Work to design and plan a national watersports campus in Dun Laoghaire has begun.
Contracts to begin the process of creating the new Dun Laoghaire harbour project have been signed by DLR County Council. It is intended that the project will become the hub for watersports in all of Ireland.
The National Watersports Campus will serve as the home for watersports national governing bodies, the center for marine leisure in Ireland, and a world-class event venue. According to DLRCC, the vision is for Dún Laoghaire Harbour to become a premier destination for watersports offering a wide range of facilities to the community
Cllr Jim O'Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said: 'Dún Laoghaire Harbour already has much of the infrastructure and activities required for the development of a National Watersports Campus. This project proposes integrating the existing facilities and targeting additional infrastructural investment to improve and develop additional facilities as well as a high-performance centre to support young watersports athletes to compete internationally.'
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said: 'We are thrilled to be working with the design team to bring this project to life. The National Watersports Campus Project will not only benefit the local community but also provide a world-class venue for watersports enthusiasts and athletes. We look forward to the positive impact it will have on the watersports community in the area."
The project has been awarded €852,845 funding through the Large-Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) as administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media and co-funded by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Irish Sailing and the Dún Laoghaire Harbour watersports community

More info Rap icon Snoop Dogg has unveiled his plans to launch a pop-up burger joint at Celtic Park - aiming to serve up top-notch bacon cheeseburgers to the Hoops faithful. Snoop, who's also known for his culinary skills, expressed his desire to shake up stadium food. He said: "People know that Snoop is a cook and I would love to bring a pop up burger to a sports stadium to show fans that food at stadiums can be good." And he's set his sights on Celtic Park, saying: "It's got to be Celtic Park man, I mean where else am I going to bring it." The 'Gin and Juice' rapper shared his recipe for success. He said: "The secret to a good burger is the love in the preparation. The ground beef has got to be mixed with some secret spices, then add a good quality cheese and some maple cured bacon." Snoop is confident the Celtic crowd will be impressed, saying: "The Celtic fans are gonna love it, and to make sure they are just right, Snoop is going to be serving them himself." At 53, Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jnr, has not only made waves in music but also in the food world, appearing on cooking shows with Martha Stewart and releasing his own cookbook, 'From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg's Kitchen'. EuroMillions results Ireland: Search on to find Dublin's latest winners who scooped huge prizes
The search is on to find two of Ireland's latest EuroMillions winners who just scooped huge prizes in Friday night's draw. While the eye-watering €250 million jackpot went unclaimed and now rolls over to Tuesday - becoming the largest EuroMillions jackpot in history - the pair of winners still have plenty to celebrate after matching five main numbers to win €23,054 each. The winning numbers from the draw were: 20, 21, 29, 30, 35 and Lucky Stars 2 and 12. As both winners have yet to come forward, the National Lottery is issuing a public appeal for all players to check their tickets. To help the search they have revealed that both tickets were purchased in Dublin. The first winner purchased their Quick Pick ticket on May 23 from SuperValu Ballyroan in the Rosemount Shopping Centre in Rathfarnham. The second winner purchased their Quick Pick ticket on the day of the draw from The Natter Day Today Store in Ongar Village. Irish resident released in Iraq after more than four years in custody

More info A Roscommon resident has been released by authorities in Iraq – after being locked up for more than four years, it has emerged. Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris tonight revealed that Robert Pether – who is an Australian citizen but had been living in Elphin with his Irish family – was released on bail earlier today. Mr Harris, who has been working to secure the engineer's release for several months, said his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein contacted him to tell him of the development. Construction engineer Mr Pether, 49, who is married to Desree Pether, 53, from Roscommon, has been locked up since April 2021. The father-of-three was jailed over four years ago in a €20 million contract row between his Dubai-based employer and the Central Bank of Iraq. His distraught family in Ireland revealed Mr Pether, who previously had melanoma skin cancer, has a prostate that is "three times (the) normal size" and that he also has gallstones. Mr Pether and an Egyptian colleague had been employed by a Dubai-based construction company, CME Consulting, to build a new Central Bank in Baghdad, when the contract row erupted. They are accused of stealing money from the project, which they both deny. The United Nations has slammed his jailing as "arbitrary detention." He was due to be released last January but Iraq issued new charges against them and he was facing a further 15 years in custody – until Mr Harris intervened earlier this year. He was a free man tonight - although he must remain in Iraq for the meantime. But the Tánaiste welcomed the decision to free him. He said: "This evening, I have been informed of the release on bail of Robert Pether, whose imprisonment in Iraq has been a case of great concern. "This is very welcome news in what has been a long and distressing saga for Robert's wife, three children and his wider family and friends. "Foreign Minister Hussein of Iraq, whom I spoke to last month to urge Robert's release, called me this evening with the news. I was informed that Robert has been released on bail and for the moment he remains in Iraq, but I welcomed this as a first step to his being allowed to return to his family in Roscommon." The Tánaiste also said he had been in contact with Mrs Pether over the release – and said he was grateful to Irish diplomats who had worked on the case. He said: "I also spoke this evening with Robert's wife, Desree Pether, about this positive development. "I want to thank Irish diplomatic officials based in the region for their continued work on this case. "We remain concerned about Robert's health and outstanding charges, but I am hopeful now of a positive resolution in this case."
