Three women among four Naxalites killed in encounter with police in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat
Four Naxalites, including three women, were killed in an encounter with security forces in a forest area of Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said.
A grenade launcher, a self-loading rifle (SLR), two .315 bore rifles, other weapons and material were also recovered from the site, he said.
In a post on X, the CM said, "Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji, the state has achieved a major success in the campaign to eradicate Naxalism by March 2026." "One male and three female armed Naxalites have been killed in an encounter during a joint operation of Hawkforce, District Force and CRPF in the forests of Pachmadar and Katejhiriya," he said.

The search operation, in which a large number of police officers and jawans are engaged, is still underway, he said while congratulating the police force for eliminating the Naxalites.

Talking to PTI over the phone, Balaghat Zone Inspector General of Police Sanjay Kumar said efforts to identify the deceased Naxalites were on.
The operation against the Naxalites is still on, he said from the spot located in the Roopjhar police station limits, about 40 km by road from the district headquarters.
The operation was launched following intelligence inputs about their movement received last evening, he said.
Balaghat is a Maoist-affected district in the state and shares a border with Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

The report estimated that since 2023, China has been adding around 100 new nuclear warheads annually. By January 2025, China had completed or was nearing completion of approximately 350 new Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) silos spread across desert areas in the north and mountainous terrain in the east of the on its force structure, China could potentially match the number of ICBMs possessed by Russia or the United States by the end of the decade. However, even if China reaches the projected 1,500 warheads by 2035, it would still possess only about one-third the number of warheads currently held by Russia or the Director Dan Smith voiced concerns about the weakening of nuclear arms control and the prospects of a new nuclear arms race. "China is increasing its nuclear force steadily," Smith said, adding that the country could reach 1,000 warheads within the next seven to eight of January 2025, SIPRI estimated the total global nuclear warhead inventory at 12,241, of which about 9,614 were in military stockpiles for potential use. Around 3,912 warheads were deployed with operational missiles and aircraft, and the rest remained in central 2,100 of the deployed warheads were kept on high operational alert on ballistic missiles, most of them belonging to Russia or the United States. Anganwadis seek extension of welfare schemes to them
Anganwadi workers and Helpers staged a protest, on the call given by the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, an affiliate of the CITU, at the Gandhi statue near GVMC and placed a memorandum at the feet of the Mahatma, on Monday, demanding implementation of government welfare schemes. The other demands include: stop showing them as 'government employees' in the official record as they were only being paid a honorarium. Demanding an immediate response from the government to their demands, Union leader K. Venkata Lakshmi said that the wages of the Anganwadis were not hiked for the past six years though the prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing. She said that the Anganwadis were living a hand-to-mouth existence with their wages remaining stagnant and prices spiralling. She sought that the government should recognise the services of the Anganwadi workers and helpers and extend the benefit of welfare schemes like Thalliki Vandanam, pensions, rice cards and housing to them. Union honorary secretary Mani, honorary advisor Brundavathi, district general secretary Devi, treasurer K. Padmavathi, district leaders Sridevi, Satyavathi, Begum, Sivalakshmi, Venkatalakshmi and Durga were among those who participated.
