CT man allegedly found off I-84 passed out behind wheel with white powder under nose arrested
A man was arrested off of Interstate 84 in Tolland on Sunday when troopers allegedly found him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle with white powder under his nose, state police said.
Troopers responded to the Exit 68 off-ramp off of I-84 East just after 11 a.m. on the report of a man who was unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle and stopped at a green light for several minutes, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police arrived and found a silver Jetta with its engine running in the right turn-only lane at the intersection of Route 195. Troopers were able to wake up the driver and identify him as 66-year-old Michael Tobin of Vernon. State police claimed that they saw a white powdery substance around his nostril and believed he was under the influence.
According to state police, the vehicle was turned off and the keys were removed from the ignition before Tobin attempted to shift the vehicle into drive and pressed the gas during an escape attempt. State police said he later reportedly failed field sobriety testing and was found with five bags of suspected narcotics when he was arrested.
Tobin faces charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, violation of traffic control signals, possession of a controlled substance and interfering with an officer. He was held on a $5,000 bond and was expected to appear Monday in Rockville Superior Court.

Two firefighters among three people taken to hospital following I-91 crash
Three people — including two firefighters — were injured when a driver tried passing a vehicle on Interstate 91 in Hartford on Wednesday night and struck a fire truck that was blocking an exit ramp. The collision occurred shortly before 11:50 p.m. on I-91 South at the Exit 32A-B off-ramp where the driver of a 2016 Acura TLX was in the exit lane and tried passing a 2020 Mazda CX-5 in the right lane prior to a lane closure, according to Connecticut State Police. The Acura driver was going at a 'high rate of speed' when he struck the driver side of a fire truck and then the passenger side of the Mazda, state police said. According to the Hartford Fire Department, the fire truck had responded at a single-vehicle crash. State police said fire crews were blocking the ramp. Fire officials said two firefighters were taken to a hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. They were conscious and alert and were released by the morning, according to fire officials. The driver of the Acura, a 22-year-old Davon Williams of Hartford, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hartford Hospital, state police said. No other injuries were reported. Williams was found at fault for the crash and was issued a misdemeanor summons on charges of reckless driving, driving to endanger, reckless endangerment, failure to slow down or move over for a stopped emergency vehicle and endangerment of a highway worker, according to state police. He is free on a $1,500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on July 3.

Woman allegedly caught going 95 mph on I-91 with 1-year-old in car
A woman was arrested when state troopers found that she allegedly went nearly 100 mph on Interstate 91 on Monday with a 1-year-old in the car. Troopers received multiple 911 calls just after 11 p.m. reporting that a silver Hyundai Sonata was being driven erratically on I-91 South in the area of Exit 32, according to Connecticut State Police. A trooper stopped in the shoulder near Exit 27 and spotted the Hyundai shortly thereafter. The trooper followed the vehicle and allegedly clocked its speed at 95 mph in a 65 mph zone, state police said. The driver pulled over when prompted to do so near Exit 22 in Rocky Hill and was identified as 24-year-old Nahgee Baldwin of New Haven, according to state police. Troopers during the stop noticed a 1-year-old in the rear of the vehicle. State police said they also found that Baldwin did not have a valid license, and that the Hyundai was unregistered and uninsured. Baldwin was charged with reckless driving, first-degree reckless endangerment, improper use of registration plate, risk of injury to a minor, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating without a license. She was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on June 24.
