Iraq protests to UN over Israel's violation of Iraqi airspace
Baghdad – Iraq filed a complaint on Friday with the United Nations Security Council over Israel's 'violation of Iraqi airspace' in a major attack on Iran, Baghdad's foreign ministry said.
'These practices constitute a flagrant violation of Iraq's sovereignty,' the ministry said, calling on 'the Security Council to assume its responsibilities' and act to 'prevent the recurrence of such violations'.
Early Friday, three missiles were found in Iraqi desert areas, one of them not yet exploded in the central Diyala province and two others in the southern province of Dhi Qar, according to two security sources.
The sources said the missiles in Dhi Qar gouged a four-metre (13-feet) deep crater in the ground.
The Iraqi government has denounced the 'military aggression' launched by Israel against Iran, describing it as 'a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of international law'.
Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the highest religious authority for millions of Shiite Muslims in Iraq and around the world, also condemned 'the crime committed by the entity occupying Palestine'.
He called on on 'the international community to pressure this aggressor and its allies to prevent the repetition of such attacks'.

Before the wave of attacks began, the United States on Wednesday announced it was reducing staffing at its Baghdad embassy, citing security reasons. Several pro-Iran groups in Iraq called on Friday to accelerate the departure of US forces from the country, with the powerful Kataeb Hezbollah warning of 'additional wars in the region.'

Missile debris falls in northern Iraq amid Israel-Iran escalation

Security sources stated that the missile remnants fell in unpopulated areas, causing no casualties or damage but prompting immediate investigations and local alarm. In Nineveh, a security official reported that fragments of a missile struck a remote area in Tal Abta subdistrict, west of Mosul. The projectile landed in Tal Ajjour village, an uninhabited zone, and was discovered by Iraqi security forces. In Saladin, another security source confirmed that parts of an unidentified missile landed on the outskirts of Tuz Khurmatu, east of the province.
