Why the Knicks already have everything they need to save their playoff hopes

Why the Knicks already have everything they need to save their playoff hopes

New York Post2 days ago

To paraphrase Kevin Millar: Don't let them win Game 5.
The thing about these Eastern Conference finals, about this 3-1 deficit the Knicks are facing heading back home for Thursday's do-or-die Game 5 against the Pacers, is that it feels a lot less like the Pacers are running the Knicks off the floor and a lot more like the Knicks are leaving something on the table.
The Knicks' nine-point loss in Game 4 on Tuesday was the most lopsided game of the series, and as well as the Pacers played — Tyrese Haliburton putting up a 32-point triple-double, Aaron Nesmith coming off injury and shooting well, Pascal Siakam dropping 30, Bennedict Mathurin putting in 20 off the bench — the overwhelming feeling coming out of it was that the Knicks had put up a stinker.
Maybe there's some bias there (this is a New York paper after all), and this isn't meant to diminish what's been an excellent series from Indiana.

Expert picks & predictions for Saturday's Knicks vs. Pacers game 'While it might be repetitive or boring, I am going back to the well on Jalen Brunson Over 29.5 to 30.5 points. Brunson has been a money-maker to the Over, scoring 32, 31, 23, 36, and 43 points over this series — going 4-1 to the Over. In an elimination game with a chance for the NBA Finals, I see no reason to go Under. I lean the Knicks to cover the +4 and keep this close as I gave out Knicks in 6 (+600) and the series to go to 7 games (+220) as a hedge, so with Knicks in 6 over, I need a Knicks victory in Game 6 to secure a profit.' Jalen Brunson Could Be the King of New York. He Just Needs the Crown.

New York City is a little bit different when the Knicks are playing deep into the playoffs. Rowdy crowds of fans fill the street outside Madison Square Garden, even during road games. Chants of 'Lets go Knicks' build to a crescendo — at Yankee Stadium. And this year, West 11th Street has a name familiar to fans of the team's starting point guard: Jalen Brunson Boulevard. Last week, after the Knicks shocked and defeated the champion Boston Celtics in the N.B.A.'s Eastern Conference semifinals, the city honored Brunson and his teammates by temporarily renaming some streets after them. Brunson's No. 11 jerseys dot the sidewalks and bars from the Bronx to Coney Island and well beyond. There was even a Brunson look-alike contest on the steps of the Eighth Avenue post office on Monday. 'He means everything to the city right now,' said Joe Tuman, 38, a sanitation worker from Long Island, who wore a Knicks jersey outside Madison Square Garden on Thursday. This was six hours before the Knicks, facing elimination from the playoffs, beat the Indiana Pacers behind 32 points from Brunson. 'If he ran for mayor,' Tuman concluded, 'I'd vote for him.' New York has always had an abundant supply of magnetic star athletes who approach royalty in the city — from as far back as Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson to more recent stars like Carmelo Anthony, Sabrina Ionescu and Aaron Judge, the Yankees colossal outfielder, who enthralls roughly half the city.
