Insider Predicts Radical QB Move By Browns

Insider Predicts Radical QB Move By Browns originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns haven't had a lot of luck at the quarterback position over the past few decades. This season, they took a different approach, employing veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and rookie draft picks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Advertisement Speculation has largely been that the Browns won't take all four players to the 53-man roster come the end of August, and that one would be the odd man out. But one Browns insider thinks there's a scenario where the team keeps all four. 'I absolutely think that they will do it,' Cabot reported on 92.3 WKRK-FM, aka "The Fan." 'I think you can almost count on it at the very beginning of the season while they work through their roster decisions and then I think from there, it's just a matter of time if they decide to hang on to all four through the trade deadline on November 4th, which would give them eight games to figure out where this whole thing is going, or if they want to just continue on and keep all four of them through the end of the season." That would be an unconventional and, honestly, a radical approach to the position and the 53-man roster for sure. Advertisement However, it would give Cleveland the best opportunity to evaluate all four players in potentially in-game action to see where they all fit in, if anywhere. For general manager Andrew Berry, it could also showcase all four for a possible trade of one. Browns Shedeur Sanders Ticketed For Driving 101 MPH

Browns Shedeur Sanders Ticketed For Driving 101 MPH originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shedeur Sanders' offseason had put together an impressive offseason to this point. Despite entering a crowded quarterbacks room with the Cleveland Browns, the fifth-round rookie showed his determination to move up the ranks. Advertisement His work has come mostly with second-teamers though leaving a positive impression on his coaches nonetheless. Up until Tuesday the dialogue seemed to turn a corner. However, a reckless decision now has fans questioning his true intentions of succeeding on the professional stage. Police pulled over and ticketed Sanders for allegedly driving over 100mph, according to FOX 8 in Cleveland. The incident occurred in Strongsville, a suburb in the Cleveland area. Strongsville police records show that an officer stopped Sanders on 71 North around 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday. The report indicates Sanders was clocked at a speed of 101 mph, 41 mph over the limit. Advertisement The station reached out to the Browns who have yet to comment on the matter. Sanders can either pay the fine that comes with the citation or contest it in court. While there is no serious criminal offense here the mistake is poorly timed on Sanders part now finally removed from the hysteria of a historic draft slide. Once a potential No. 1 overall pick, Sanders plummeted down the draft board until Cleveland selected him in the fifth round. Much of slide had to do with Sanders' handling of the pre-draft process and the impression he left on prospective teams. While speeding isn't a felony crime, it does add fuel to the fiery narrative that suggested Shedeur was "arrogant" and "entitled." It's certainly not a career-ender for Sanders by any means. But for an already polarizing player, Sanders gave his team and their fans additional reason to question his prospects as a starting quarterback. Advertisement He is the one shouldered with making up ground in this quarterback competition and may have set himself back in the eyes of the coaching staff after this mistake. Browns Fourth-Round Pick Needs to Step Up in 2025

Browns Fourth-Round Pick Needs to Step Up in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For all the quarterback trouble the Cleveland Browns have seen over recent seasons, let's put at least some of the blame on the offensive line in front of them. Advertisement Last season alone, while the Browns were employing four different starters under center, the offensive line was responsible for a whopping 66 sacks. That was up from 45 sacks the season before, when Cleveland had five different starters. The Browns spent a fourth-round pick on Ohio State offensive lineman Dawand Jones in 2023, and he's failed to catch on so far across two seasons with the Browns. Pro Football Focus thinks that Jones is due for a make-or-break campaign next season. "Jones played three games at [left tackle] last year before suffering a fractured fibula that ended his season," analyst Dalton Wasserman wrote on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, he earned a subpar 44.1 PFF overall grade across those three outings. Veteran Cornelius Lucas could fill in if Jones is either injured or ineffective again, but the Browns desperately need young talent to emerge on their offensive line, and Jones is the most likely incumbent candidate." Advertisement After his rookie season, Jones was named the team's "most promising building block" heading into 2024 by Bleacher Report. He earned a 64.7 overall grade by Pro Football Focus for his efforts in his rookie season. But 2024 didn't go as planned. The former Buckeyes tackle sustained a major injury in the Browns' Week 11 loss to the Saints, but even before the injury, Jones was not playing to the standard he set in his rookie year. Pro Football Focus scored him an unimpressive 46.4 overall for the time he was on the field. The Cleveland offense was kind of a mess at that point, suffering from injuries to key players and from poor play at times. If Jones can completely recover and return to the play he displayed in 2023, he could help return the Browns' offensive line to the No. 2-ranked unit that it was in his rookie campaign.
