Why Lauri Markkanen Could Be a Dallas Mavericks Target
Lauri Markkanen, a $46 million All-Star, has been a consistent trade rumor candidate during his time with the
. Despite Utah's reluctance to move him in previous seasons, another underwhelming campaign might push them to reconsider.
As
notes in the original report: "Utah has been unwilling to involve him in serious trade talks over the past couple of years, but another season of uncompetitive basketball might have been enough to change its mind."
Potential Trade Scenarios for Markkanen
Dallas has multiple pathways to acquire the Finnish forward:
Option 1: A Package Centered Around Depth Pieces

- Mavericks Receive: Lauri Markkanen
- Jazz Receive: P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford, Caleb Martin, Jaden Hardy
While Lauri Markkanen's value is high, his hefty salary complicates trade negotiations. This deal would allow Dallas to form a dynamic frontcourt featuring Markkanen, Cooper Flagg, and Anthony Davis.
Option 2: A Kyrie Irving Swap
According to Ivan, If Dallas is concerned about Irving's torn ACL recovery, they could explore a sign-and-trade:
- Mavericks Receive: Lauri Markkanen
- Jazz Receive: Kyrie Irving (via opt-in) + filler (e.g., Brandon Williams)
This scenario would free up the
to pursue another point guard while giving Utah a veteran presence to mentor young guards Isaiah Collier and Keyonte George.
What This Means for Both Teams
Team
Pros
Cons
Mavericks
Adds a versatile scorer, strengthens frontcourt
Loses key role players or Irving's leadership
Jazz
Gains assets or a mentor for young guards
Risk of Irving walking in free agency
The Dallas Mavericks are clearly looking to retool after the Doncic trade, and Lauri Markkanen could be the perfect addition. Whether through a multi-player package or an Irving-centered deal, Dallas has options.
For Utah, the decision hinges on whether they prioritize future assets or short-term mentorship. One thing is certain—the NBA offseason is never short on surprises.

Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins booted from Puerto Rico league
Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins was suspended by a Puerto Rico basketball league and had his contract rescinded after igniting a brawl earlier this week. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional League also fined Cousins $4,250, and he could be subject to another fine of $5,570, according to the league. The incident occurred Monday when Cousins was playing on the road for the Guaynabo Mets. "As an organization, we strongly condemn any form of violence or provocation, whether on or off the field. Safety, respect, and sportsmanship are non-negotiable values for this franchise," the Mets said in a news release. The situation began with Cousins exchanging words with a fan before he grabbed his crotch while walking toward the courtside seats. Cousins then grabbed the fan's arm as things quickly escalated. Teammates attempted to pull Cousins away and other fans began to hurl insults at Cousins. After being ejected, Cousins was doused by liquids as he left the floor. Security tackled him at one point to hold him back from trying to get into the stands. Cousins, 34, was averaging 18.2 points and 9.0 rebounds while playing in the top pro basketball league in Puerto Rico for the second time. He also played in the league in 2023. Cousins hasn't played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season. He was a four-time All-Star in 11 seasons but his career was derailed by two major injuries. In January 2018, he sustained an Achilles tendon injury with the New Orleans Pelicans. After returning to play 30 games for the Golden State Warriors the next season, he tore the ACL in his left knee in August 2019 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and missed the entire season. Cousins played for seven NBA teams with the best part of his career being his 6 1/2 seasons with the Sacramento Kings from 2010-17. He finished third in Rookie of the Year balloting in 2011 after being the fifth overall pick out of Kentucky. Overall, Cousins averaged 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds in 654 games . Chicago Sky are struggling out of the gate with a new coach and revamped roster
CHICAGO — Angel Reese captured a national championship and never lost more than two games in a row during a four-year college career. She and Caitlin Clark helped lead women's basketball to new heights with a rivalry that gripped the nation. After all that winning, first at Maryland and then LSU, her rookie season with the Chicago Sky was an eye-opener. Year 2 is off to a bumpy start, too. 'I'm not really a patient person,' Reese said. 'I like to perfect things right away. That's why I'm so hard on myself. We have great coaches, we have great players.' For now, they have room to improve. The Sky are struggling with a new coach and revamped roster, and are 2-6 following a lopsided road loss to the New York Liberty on Tuesday. A season-ending knee injury to franchise career assist leader Courtney Vandersloot last weekend only added to their difficulties. The slow start comes on the heels of a 13-27 season and 10th-place finish in the WNBA. The Sky dropped 12 of their final 14 games last year, then got busy reshaping the roster. Chicago fired coach Teresa Weatherspoon after one season and hired Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh to take over for the Hall of Famer. The Sky brought in veteran leadership to help Reese and Kamilla Cardoso take their games to a different level, reuniting with Vandersloot and acquiring two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins from Washington. But in the early going, the team is having a rough time. Chicago ranks among the worst in the WNBA on offense and defense and leads the league in turnovers. The Sky have been blown out twice by Indiana, starting with a heated season opener on the road. Clark had a triple-double and sent tempers flaring by knocking Reese to the floor with a hard foul. Chicago dropped its first four games before back-to-back wins over struggling Dallas, with No. 1 overall draft pick Paige Bueckers missing the second meeting while in the concussion protocol. Just when the Sky seemed to be pointing themselves in the right direction, things took another painful turn on Saturday night. They got wiped out again by Indiana in the first WNBA game at the United Center, with a national, prime-time audience watching and Clark sidelined with a quad injury. Worse, Vandersloot tore the ACL in her right knee during the first quarter. The five-time All-Star known as 'The General' returned to Chicago after two years in New York, where she helped the Liberty capture the championship last season and earned her second ring to go with the one she got with the Sky in 2021. A little more than a week before the injury, Vandersloot broke wife Allie Quigley's franchise career records for scoring and field goals made. 'She's our engine," Marsh said. 'She's our captain, she's our leader out there. Obviously, it's a huge blow.' One of the best distributors the WNBA has seen, Vandersloot is second to Hall of Famer Sue Bird in total assists and holds the highest season and career averages in league history. The Sky figure to lean more on rookie Hailey Van Lith, the No. 11 overall pick in the draft. 'She's done as good a job as she can in terms of handling pressure,' Marsh said. 'I think she'll continue to see that. But just understanding how to command a team, how to run a team — I think she's kind of now on a fast track to that.' Van Lith said watching Vandersloot go down was 'heartbreaking' and added: 'Whatever is in store in the future for this team, I trust that we will find a way to make this moment mean something." Reese and Cardoso hold the keys. Though Reese leads the league in rebounding at 12.1 per game, she's shooting just 35.8% while averaging 10.1 points. Last year, she set a WNBA record with double-doubles in 15 straight games and finished with 26 on the season — the most ever by a rookie. She has four this year, giving her 30 in 42 games — the fewest needed to reach the mark in league history. Cardoso, the third overall pick last year, continues to show promise, including a career-high 23-point game in the first win over Dallas. But the former South Carolina star hasn't become a consistent dominant force inside. 'I think it's just continuing to instill the trust level that we have in her,' Marsh said. 'Her teammates look for her inside. They know what a force she can be down low, and our staff certainly is aware of who she can be down there as well. We want to give her looks and opportunities.' F1 is my only goal, but I know time is limited, says Kush Maini
Kush Maini (PTI Photo) MUMBAI: "There are more bad days than good days in sports," says Kush Maini. That one line from the 24-year-old aptly sums up how difficult it is to survive in the world of motorsport. But just as he was struggling to find momentum in the 2025 Formula Two season, came the victory of his life—at Monaco, late last month. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! It wasn't the first win of his F2 career. The Bengaluru lad's maiden win came at the Hungaroring last year. But winning at Monaco—becoming the first Indian ever to do so—marked a major moment of pride. Currently in his third season in the F1 feeder series, Maini knows that building on the Monaco success is crucial to landing an F1 seat. "I haven't shown the kind of performance that warrants a seat in F1. I'm fast enough, I've won races, but you need to fight for championships," said Maini, who currently sits 11th in the standings with 21 points. To put that into context, Gabriel Bortoleto—Maini's teammate last season—won the 2024 championship and is now racing in F1 with Sauber. He knows the clock is ticking as he chases an F1 seat.
