Food sector exports in Egypt surpass $10bn in 2024, achieving record growth
Egypt- At the 2024 General Assembly meeting of the Chamber of Food Industries, Chairperson Ashraf El Gazayerli announced that the food sector achieved a remarkable 21% increase in exports last year, surpassing $10bn.
This milestone marks an unprecedented achievement for the sector, underlining its growing influence in the global market.
Maysa Hamza, Executive Director of the Chamber, also highlighted the organization's major accomplishments for the year. She emphasized the Chamber's commitment to institutional growth, which includes refining and updating its strategy, embracing digital transformation, and automating processes to improve governance.
The Chamber's strategic objectives for 2024 include addressing challenges faced by factories, effectively voicing their concerns to local and international stakeholders, and providing valuable sector and market data to support its members. Additionally, the Chamber is focused on enhancing the competitiveness of the food sector and bolstering companies' capabilities through a range of technical and consulting services.
Hamza also reiterated the Chamber's ongoing efforts to assist companies in complying with food safety standards. In 2024, the Chamber delivered 46 training programs, conducted 85 factory visits, and organized numerous seminars and workshops in collaboration with the National Food Safety Authority. These initiatives have supported the training of 3,799 individuals across various governorates, thanks to the backing of eight donor-funded projects.
The Chamber's work in standardization is equally significant, having approved 44 new standards through the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, and actively participated in updating industry standards. Furthermore, the Chamber is contributing to the revision of the National Food Safety Authority's decree No. 4 of 2020 on food additives to align it with the latest Codex Alimentarius guidelines and European Union regulations.
On the global front, the Chamber represented Egypt's food sector in eight international missions, attending scientific conferences, research forums, specialized training programs, and international exhibitions. These missions took place in countries such as Malaysia, Russia, France, the UAE, Oman, India, and Germany, highlighting Egypt's growing presence in the global food industry.

Private sector recommendations saw a 55% adoption rate, reflecting the impact of ongoing business advocacy efforts. Additionally, four joint meetings were held with key government entities to resolve industry-specific challenges. 'Strengthening the voice of private sector stakeholders through our Business Groups and Councils remains central to enhancing Dubai's business landscape,' said Maha Al Gargawi, Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers. Emirati designers dazzle at the 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show
A captivating showcase of handcrafted gold and diamond jewellery by twenty Emirati female designers has drawn significant attention at the 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show at Expo Centre Sharjah. These exquisite pieces were displayed under the 'Emirati Goldsmiths' platform, an initiative by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) aimed at empowering local designers and connecting them with over 500 regional and international exhibitors. This year's platform welcomed new designers from across the UAE, each presenting collections inspired by the country's rich cultural heritage and natural environment. Crafted from gold and gemstones, many designs incorporated traditional 'Talli' handicrafts in innovative, modern forms, blending heritage with contemporary artistry. Among the most talked-about creations were the 'Zayed Lantern,' the 'Palm Necklace,' the 'Well' design, and the 'Emirati Dama'a,' all recognised for their originality and exceptional craftsmanship. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI and Expo Centre Sharjah, reiterated the Chamber's commitment to supporting young Emirati talents and enhancing their role in the national economy, particularly in the vibrant gold and jewellery sector. He noted that the 'Emirati Goldsmiths' platform has become a strategic hub for nurturing female designers, with around 400 members from all emirates now part of the initiative. Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, emphasised the event's status as a leading destination for the jewellery and watch industry. Tripoli Chamber of Commerce and BIAT Celebrate the Launch of the Agri-Agro 360 Project
The Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Tripoli and the North (CCIAT), in collaboration with Business Incubation Association in Tripoli (BIAT), has launched the Agri-Agro 360 Project, designed to support small and medium enterprises, startups, farmers, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, youth, and innovators in the field of agricultural technology. This ambitious initiative responds to the growing challenges facing the agriculture and agri-food sectors in a rapidly evolving world. It serves as a bridge between agricultural traditions and modern innovation, empowering agricultural entrepreneurs to grow and sustain their projects. The project aims to provide tailored technical and administrative support to agricultural and agri-food initiatives, enhance resilience and growth potential, and contribute to the development of the agricultural sector in Akkar and Northern Lebanon—ultimately making a positive impact on the Lebanese economy. The launch event was held in the grand hall of the Tripoli Chamber, in the presence of parliamentary, ministerial, diplomatic, economic, and union figures, as well as mayors, businesspeople, and a large crowd of interested attendees. The ceremony opened with the Lebanese national anthem, followed by welcoming remarks from media host Joe Farchakh. Chamber President Toufic Dabboussi then delivered a speech, stating: 'It brings me great joy to join you today to launch the Agri-Agro 360 Program, a pioneering project that reflects our shared commitment—as the Chamber of Tripoli and the North—to Lebanon and to agriculture as a vital driver of economic growth and sustainable development. He added: 'This program is more than a collaboration between two institutions—it is a synergy of vision and capabilities, of ambition and execution. Agri-Agro 360 is a fully integrated platform for nurturing innovative agricultural ideas and providing farmers, innovators, and entrepreneurs with comprehensive support—from training and development to marketing and export. We believe that the Lebanese agricultural sector needs only trust, support, and smart investment to thrive. Today, we take a concrete step toward that vision, hoping this program will be a true turning point that restores agriculture's standing and reinforces the farmer's role in building a productive and self-reliant economy.' He concluded: 'I thank the dedicated teams at the Tripoli Chamber and BIAT, and everyone who helped bring this project to life. Nasri Mouawad, Chairman of BIAT, also spoke, emphasizing the project's significance: 'As of 2023, agriculture contributes only 1.09% to Lebanon's GDP—down from 12% in 1995. Following the speeches, the Chamber's Director General Ms. Linda Sultan presented a detailed overview of the project, including its benefits and how to register for its various programs and services. Panelists included food industry expert Dr. Bachar Berrou, Ms. Nadine Khoury representing Quinta Group, Dr. Roberta Ballaa from the Agriculture Department at the University of Balamand, and Dr. Khaled Al-Omari, Director of the Quality Control Laboratories at the Tripoli Chamber. The second session, titled Success Stories and New Scientific Agricultural Approaches, featured several distinguished speakers: Dr. Antoine Daccache, founder of Agrinnovation; Engineer Charbel Abou Jaoudeh, a leading figure in olive oil production; Ms. Sarah Harb, entrepreneur and founder of Bionord; and Dr. Charbel Tawk, agricultural engineer.
