India secures a record-breaking 27 medals at Asian Para Badminton Championships 2025
Bangkok [Thailand], June 22 (ANI): Team India won 27 medals at the Asian Para-Badminton Championship 2025 in Thailand, marking its best-ever performance at the event. This includes four gold medals, 10 silver medals and 13 bronze medals.
India delivered a commanding performance at the Asia Para Badminton Championships 2025, held in Thailand from 17-22 June, showcasing the nation's growing dominance in para-badminton across multiple classifications. With medals in almost every category, the Indian contingent underlined both its depth and consistency at the continental level.
One of the tournament's most thrilling encounters came in the men's doubles SL3-SL4 final, where Sukant Kadam and Nitesh Kumar battled past fellow Indians Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar in a gripping three-set match that ended 21-17 11-21 21-11. The bronze in the same category also went to India, with Mohammad Arwaz Ansari and Abhijeet Sakhuja stepping onto the podium, as per a press release.
Reflecting on the tournament, Sukant Kadam said, 'It was one of those finals where you have to dig deep and trust your training. The competition is getting stronger each year, and this gold is a result of staying focused on the small things that make a difference.'
In the mixed doubles SH6 event, Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Krishna Nagar and his partner Nithya Sre gave it their all in a high-energy final against China's Lin Naili and Li Fengmei, narrowly missing the top spot and settling for silver after a 13-21, 21-19, 14-21 contest. Krishna also secured a bronze in men's singles SH6 and another in men's doubles SH6, where he partnered with Dhinagaran Pandurangan.
Krishna Nagar echoed the sentiment, adding, 'These matches test you physically and mentally. Every medal counts, but more importantly, every match prepares us for the bigger goals ahead. We'll take the positives from here and keep building.'
India's women athletes also made their mark. Nithya Sre was among the standout performers, winning silver in women's singles SH6 and another silver in women's doubles SH6 alongside Rachana Shaileshkumar Patel. In the women's doubles SL3-SU5 category, Manasi Joshi and Thulasimathi Murgesan went down fighting in the final against China, while the bronze went to the pair of Mandeep Kaur and Manisha Ramdass.
India dominated the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 event, sweeping all three medals, with Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murgesan taking gold in a clinical straight-sets win over Ruthick Raghupathi and Manasi Joshi, while Chirag Baretha and Mandeep Kaur earned bronze.
In men's singles SL4, Surya Kant Yadav earned a silver after a hard-fought final against Malaysia's Mohd Amin Burhanuddin, with Naveen Sivakumar taking bronze. Nitesh Kumar's golden run continued in men's singles SL3, where he defeated Indonesia's Muh Ai Imran in straight sets, with Umesh Vikram Kumar securing bronze.
In women's singles SL3, Mandeep Kaur took silver and Manasi Joshi added a bronze to her medal tally. Palak Kohli clinched silver in women's singles SL4, while Manisha Ramdass stood tall with gold in women's singles SU5, with teammate Thulasimathi Murgesan bagging bronze.
In the SU5 men's doubles category, Hardik Makkar and Ruthick Raghupathi secured silver, while Rajkumar and Chirag Baretha took bronze.
India also made its presence felt in the wheelchair events, with Prem Kumar Ale and Abu Hubadia winning bronze in men's doubles WH1-WH2. In the women's category, Alphia James and Pallavi Kuluvehalli secured bronze in women's doubles WH1-WH2, and Alphia added another bronze in women's singles WH2.

Pant made lot of changes to his defensive technique, says childhood coach
After an underwhelming tour to Australia marked by poor shot selection, Rishabh Pant has begun the series against England in an emphatic fashion, scoring a hundred at Leeds to showcase his extraordinary talent. Devender Sharma, one of Pant's childhood coaches alongside the late Tarak Sinha, attributed the resurgence to the work the wicketkeeper batter has put in on his defence and shot selection. During his knock, Pant also went past MS Dhoni for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket, bringing up his seventh tonne on the second day of the series opener against England. This isn't Pant's first hundred in England, for he had struck one during the team's last tour of that country. The coach attributed Pant's success in England's challenging conditions to his unique ability to 'bat with ample time' and play from a 'slightly deeper position'. 'He scored a hundred last time in England as well. He has a lot of time when he bats, which is a factor that makes him successful in England. Playing in the second line gives him a significant advantage,' he asserted. Pant struck a six off the first ball of the 100th over of India's first innings, clearing the fence off Shoaib Bashir to bring up the milestone. He completed 3,000 Test runs during his innings and has 15 fifties in 44 matches and averages nearly 44. Sharma sees Pant as an all-format player. 'I feel that Rishabh is a player who can play all three formats. He isn't in the team right now, but I believe he will come back after his IPL failure. If you're a good player, you'll perform,' he said. It was his first century since September 2024, when he scored 109 against Bangladesh at Chennai.

New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik praised the Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant for his 'bold, audacious shots' on the second day of the Leeds Test against England at Headingley on Sunday. Pant slammed 134 runs off 178 balls, which was laced with 12 boundaries and six maximums, scoring at a run-rate of above 75. Speaking about Pant in a video posted by BCCI, Karthik said, 'I enjoy watching Rishabh Pant bat because of what he brings to the table. completely unpredictable. Exhilarating shots. And when I watch him, I don't know on a given day what to expect. That is the box of his test cricket. Walking in, he could just give you anything. And I love that about him. He's willing to take on and play bold, audacious shots. He's one of my most favourite cricketers to watch when he plays test cricket. Because, on a given day, he could take on any bowler depending on what he feels like is right for the day. That is so instinctive and so pure. It's joyful to watch him bat.' On Saturday, Pant overtook former skipper Rohit Sharma, becoming the team's leading six-hitter in the history of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) history. Pant's six count in WTC has gone up to 62, overtaking Rohit's tally of 56 in 40 Tests. The 27-year-old has smashed these sixes in just 35 matches, scoring a total of 2,386 runs at an average of 41.85 with five centuries and 13 fifties in his WTC career. The leading six-hitter in ICC WTC history is England skipper Ben Stokes, who has smashed 83 sixes in 54 Tests. Pant on Saturday also surpassed MS Dhoni to register the most Test centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter and continued his good show in what are regarded as tough wickets in countries outside Asia. "Tried not to let it affect me too much": Ollie Pope on his century against India
Leeds [UK], June 23 (ANI) England batter Ollie Pope reflected on his century in the first match of the five-test series against India on Monday at Leeds. Pope said he has tried not to be affected much by it and wants to make the most of every opportunity. Pope hammered Indian bowlers to bring up a ninth century in Test cricket. The number three batter came on early at the crease (4/1) before sharing a century-plus stand alongside Ben Duckett. Pope, who was handed a life by Yashasvi Jaiswal with a dropped catch, completed his century off 125 balls. While speaking in the post-match press conference, Ollie Pope said, 'I've tried not to let it affect me too much,' I've just been trying to make sure my game's in as good a place as possible, and when I get in, I try to make sure I make the most of it. I've tried to let the outside noise do its thing and make sure my game keeps improving, and that I get my headspace in as good a place as possible, too.' 'It's a long series, and there's a lot to be done in this game still as well. It's definitely [an innings] that I really enjoyed. It was disappointing not to kick on this morning, but I'm really happy with how I went about it and played, and I'm happy with where my game's at - so hopefully, I can kick on,' Pope added. The first Test is in the balance after three days, with India's top order building on a slender first-innings lead on Sunday evening. Pope said that England's lower-order contributions were 'really important', with cameos from Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse helping them reduce the deficit to only six runs. '[A deficit of] 40 or 50, just from a mindset, might have given them a little bit more confidence, knowing that they've got that head-start, but playing the game from an even playing field felt quite important. We got those two wickets; they played nicely. KL Rahul batted really well. It's important for us to get some early breakthroughs,' he added. 'It obviously would've been nice to get maybe one or two more wickets this evening, but I think the pitch is still playing really well. It's obviously such a quick-scoring ground, with the lightning [fast] outfield. It's obviously an important session tomorrow morning, and the game is poised in a pretty nice position,' Pope said. A very entertaining day of Test cricket, mostly dominated by England, ended with India taking a 96-run lead following the final session of the first Test at Leeds on Sunday. At the end of the day's play, which was cut short due to rain, India ended at 90/2, with KL Rahul (47*) and skipper Shubman Gill (6*) unbeaten.
