This award-winning Colin M Smith in Kirriemuir, Angus, has been a go-to for all things tech and home appliances.
In 1973, the family-run business opened a new branch on East High Street in Forfar followed by another in the Abbeygate Shopping Centre in Arbroath in 2007.
But after more than six decades, bosses have made the "difficult decision" to close the doors on the Kirriemuir branch and run all its operations from Forfar.
The shop's owner, Johnny Smith, took to social media to announce the sad news - branding it the "end of an era".

He said: "Our Kirrie shop will bring down the shutters for the last time today.
'We will be relocating back to the Forfar store.'
He added: 'More and more of our Kirrie customers come through to the Forfar store, due to on-site parking, and for the larger choice we have on display – a sign of the times.
'We will continue to serve the people of Kirrie, delivering six days of the week.'

Locals flocked to the comments to share their disappointment at the announcement.

"It's sad for sure, but I think it's a tremendous feat really."

Another said: " It is a shame that you've had to close the Kirrie shop, but you're right when you say you have to move with the times.
"Your family have served Kirrie well and will continue to do so I'm sure as you provided a great service to the area.
"We've had a lot of laughs there and the video shop when we were younger. Chin up and keep doing what you do."

Rangers appoint new boss Russell Martin on three-year contract
The 39-year-old former MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton boss has signed a three-year contract. He will be joined at Ibrox by assistant head coach Matt Gill and performance coach Rhys Owen. ✍️ Our new Head Coach, Russell Martin. — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 5, 2025 Martin guided Southampton to promotion to the Premier League last year but was sacked in December following one win from their first 16 games. Rangers finished last season under the caretaker management of former captain Barry Ferguson, having dismissed Philippe Clement in February. Ex-Scotland defender Martin, who had a short loan spell as a player at Rangers in 2018, is tasked with wrestling power back from the other side of Glasgow after Celtic's stranglehold on Scottish football continued with a 13th William Hill Premiership title in 14 seasons. 'From my time here, I had a taste of how special this club is, the expectation, the passion and the history,' he told the club's website. 'Now, as I return, I'm determined to bring success back, for the supporters, the players, and everyone inside this club. 'There's a lot to be done, but the goal is clear: win matches, win trophies and give Rangers fans a team that they can be proud of.' ✍️ We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as Head Coach of our men's first team on a three-year deal. Full Details ⬇️ — Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) June 5, 2025 Martin's arrival is the latest in a series of major changes at the club. An American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises secured a majority shareholding on Friday, while new sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially began work on Monday. Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart, who led the recruitment process alongside Thelwell, said: 'Our criteria for our next coach were clear: we wanted a coach who will excel in terms of how we want to play, improve our culture, develop our squad, and ultimately win matches. Russell was the standout candidate.'

Glasgow has one of the lowest household recycling rates in Scotland
Glasgow has one of the lowest household waste recycling rates in Scotland according to a report presented to members of the scrutiny committee. Only 27.2% of Glasgow's household waste is recycled, making it the third lowest rate of recycling across all Scottish councils while the average rate of recycling for Scotland is 43.5 per cent. The report also advised that the net cost of street cleaning per 1000 is £25.41 per person, with an increase of £5.75 per person since 2022 to 2023 making it the second highest figure in Scotland compared to Edinburgh. The net cost per waste disposal per premise in Glasgow sits at £125.78 which is £21.40 higher than the Scottish average figure while street cleanliness scores were lower than the national average of 92% with Glasgow scoring 86.5%. During the operational performance and delivery scrutiny committee Bailie Soryia Siddique said: 'Glasgow is performing relatively poorly on quite a few accounts including net cost of street cleaning, rate of recycling and net cost of waste disposal but there is no explanation on that. 'I just wondered if one of the officers could provide that information.' A council officer advised that it was difficult to compare Glasgow to any other local authority except Edinburgh. They said: 'A city like Glasgow has significant footfall and the city centre has a number of large scale events. He pointed out the operation of a boat to clean the Clyde represents costs that other local bodies don't have. He said: 'Over the next couple of years there will be significant investment going into this area to try and improve the cleanliness of the streets and the performance of the streets. 'That will have an increase on the overall cost of street cleansing. 'In terms of the recycling rate, recycling has stagnated for a number of years. We have seen slight improvement year on year but it has stayed at the 20% mark. 'We are going through a significant period of transformation of waste, which will bring a brand new recycling service to every house across the city.'
