The deal was executed through a share purchase worth Rs 250 crore. Setting the stage: The investment comes at a crucial juncture for InCred, which is preparing for a potential Rs 4,000-crore initial public offering (IPO). Last week, its wealth management arm, InCred Wealth, expanded into the retail broking segment by acquiring discount broking platform Stocko. Quote, unquote: 'India's credit ecosystem is changing fast—more formal, more digital, and more accessible,' said Nikhil Kamath. 'InCred Group seems to get that. Smartphone brands shift focus to offline sales in smaller towns Smartphone brands are increasingly moving beyond metro cities, turning to offline retail channels in smaller towns to drive growth. This marks a clear departure from their earlier dependence on ecommerce platforms. Driving sales: Brands are targeting customers in tier-2 and tier-3 cities with easier access to financing, especially as demand for premium handsets picks up in these markets. At the same time, shipments to online retailers declined for the seventh consecutive month in April. Market trackers attribute this drop to online-first brands making a deliberate shift towards physical retail. Changing tack: With online platforms losing momentum, nearly all brands have scaled back volumes through online channels. Even those that built their presence on online platforms are now rebalancing their distribution strategies. Motorola brought down its online shipments to 64% in Q1 2025 from 82% a year ago. OnePlus also reduced its online share to 71%, compared to 85% in the same period. Xiaomi now garners 39% of its volumes from ecommerce, down from 45% in Q1 2024. Slow growth: Industry insiders say brands are increasingly aware that ecommerce penetration in India is plateauing. A large share of the country's smartphone market still depends on local retail stores, where in-person interactions and financing options often play a bigger role in purchasing decisions. Chart-ed: Fast fashion fuels closet overload A recent survey by Statista reveals a shopping trend in which both men and women often purchase clothes that they never especially women, frequently purchase clothing items from fast fashion brands. Among the surveyed countries, the United Kingdom ranks highest, with 29% of female and 17% of male respondents often buying clothes they never wear. India follows closely, with 25% of women and 18% of men reporting the same. Updated On Jun 23, 2025, 07:22 PM IST

Retail credit market: Growth slows to 5% despite RBI rate cut; credit health hits two-year low

India's retail credit market continued to lose momentum in the final quarter of FY2024–25, with fresh loan originations growing at just 5 per cent in March 2025, against the 12 per cent seen a year ago over the corresponding period. This slowdown comes even after the RBI cut its benchmark lending rate by 25 basis points to 6.25 per cent in February. According to TransUnion CIBIL's latest Credit Market Report, released in June, the Credit Market Indicator (CMI) dropped to 97, its lowest reading in two years. A higher CMI score signals a healthier credit market, while a lower score points to weakening conditions. 'The muted demand was more pronounced among consumers 35 years old or younger. Consequently, the share of new-to-credit (NTC) consumers that lenders supplied decreased by three percentage points during the same period, given that a large share of younger consumers constitute the NTC segment,' the report noted. The share of credit enquiries from the under-35 age group dropped to 56 per cent in the March 2025 quarter, from 58 per cent in the same period the previous year. However, there were some bright spots. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Husägare betalar näst intill inget för solpaneler Greenmatch Få offert Undo Credit card delinquencies saw consistent month-on-month declines from January to March. The report, cited by PTI, showed that besides personal loans, the value of loans grew faster than their volume, suggesting a shift towards higher-value borrowing. The rising share of large-ticket home and two-wheeler loans also reflected lenders' growing preference for credit backed by high-value assets. According to the report, home loans exceeding Rs 1 crore grew by 9 per cent year-on-year in the quarter ending March 2025, against the 7 per cent decline seen across the overall home loan segment during the same period last year. High-value two-wheeler loans above Rs 1.5 lakh recorded a 7 per cent annual growth, reversing the 1 per cent contraction seen a year earlier. Airlines halt Gulf flights as US enters Israel-Iran war; Dubai, Doha services affected: What will be its impact?

Major international airlines extended flight cancellations to the Persian Gulf, disrupting air traffic to critical hubs such as Dubai after the US struck nuclear sites in Iran and Tehran vowed to retaliate. Singapore Airlines said it would suspend service to Dubai until Wednesday night and warned more flights could be cancelled due to the severity of the situation. British Airways added cancellations to Dubai and Doha, while Air France-KLM reportedly will scrap flights to Dubai and Riyadh, reported Bloomberg. The airlines' decisions hinted at the potential for escalation of the war between Israel and Iran after US President Donald Trump joined the fight by attacking Iran's key nuclear sites. The dramatic escalation risks retaliation from Tehran, which will potentially disrupt economies that had previously been unaffected by the fallout of regional hostilities, said Bloomberg. Prior to the US strikes on Sunday, Tehran threatened to hit US bases in the Persian Gulf should Washington get involved, and close down the Strait of Hormuz, an important oil trade route. 'A widening conflict around the Strait of Hormuz could threaten to disrupt global airline traffic, particularly if flight restrictions to key transfer hubs in Qatar and the UAE were to occur,' said Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Eric Zhu and George Ferguson. Excluding local carriers, Indian airlines including IndiGo, Turkish Airlines and British Airways are among the most exposed, they wrote. Singapore Airlines has cancelled flights to Dubai from the city-state since Sunday over security concerns. British Airways diverted a Dubai-bound flight to Zurich after it reached Saudi Arabia's airspace in the early hours of Sunday. Another jet returned to Heathrow after going as far as Egypt, the news agency reported. Asian airlines have also taken steps to safeguard passengers and crews. Japan Airlines plans to have flights between Tokyo's Haneda airport and Doha avoid airspace above the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, adding about 20 minutes to journeys. Air India will progressively avoid the use of certain airspace over the Persian Gulf in the coming days, reported Bloomberg. The actions come after President Donald Trump decided to attack Iran after decades of hostility. The possibility of further disruption will depend on how forcefully Iran retaliates. Trump has threatened more attacks if Tehran doesn't capitulate. The UK is organising a chartered flight for British nationals who want to leave Israel, while Germany sent a military transport plane to extract citizens and France said it also plans repatriation flights, the news agency said.
