Fort Wainwright soldier arrested on murder charges in Fairbanks man's death

Apr. 14—A 24-year-old U.S. Army soldier was arrested Friday on murder charges after Fairbanks officers found a man with an execution-style gunshot wound in an apartment, police said.
Adayus Robertson is facing charges of first-degree murder and evidence tampering as well as violating probation for two prior open criminal cases. He had his first court appearance Sunday.
Robertson is an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Wainwright with the 11th Airborne Division.
A judge on Sunday set his bail at $2.5 million.
Police said their investigation began just before 10 a.m. Friday with a report of shots fired at an apartment on 27th Avenue. Officers found 37-year-old Fairbanks resident Joseph Casas with a gunshot wound to the head. Casas was pronounced dead at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, they said.
Robertson and Casas knew each other, police said.
Robertson was on pretrial ankle monitoring associated with a felony assault case filed last month.
A detective requested GPS tracking data that showed him at the scene of the shooting and then walking away, according to a probable cause statement filed in the murder case. Officers found Robertson with two other people at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
Robertson had a handgun magazine on him, the statement said. An officer following tracks in the snow recovered a .40 caliber Glock from a trash bin near the scene of the shooting, it said. Witnesses told police the two men were in the same room when the shot was heard.
Police learned the gun had been purchased by a relative of Robertson, according to the statement.
Robertson, interviewed by the detective, said Casas had been "bouncing around and saying a lot of crazy stuff" but then asked to speak to an attorney and declined to provide any other information about what happened Friday, the statement said.
One of the witnesses told a military criminal investigation agent that Casas "didn't deserve what happened to him," the statement said. The witness agreed when asked if the shooting was an execution, it said.
Robertson is hiring an attorney, according to a filing in the case.
He was facing prior charges of assault and escape at the time of Friday's shooting.
The felony assault charge stems from accusations Robertson pistol-whipped a woman in January, according to a criminal complaint filed in that case. He was arrested on March 19.
He paid a $10,000 cash bail in that case and was released from custody several days later, court records show.
The escape case was filed on March 27 after authorities said Robertson left house arrest on base, violating the conditions of release in the assault case.
A judge on April 1 agreed to allow Robertson to leave base, modifying the conditions of his release to remove house arrest.
Robertson, whose rank is private first class, is a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Specialist who has been with the 11th Airborne since arriving at Fort Wainwright in October 2023, according to information provided by division spokesperson Lt. Col. Leah Ganoni.
Fort Wainwright is Robertson's first and only duty station since enlisting in the Army in 2023, Ganoni said.

Major Drug Busts In Dallas: Fentanyl, Cocaine, And Firearms

Dallas police and federal agents seized nearly a kilogram of fentanyl, more than 100 grams of cocaine, and multiple illegal firearms during two major raids so far this year. The operations, which resulted from investigations into random gunfire, led to several arrests. These seizures highlight the deadly intersection of illegal drugs and modified weapons flooding Dallas neighborhoods. The presence of Glock switches — devices that convert semi-automatic pistols into machine guns — raises particular concern for law enforcement. The first operation unfolded on February 7 when Dallas Police and ATF agents executed a search warrant in the 2700 block of Lolita Drive. Officers confiscated 955.8 grams of fentanyl, 128.2 grams of cocaine, nine firearms, and three Glock switches. Juan David Hernandez, 38, was arrested and faces two felony counts of manufacturing and delivery of controlled substances. He is also charged with unlawful firearm possession and possession of prohibited weapons. Carlos Garcia, 24, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants. These included family violence, assault, and evading arrest. A second raid occurred on April 24 in the 7300 block of Charles Street following a neighborhood shooting. Officers discovered several firearms illegally modified with machine gun conversion devices. Two individuals were arrested and charged with possession of prohibited weapons. Their identities weren't immediately released. The investigations involved extensive collaboration between multiple Dallas Police units and federal agents. Southeast Investigative Unit, SWAT, ATF, Assaults Unit, and patrol divisions all played crucial roles in the operations.

2 young men charged for bringing fully loaded weapons to Pontiac high school graduation

Police charged two young men accused of bringing an AR-style pistol and a Glock semi-automatic handgun — both unregistered and fully loaded with 40-round magazines — to a high school graduation in Pontiac, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald's office announced on June 9. Jamarion Hardiman, 20, and Deahveon Whaley, 19, are each charged with carrying a firearm with unlawful intent, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and carrying a concealed weapon, McDonald's office said in a news release. More: Authorities find loaded weapons at Pontiac high school's graduation Neither suspect was a graduating student but had ongoing disputes with others in the community, authorities have said. The pair went to the graduation together on June 3 at the United Wholesale Mortgage campus, where they allegedly got into a brawl with others but did not fire any rounds. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard previously said it's likely deputies "prevented a mass shooting." "Just those two weapons without changing magazines had 80 rounds of potential firepower shooting into a graduation," Bouchard said. "You can only imagine the outcome of that." Police were initially called in on reports of the brawl. Surveillance video shows Hardiman assaulting someone inside the sports complex, and then, sometime after, Hardiman, Whaley, and others involved in the fight leaving the building, according to McDonald's office. The brawl continued in the parking lot, where Hardiman was struck by a car, "apparently without injury," the news release details. Hardiman and Whaley then went to their car to get the guns — for Whaley, a firearm to carry in his waistband, and for Hardiman, a "distinctive backpack" that held the AR-style pistol, prosecutors allege in the news release. Authorities say the pair abandoned the weapons under parked vehicles. When they exited the car, the pair is seen in surveillance footage crouching behind and between cars in the parking lot, McDonald's office said. Deputies were informed at the time of a possible shooting threat made on Snapchat. McDonald's office said on June 9 that those threats have not been verified.
