Wales icon Gareth Bale has secured a role as a pundit for the Europa League final between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United on Wednesday.
Bale hung up his boots in 2023 following a brief spell with MLS club LAFC. His time at Real Madrid was marked by both brilliance and controversy, clinching five Champions Leagues, three La Ligas, three Club World Cups, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.

Despite enjoying great success during his nine-year spell in Madrid, Bale's efforts for Los Blancos were not always appreciated. However, on the international stage, the 35-year-old remains beloved by Wales fans after helping steer his country to three major tournaments, including the semi-finals of Euro 2016 and the nation's first World Cup since 1958.

While Welsh football fans need no reminder of Bale's talent, it was with Spurs that he first flourished as a young prospect at club level. The North London club will hold a special place in his heart, having made 237 appearances across two spells at the club, netting 71 goals and providing 53 assists.
Bale was part of the last Spurs squad to win a trophy in the 2008 League Cup final. When he attends Wednesday night's Europa League final, Bale will be hoping that the club's 17-year trophy drought will finally come to an end.
The 35-year-old will join Rio Ferdinand, Glenn Hoddle, and Paul Scholes in Bilbao for TNT Sports' coverage of the Europa League final, reports football.london. Since retiring from professional football, Bale has maintained a low profile, making selective appearances as a pundit.

Earlier this season in November 2024, he joined TNT Sports for their coverage of Liverpool's Champions League match against Real Madrid. However, his appearances have been infrequent since then, and this will mark his return to the screen.
The match is high-stakes for both Spurs and United. The two teams have had a challenging Premier League campaigns, to say the least, currently sitting 17th and 16th respectively before the final.

The victorious team will secure a spot in next season's Champions League, which could significantly influence their transfer window strategies. Fans keen to catch the final can do so free of charge in the UK on Wednesday night via the Discovery+ app.

Tottenham have won just one of their last 11 league games, prioritising their European campaign. Postecoglou's side produced impressive performances in their semi-final tie with Bodo/Glimt and have also eliminated Eintracht Frankfurt and AZ Alkmaar during the knockout rounds.

United's route to the final has been slightly more dramatic. Ruben Amorim's side were on the cusp of being knocked out by Lyon in the quarter-finals before producing an astonishing comeback at Old Trafford, scoring three times in the final six minutes of extra time.
However, they saw off Athletic Bilbao convincingly in the next round, 7-1 on aggregate, to set up a final showdown with Spurs. Bale had a knack for scoring in finals, netting six goals in total during his career.
That included one in the 2014 Champions League final and his brace against Liverpool four years later. He will hope Postecoglou's side can win the trophy, not least because his former Wales team-mates Ben Davies and Brennan Johnson are part of the Spurs squad.

Cardiff City star being eyed by 12 Championship clubs as European interest emerges

Cardiff City star being eyed by 12 Championship clubs as European interest emerges Cardiff City are facing a big turnover of players this summer Alex Robertson of Cardiff City (Image: Cardiff) Reports claim up to 12 Championship clubs are keeping tabs on Cardiff City's Alex Robertson this summer. The midfielder signed for the Bluebirds last year but his first season in south Wales unfortunately ended in relegation. Brian Barry-Murphy is the man now at the helm at Cardiff City Stadium and Robertson will know his new boss well, having worked with him during their respective times at Manchester City. ‌ Robertson has been putting in extra training in his native Australia, training with new Portsmouth signing Adrian Segecic. He was filmed on Joner Football's YouTube channel doing some drills. ‌ When asked by the host of the channel about his stint at Cardiff, Robertson said: "Good, really good." Robertson's future could be the subject of speculation though, with The News in Portsmouth stating that the former City starlet will have talks with Barry-Murphy this coming week. The News report that a dozen second-tier outfits are keen on the midfielder, with one of the three relegated sides from the Premier League included in that list. Former club Pompey are said to be in the mix, with European and MLS interest also cited. Article continues below Robertson still has three years left on his Cardiff contract. Join the Cardiff City breaking news and top stories WhatsApp community. Barry-Murphy is set to revamp the Bluebirds squad in the coming weeks, with the new man hoping to put his stamp on things after arriving from Leicester City. Michael Reindorf has already left for Newport County on loan, while Roko Simic is also edging towards the exit door in the Welsh capital. ‌ "My belief is the smaller the squad, within reason, the more it aligns to having a culture of improvement and players having a strong opportunity to play," Barry-Murphy said when asked about the summer window. "It allows the younger players the opportunity to grow and play. If we have too many players and they don't play then it's a contradiction to the way I see it. "So have a strong squad from the players who are here, then complement it with the players coming through from the academy and the younger ones. All nine out-of-contract stars will be leaving for good, while the two loan players they had last season, Will Alves and Sivert Mannsverk, have returned to their parent clubs. Four will return to the fold from their respective loan stints away - Eli King (Stevenage), Joel Colwill (Exeter City), Ryan Wintle (Millwall) and Ryotaro Tsunoda (KV Kortrijk).

Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Mbeumo CHOOSES United over Spurs, Gyokeres BOOST, Ndidi eyed as clause emerges

Red alert Liverpool claim they now rival Manchester United with one billion fans worldwide while becoming the most watched club in the Premier League. Old Trafford part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe boasted that the Red Devils were followed by that staggering global number as he launched plans to build a new £2billion stadium in March. But Anfield chairman Tom Werner has the figures to prove that his 'relentless' club not only finished top in the title race last season but also left their bitter rivals for dead in the TV viewing stakes as well. He insisted: 'We are very aware of the global power of Liverpool. The club's reach around the world is by far the strongest in the Premier League. 'We're the only Premier League club to surpass 500million views on television [by March 2025 from August last season]. 'Last season on social media we generated 1.7 billion engagements. That's not unique engagements, but it's still a huge number. 'Many Americans still don't appreciate the global power of football but over the next ten years I think the Premier League is going to be huge in the US. 'We think there could now be as many as a billion people around the world who follow Liverpool. 'There is a special connection with the fans. You feel it at the games at Anfield, when they start to sing You'll Never Walk Alone. It's deep and emotional.'

Enzo Maresca sends transfer message to Chelsea defender

Enzo Maresca has confirmed at least two clubs have registered an interest in Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong. The 19-year-old featured regularly in last season's triumphant Conference League campaign but is keen for more regular first team football. Acheampong started in Wednesday's Club World Cup win over ES Tunis and his versatility is likely to be of use to Maresca in the remainder of the tournament if Chelsea go deep into the competition. The player's long-term future, however, is less assured particularly with several high-profile European clubs monitoring his situation. When it was put to Maresca that both Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund 'liked' Acheampong the Chelsea boss did little to downplay their interest. All the good players any club like good players. 'My plan with Josh is quite clear. I think potentially he can be a top defender for this club, it's on him to also have the right timing to do the things. 'We are full of young players full of talent, even defenders. The best plan for Josh is to be with us and I'll be very happy if he is with us.' Maresca was less emphatic when it came to discussing the future of Trevoh Chalobah who spent the first part of last season on loan at Crystal Palace. More Trending An injury crisis saw Chelsea controversially recall the 25-year-old who went on to play a key part in the Blues' successful end to a turbulent campaign. He said: 'In this moment all the players that are with us I don't want to lose them, but we have said many times that when the transfer window is open many things can happen, to buy a player or to sell a player. 'Trevoh came back to us in January, if we did a Champions League spot and top four spot it's also because of Trev, he helped us a lot. 'In this moment he also plays some games for us, we are happy with him. Anything can happen but not only for Trev but all 25 players in the squad.'
