swit's longtime M*A*S*H co-star, paid tribute to her on X. 'Loretta was a supremely talented actor. She deserved all her 10 EMMY nominations and her 2 wins. But more than acting her part, she created it,' he wrote on Friday. 'She worked hard in showing the writing staff how they could turn the character from a one joke sexist stereotype into a real person — with real feelings and ambitions. We celebrated the day the script came out, listing her character not as Hot Lips but as Margaret. Loretta made the most of her time here.' Mike Farrell, who joined the series in season four, shared a photo of the late actress on Instagram, writing, 'Loretta… 1937-2025.' In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie Farr, who portrayed Corporal Maxwell Q. Klinger in M*A*S*H, said, 'Our dear Loretta was so talented, beautiful and an exceptional friend. There is a void in my life now and I shall always have a very special place for her in my heart. May her memory be eternal.' Also in a statement to THR, Journey Gunderson, the executive director of the National Comedy Center, said, 'Loretta Swit's portrayal of Margaret 'Hot Lips' Houlihan was groundbreaking – bringing heart, humor, and strength to one of television comedy's most enduring roles. Her talent extended well beyond that iconic character, with acclaimed work on both stage and screen that showcased her intelligence, versatility, and passion. That legacy endures through the cultural impact of MASH, which is proudly represented in the National Comedy Center.'
