As summer heats up, the Kentucky Wildcats are poised to hone in on key areas of need within their depth chart and set the stage for an exciting 2026 recruiting class. With the official season now in full swing, Coach Mark Stoops and his team are eager to make significant strides with some of their top targets as we gear up for the much-anticipated June Grind.
One critical area that has caught the attention of elite programs across the nation is the secondary. The Wildcats aim to strengthen this position not only for immediate success but also for long-term stability. Among their priority targets is Kelsey KJ Deriso Jr., a dynamic 6-foot-1, three-star athlete from Whitewater High School in Georgia. Ranked as the No. 80 cornerback in the country and No. 85 overall prospect from Georgia, Deriso may not yet have widespread recognition, but he possesses immense potential waiting to be unleashed under the right guidance.
With 24 scholarship offers already on his plate, schools are keenly vying for his commitment—especially with rising interest from rivals like Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals. As a versatile player who has made significant contributions on both sides of the ball, Deriso's stats speak volumes: last season alone he racked up 33 tackles, 2 tackles for loss (TFLs), 2 interceptions (INTs), 2 forced fumbles, and an impressive 12 pass breakups (PBUs). The Cats are eager to enhance their slim roster for the Class of 2026; currently standing at just one commitment, Deriso's upcoming visit could serve as a crucial turning point in building momentum.
Recently, UKWildcatsWire had an opportunity to catch up with KJ ahead of his official visit to Lexington scheduled for June 13-15. Since offering him back in mid-January, Kentucky has been diligently nurturing their relationship with Deriso. As his recruitment gains traction, we asked him what he's most excited about during this visit:
I'm looking forward to seeing how Coach White and Coach Collins envision my role within their defense and how I can grow as a player in their system.
As competition intensifies around him, KJ shared what makes Kentucky stand out amidst other suitors:
What really stood out was the genuine relationship I've built through constant communication with Coach Collins and other staff members—it truly makes me feel like a priority.
Deriso's playmaking prowess is undeniable; however, he also knows exactly what he's seeking in a future program:
I want an opportunity to get early playing time along with coaching staff that can develop me into an NFL-caliber player.
With offers pouring in from various schools—including Michigan State, USF, and Louisville—KJ remains focused on finding where he fits best.
When it comes to raw potential, Deriso is the walking billboard —and for good reason! He is already such a dynamic athlete and believes his unique skill set can elevate programs like Kentucky and others vying for top talent. 'I have the ability to turn routine plays into game-changing moments with my speed and athleticism,' he asserts confidently. 'I can change the whole dynamic of the game in just one play.'
But KJ's impact extends beyond just electrifying performances on the field; he has the potential to reshape the future of Mark Stoops' program and significantly influence the trajectory of the 2026 recruiting class. Imagine what his explosive talent could mean for Kentucky's football ambitions!

Cam Heyward Has Strong Response to Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson

Cam Heyward Has Strong Response to Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There could be an unlikely rivalry brewing in the AFC. The Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers have been rivals for decades, but there's apparently some bad blood between players from each team. Advertisement Recently, second-year offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson revealed that he's eyeing his next matchup with Pro Bowl defensive lineman Cameron Heyward. "I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack-ever, in my entire life," Powers-Johnson said on a recent episode of "The Rush." "I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say." Cam Heyward sacking Aidan O' R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Heyward has been in the NFL for 14 years, and he's faced hundreds of offensive linemen. He had a chance to respond to Powers-Johnson and suggested that he beat him more than once. Advertisement "Hey man, I was close a lot of times. I just, you know, I delivered the baby at that moment," Heyward said on the "Not Just Football" podcast. "I don't remember what I said. You know, I tend to black out in those moments, but that wasn't the only time he got beat. I'm gonna be honest." Heyward is an interesting player for Powers-Johnson to start beef with. He's very likely going to be a Hall of Famer one day and is still one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. The 2025 season will be the first time since 2020 that the Raiders and Steelers don't play in the regular season, so it could be a while before Heyward and Powers-Johnson get another shot at each other. Brother of NFL star commits to Kirby Smart and Georgia football in 2026 recruiting class

Kirby Smart helped Alabama land Minkah Fitzpatrick before he went on to become a five-time Pro Bowl safety in the NFL. Now the Georgia football coach has secured a commitment from his younger brother, Justice Fitzpatrick. Advertisement The 6-foot- 1/2 , 205-pound four-star cornerback from Fort Lauderdale picked the Bulldogs over Texas, Ohio State, Florida and Miami, according to his X account on Tuesday June 3. Smart in 2018 told the recruiting story of Minkah Fitzpatrick to Alabama. Smart and then offensive line coach Mario Cristobal were higher on him than coach Nick Saban. "[Saban] didn't like Minkah at one point," Smart told "That, to me, was just crazy because Mario Cristobal and I were fighting like hell [for Fitzpatrick]. We thought he was such a good kid." Justice Fitzpatrick, who plays for St. Thomas Aquinas, is the nation's No. 47 overall prospect and No. 3 cornerback. He was a Dolphins first-round pick, but traded from Miami in 2018. He has played with the Steelers since then. Draymond Green doubts Knicks can win title without ‘great player'

The post Draymond Green doubts Knicks can win title without 'great player' appeared first on ClutchPoints. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green cast doubt on the New York Knicks' championship outlook in the aftermath of their Eastern Conference Finals exit, emphasizing the need for a true star to lead the franchise to a title. Advertisement Green addressed the Knicks' future on a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, stating bluntly that New York is still not equipped to win it all. 'As far as the Knicks going forward, I think going forward in order to win it ain't there yet,' Green said. 'I just don't foresee it. I think in order to win the Knicks need to bring in a great player. I can't talk specific names because I'm not going to give my money away for that, but if the Knicks want to compete for a championship I think they need a great player.' The comments follow the Knicks' elimination by the Indiana Pacers in six games, cutting short a postseason run that saw the franchise reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Despite making key additions last offseason — most notably Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns — New York ultimately fell short in its bid to return to the NBA Finals. Despite Jalen Brunson's playoff brilliance, Draymond Green says Knicks need a 'great player' Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Jalen Brunson once again delivered an elite postseason performance. The All-NBA guard averaged 29.4 points, seven assists and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 46.1% from the field and 35.8% from three-point range across 18 games. He played 37.8 minutes per contest and carried much of the offensive load. Advertisement Still, the absence of another top-tier shot creator or All-NBA-caliber star appeared to loom large in the series loss to Indiana. In the aftermath of the season-ending defeat, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on SportsCenter that the Knicks are conducting internal meetings this week to evaluate their path forward. 'I'm told the Knicks have internal meetings this week to really evaluate everything from their coaches to their players and just see how they move forward to continue to compete for a championship in the Eastern Conference,' Charania said. 'But if we've seen the last year and a half as any indication, for Leon Rose, the Knicks president, went out and got OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, and Karl-Anthony Towns to elevate this team. I do expect the Knicks to be aggressive to see, is there a move out there, a landmark move, potentially, that takes this team over the top, or do they just make moves around the edges for their bench?' Knicks part ways with Tom Thibodeau as pursuit of star talent like Giannis or Durant looms New York has already made a significant change, firing head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday, according to Charania. Thibodeau, hired ahead of the 2020-21 season, led the team to four playoff appearances in five years, missing only in 2021-22. Advertisement Ian Begley of SNY reported that the organization holds 'great respect for Thibodeau and what he did for [the] Knicks, but simply felt a new voice was needed.' The Knicks have been linked to potential trade pursuits of Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. As the team prepares for the 2025-26 season, Green's remarks reflect a broader belief that one more elite player may be the missing piece.
