The Vivaha Pattu Saree is made of pure silk and was created in Kanchipuram, Chennai. This place is famous for silk sarees. In 2008, this beautiful saree was sold for Rs. 39,31,627 and though the saree is made of gold and silver there is something even more special that makes this saree truly one of a kind. What makes Vivaha Pattu Saree so special?
This saree features artwork inspired by the famous Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma. The images look like machine prints at first, but they are actually handwoven by skilled artists. The saree's pallu (the end part that drapes over the shoulder) shows a scene from Varma's painting 'Galaxy of Musicians', made in 1889, which features 11 women sitting and playing musical instruments.
This mix of art, tradition, and craftsmanship is what makes the Vivaha Pattu Saree the most expensive saree in the world.
