Russia foils arson attempt against railway equipment in Far East
VLADIVOSTOK, June 2, (Xinhua): Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) in Primorye Territory has thwarted an attempt to set fire to railway equipment, the TASS news agency reported on Monday.
The FSB "prevented sabotage on a section of the Far Eastern Railway," the agency was quoted as saying. "Two 19-year-old residents of Primorye Territory, acting on instructions from Ukrainian special services and expecting monetary reward, carried out actions aimed at setting fire to railway relay cabinets in Primorye Territory," the regional FSB said.

KYIV, Ukraine, June 5, (AP): At least five people, including a one-year-old child, were killed in a Russian drone strike on the northern Ukrainian city of Pryluky overnight, regional governor Viacheslav Chaus said Thursday. At around 1:05 a.m., Shahed-type drones struck two apartment buildings in the city's Slobidskyi district, causing fires and destroying several private vehicles. "By launching attacks while people sleep in their homes, the enemy once again confirms its tactic of insidious terror,' Syniehubov wrote on Telegram.

Zelenskyy calls Russia's peace proposal an 'ultimatum'
KYIV, Ukraine, June 4, (AP): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday dismissed Russia's ceasefire proposal as "an ultimatum' and renewed his call for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to break the deadlock over the war, which has dragged on for nearly 3½ years. Both sides exchanged memorandums setting out their conditions for a ceasefire for discussion at Monday's direct peace talks between delegations in Istanbul, their second meeting in just over two weeks. Both sides have established red lines that make any quick deal unlikely. Zelenskyy said that the second round of talks in Istanbul was no different from the first meeting on May 16. Zelenskyy described the latest negotiations in Istanbul as "a political performance' and "artificial diplomacy' designed to stall for time, delay sanctions and convince the United States that Russia is engaged in dialogue. "The same ultimatums they voiced back then - now they just put them on paper ... Honestly, this document looks like spam. It's spam meant to flood us and create the impression that they're doing something,' Zelenskyy said in his first reaction to the Russian document. He added that the 2025 talks in Istanbul carry "the same content and spirit' as the fruitless negotiations held in the Turkish city in the early days of the war. The Ukrainian leader said that he sees little value in continuing talks at the current level of delegations. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov led the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul, while Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to Putin, headed the Russian team. Zelenskyy said he wants a ceasefire with Russia before a possible summit meeting with Putin, possibly also including US President Donald Trump, in an effort to remove obstacles to a peace settlement. The US has led a recent diplomatic push to stop the full-scale invasion, which began on Feb. 24, 2022. 4 suspected rebels killed in central Philippine clash
MANILA, June 4, (Xinhua): Four suspected rebels were killed in a clash with government troops in Northern Samar province in central Philippines, the Philippine military said Wednesday. In a report, the military said the four dead were part of the 30 rebels of the New People's Army (NPA) that fought with the troops in Catubig town. Troops recovered some firearms from the clash site. No soldier was wounded or killed in the fighting. NPA rebels have been fighting against government troops since 1969. Military data showed that the NPA's personnel strength has declined since its peak of around 25,000 armed members in the 1980s. Despite its dwindling fighters, the NPA continues to launch small-scale attacks in the countryside.
