Debrunner was in a field of her own throughout her race, but for a while the same could not be said for the dominant Swiss defending men's champion Marcel Hug, who found himself with an uncomfortably narrow seven-second advantage over Japanese challenger Tomoki Suzuki at the halfway point.

Forgotten Arsenal misfit finally leaves after PL rivals 'eyed legal action'

There were high hopes for Marquinhos when he arrived at Arsenal in 2022 but he has struggled to come good on his promise after a string of failed long spells in the last three years Arsenal have announced the exit of forward Marquinhos, who has joined Brazilian side Cruzeiro on a permanent deal. His exit comes three years after he angered Wolves by joining the Gunners despite agreeing a transfer to Molineux. Marquinhos arrived at the Gunners from Sao Paulo in 2022 and was seen as one of the brightest prospects in Brazil, but he has struggled to break into Mikel Arteta 's first team. He has spent the last three seasons out on loan to Norwich, Nantes, Fluminense and Cruzeiro - with the latter signing him permanently. ‌ Marquinhos only managed a total of six appearances during his time in north London, scoring just once - in a Europa League clash against Zurich, which came during his first season. ‌ The 2022-23 season would prove to be his last campaign playing for Arsenal as he struggled during a failed loan for Norwich that same season that saw him score one goal in 11 games. The following season he played seven times for Nantes without scoring. In a statement, Arsenal said: "Marquinhos has moved to Brazilian Serie A side Cruzeiro in a permanent transfer. Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Marquinhos for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future." Wolves might feel they dodged a bullet after appearing to have a move for the youngster in the bag in 2022. The Premier League club considered legal action after Arsenal found a loophole in Marquinhos' contract that allowed them to snap him up for around £3million, even though they had already secured a pre-contract deal for the player. The Molineux outfit had even lined up an immediate loan to Swiss side Grasshoppers for Marquinhos, whose Sao Paulo contract was set to expire on July 12 of that year. He was supposed to join Wolves on July 14. ‌ After missing out on the transfer, Wolves approached a legal firm in Brazil to take action against Marquinhos for breaking the deal - and they also considered taking action against Arsenal and Sao Paulo. However, it was reported that Arsenal were unaware of Wolves' agreement and signed him before the end of his contract in June. Wolves duly opted not to take legal action and the saga was brought to an end. Marquinhos is the latest player to leave Arsenal, with Jorginho also heading to Brazil to join Flamengo, while Kieran Tierney has also left on a free transfer and Nuno Tavares has moved to Lazio. With the forward now gone, boss Mikel Arteta will hope to replace him with a quality forward that can guarantee goals. The Gunners have held talks with Red Bull Leizpig's Benjamin Sesko, while Viktor Gyokeres has also been linked.

George Hirst scores and Che Adams bags hat-trick as Scotland beat Liechtenstein

Ipswich striker Hirst put Scotland three ahead in the Vaduz friendly early in the second half with a close-range finish on his fourth cap. Che Adams was on target twice in the first half after only scoring once in his previous 19 internationals and the Torino forward headed home with the last action of the game. It was a night of firsts for Scotland with Ross Doohan, Doig, Andy Irving, Connor Barron and Kieron Bowie making their debuts and Lennon Miller making an impressive first start with a hand in two goals. Ross Doohan makes his Scotland debut this evening 🧤#LIESCO — Scotland National Team (@ScotlandNT) June 9, 2025 Doohan flew in from a family holiday in Turkey after being handed his first call-up in the wake of injuries to Angus Gunn and Robby McCrorie, and Cieran Slicker's difficult debut in Friday's 3-1 defeat by Iceland. The outgoing Aberdeen goalkeeper probably had the quietest game of his career, not needing to make a save and barely touching the ball in the second half. With Scott McTominay and Kieran Tierney injured, 18-year-old Motherwell midfielder Miller and Adams came in as Steve Clarke lined up with a 4-4-2 formation. Anthony Ralston, Jack Hendry and Scott McKenna came into defence as Clarke made six changes. Scotland laboured to narrow wins over Liechtenstein in their only two previous meetings in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, but there was little doubt about the winner of this encounter from the fourth minute when Adams opened the scoring. Ché breaks the deadlock 🔓#LIESCO — Scotland National Team (@ScotlandNT) June 9, 2025 Miller's volley was blocked following a corner and the Torino striker hit the rebound into the roof of the net. Lewis Ferguson missed a decent chance before Adams doubled his tally in the 26th minute. Miller was again involved, winning possession as the home side tried to pass the ball out from the back and setting up Adams to wrong-foot the goalkeeper. John McGinn had a shot well-saved after Miller's pass inside the full-back and Doohan almost got his first taste of meaningful action when home wing-back Kenny Kindle was allowed to run a long way with the ball and get a shot away. His effort just cleared the top corner. The 1600 away fans were entertained by a Swiss-based pipe band at half-time and they were cheering again within three minutes of the restart. 💪 @GeorgeHirst45 #LIESCO — Scotland National Team (@ScotlandNT) June 9, 2025 McGinn struck the post from 20 yards before Adams flicked on Ralston's cross for Hirst to convert at the back post. Sassuolo left-back Doig and West Ham midfielder Irving were brought on for debuts just before the hour mark. Doig got down the left wing to good effect and forced a save before Hibernian striker Bowie and Rangers midfielder Barron entered the fray. Scotland continued to play in the opposition half and Adams headed home substitute Tommy Conway's near-post cross immediately before the full-time whistle.
