Cops' blunt four-word message for young Aussie couple after their car was bogged on a closed road

Daily Mail24-04-2025

A police officer didn't hold back after a young couple had to be rescued by a helicopter after becoming bogged on a remote road in Queensland.
The 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were picked up in Far North Queensland along Cape Melville Road in Cape York.
Their car was bogged in thick mud on a closed road, leaving them stranded for three days over the Easter long weekend.
Police from the helicopter found the couple had set up a tent near the ute and only had enough food and water to last a few days.
'How are you guys?' an officer asked the couple, before reminding them they shouldn't have been travelling on the closed road for safety reasons.
'The roads are closed. That's the whole point,' he said.
'You shouldn't be in this area and this is what the whole point is.'
Special Constable Adam Tickner said the pair did the right thing by staying with their vehicle but that roads in the region were closed 'for a reason'.
'It was fortunate that these people had enough food and water to last a few days, however, this is very challenging terrain, especially during the wet season,' Special Constable Tickner said in a statement.
'These roads are closed for a reason, and phone reception is limited.
'When travelling on The Cape, ensure you have a satellite phone or personal locator beacon, recovery gear, spare parts, first aid, and adequate food, water and fuel.'
Aussies online also blasted the couple's actions, with some saying they should be fined for wasting valuable resources.
'Seriously... what does 'road closed' do they not understand,' one person wrote.
'Blatant disregard for their own safety by passing the road closed sign... We'll have the cost of the recovery and rescue back thanks,' another said.
A third commented: 'Give them a huge fine, they might think twice about going around a closed sign again'.

Vile moment group of men TORTURE a defenceless kangaroo in shocking clip

Aussies have been left outraged after footage of a group of men laughing as they kicked and threw rocks at a defenceless kangaroo went viral online. The group of men were seen repeatedly antagonising the kangaroo in the shocking clip believed to have been recorded in the Northern Territory and shared to Instagram by @crossthecreekboys in May. At one point, one of the men lifted the kangaroo off the ground by its arms before slamming its head into the tow bar of a parked Nissan Patrol. In another distressing moment, one of the men kicked the back of the kangaroo's head while another stood on its tail. Aussies Against Animal Abuse has reported the video, which has been removed from Instagram, to the police and animal welfare authorities. 'We see a lot of heartbreaking videos and photos as part of our daily work, but watching these videos was beyond traumatising, it was hard not to be sickened to our stomachs,' the group captioned the video. Viewers were similarly troubled by the clip, with one woman describing the behaviour as 'disgusting,' adding the men 'need to be punished'. Animal cruelty is a criminal offence in the Northern Territory and can attract a maximum penalty of two years in prison or a fine of $37,000. It includes 'beating, abusing, torturing, injuring' and 'wounding' an animal. Aggravated animal cruelty, where the act results in the death or serious injury of an animal, can attract a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment or $92,500 fine. A Department of Agriculture and Fisheries spokesperson confirmed its Animal Welfare Branch was investigating the incident. The latest video follows several kangaroo cruelty incidents across Australia. NSW man Michael Holmes was charged with aggravated animal cruelty after allegedly tying a live kangaroo to the back of his car and driving some 400m in April. Holmes is expected to fight the charges when his case resumes in July after his lawyer entered not guilty pleas at Queanbeyan Local Court last month. Separately, a 64-year-old man pleaded guilty to four charges of aggravated cruelty relating to the killing of 71 kangaroos on his Victorian property in 2021. He was handed a $80,000 fine plus costs on Thursday after the judge found he had exceeded the conditions of his Authority to Control Wildlife.

Onlookers couldn't hide their amusement at the officers' inability to break down the front door. One chuckling onlooker teased them, taunting: "Bit Harder!" "Go on, hit it!" They then mocked the fumbling officers with a killer line: "Call yourself a police force? "There's no force in ya!" Two officers can be seen repeatedly attempting to barge down the door. Even while using a handheld ram and a hooligan bar they are unable able to enter the house. Two other visible cops can be seen standing idly by as their colleagues floundered at the house's entrance. The door does appear to have suffered some damage, as there is a significant dent is visible on its left side, as well as fractures to its top, glass window. Yet it remained upright and intact. Many seeing the social media video online were quick to mock the officers' fruitless efforts. One man commented: "They couldn't break into an Easter egg." Another said they, "Couldn't open an advent calendar door." One comment even appears onscreen at the end of the video saying: "Rumour has it they're still trying." Some people saw a darker side to the video, believing it showed a decline in British policing standards. "Police are losing respect, it's what it's come to. So sad," commented one viewer. A different TikTok user said: "It's a shame because I have respect for the police. "But currently the state of this country is a joke. In a twist, one user, claiming to be a former Method of Entry instructor, even seemed to spot why the police were having such little success. He said: "Use the other end of hooligan bar i.e. the wedge knocked into the door gap. "Then pull on the bar and the door (usually) opens."

M&S issues update on online orders six weeks after cyber-attack

M&S issues update on online orders six weeks after cyber-attack Shoppers are now able to order some of Marks & Spencer's fashion ranges online after a cyber-attack in April forced the retailer to stop online orders The retailer declared an incident on April 22 after the cyber attack Shoppers can now shop online at Marks & Spencer six weeks after it was forced to halt online orders due to a cyber attack which caused huge disruption. It first declared an incident after the cyber attack on April 22 and customers were unable to use contactless payments, gift cards or scan their loyalty card over the Easter weekend. Some M&S stores were also left with empty shelves as the chain grappled with the fallout of the attack. Online orders were paused on April 25 and were resumed on Tuesday (June 10). ‌ The retail giant said shoppers are now able to buy a selection of its best-selling fashion ranges and new products for home delivery to England, Scotland and Wales. ‌ In a statement published on social media, M&S managing director of clothing, home and beauty John Lyttle said: "More of our fashion, home and beauty products will be added every day, and we will resume deliveries to Northern Ireland and Click and Collect in the coming weeks. M&S confirmed on May 13 that some customer data was stolen in the cyber which could include names, date of birth, phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, household information and online order histories. It added that any card information taken would not be useable as it does not hold full card payment details on its systems. ‌ Chief executive Stuart Machin blamed "human error" for the attack and refused to comment on whether the retailer had paid a ransom to the hackers. It is believed that the hackers managed to gain entry through a third party who had access to its systems.
