Three rustlers caught red-handed
As Eidul Azha approaches, goat thieves have become active in Rawalpindi.
A resident's quick thinking and timely call to police emergency service 15 led to the arrest of three thieves and the recovery of three goats worth over Rs0.27 million.
The incident occurred in Kohistan Colony where Nauman Naseer reported that three of his goats, tethered outside his home, were being loaded into two cars by four individuals.
He chased them and informed the police, who set up checkpoints and stopped the vehicles near PAF Chowk.
One suspect, later identified as Saifur Rehman Satti, managed to escape, while Sarfraz Khan, Amjad Mehmood, and Abdul Hanif were arrested on the spot.
The stolen goats were recovered, and the owner positively identified the suspects.
Police also recovered Rs30,000 in cash and two vehicles used in the thefts.
According to an official spokesperson, the suspects confessed to multiple thefts.
SP Rawal Division Raja Haseeb stated that all facilitators, including the absconding suspect, will be apprehended soon and presented in court with solid evidence.

Hitman killed by accomplice's 'fire'
A contract killer was killed by the alleged firing of his accomplices during a 'police encounter' near Baddrah, police said. Shah Nazar alias Abdul Rehman from Peshawar was accused of murdering two innocent citizens for Rs100,000. He was in police custody at the time he was killed. Fatah Jang police said that the arrested suspect was being taken for evidence recovery. The police team was ambushed near Baddrah, in the vicinity of Hattar, where unknown armed assailants had blocked the road with stones. In recent months, several suspects have reportedly been killed or injured in similar police encounters in Attock, with the police claiming that all of them were killed or injured by the firing of their own accomplices.

Two convicted for murder
On being proved guilty, all the seven convicts were awarded 8-year imprisonment each and a fine of 87 lakh rupees each. The embezzled money has already been recovered from the officers. According to the prosecution, accused Shakeel Anjum and Abu Bakar, along with co-accused Abdul Rehman, Ali Sher, Ubaidur Rehman, Shehzad Ali, Umar Farooq and Pathani had shot dead Naseem Bibi of Chak No.269RB over litigation on July 21, 2023. After observing evidence and witness accounts, the court handed down life imprisonment to Shakeel Anjum and Abu Bakar along with a fine of Rs200,000 each. The convicts would have to undergo an additional imprisonment of six months if they fail to pay the fine. The judge also directed both convicts to pay Rs500,000 each as compensation to the heirs of the deceased. The court acquitted five accused, while accused Abdul Rehman was declared a proclaimed offender.

Man held for alleging robbery by cops

PHOTO: PEXELS Faisalabad police have arrested a driver who falsely alleged that police personnel had robbed him of a truck load with livestock. An investigation has been launched after the authorities uncovered an insurance fraud behind the allegation. The incident occurred near Aminpur Bangla, where driver Sanaullah called Rescue 15, claiming that armed men in police uniform had hijacked his truck carrying cattle and abandoned him in a sugarcane field. SHO Shaqeeb Raza Butt grew suspicious during initial inquiries. During interrogation, Sanaullah confessed that the robbery had been staged to claim insurance money and offered Rs400,000 in bribe to the police officer to drop the case. The Sandal Bar police station SHO registered a case against the driver for making a false helpline call and attempted bribery. The Iqbal Town SP said the investigation had begun after social media posts about police's involvement in the truck robbery.
