Battle Lines: ‘Trump is enthralled by Putin'
Today's episode has it all — political drama, military build-ups, and yes, Elon Musk with a chainsaw.
We kick off with Musk's big exit from his headline-hogging political role. He endorsed Trump, handed out millions to get out the vote, ran DOGE and even made time for a little on-stage lumberjacking. But now? He's out. We're playing some of his highlights.
Then we're off to Washington, where things are heating up in more serious ways. Fiona Hill, Russia expert and former Trump adviser, joins us with a rare glimpse into how Putin plays the game — and why a peaceful end to the war in Ukraine still feels a long way off.
And if that's not enough international intrigue for you, we're off to Poland, where the country's been rearming at a record pace. Why? We'll explain. Plus, Trump's making waves again — this time in Poland's crucial presidential election runoff.

Poland presidential election 2025: right-wing candidate Karol Nawrocki wins, official results show
Update: Date: 2025-06-02T04:38:20.000Z Title: Right-wing candidate Karol Nawrocki wins after close race, official results show Content: The populist-right opposition candidate Karol Nawrocki, backed by the Law and Justice party (PiS), has won Poland's presidential election, defeating his pro-European rival Rafał Trzaskowski, in a nail-bitingly close contest. Official results showed Nawrocki took 50.89% of votes in the runoff, with Trzaskowski on 49.11%. Nawrocki's victory is a major blow for the coalition government led by Donald Tusk and is expected to prolong the current political deadlock in the country as well as complicate the country's position in Europe. The results comes after a dramatic turnaround given the first exit poll published just as the polls closed had suggested a narrow win for Trzaskowski by 0.6pp, prompting him to declare victory. Nawrocki did not concede, saying he remained confident he would win when all the votes were counted. 'We will win and save Poland,' he said. 'We must win tonight.' During a bitterly fought and often bad-tempered campaign in recent weeks, the two men have offered very different visions of Poland, and the result of the race will have enormous implications for the country's political future, given the president's ability to veto government legislation.

Conservative Karol Nawrocki wins Poland's presidential election
Conservative Karol Nawrocki has won Poland's weekend presidential runoff election, according to the final vote count. Mr Nawrocki won 50.89% of the votes in a very tight race against liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, who received 49.11%. Advertisement The close race had the country on edge since a first-round two weeks earlier and through the night into Monday, revealing deep divisions in the country along the eastern flank of NATO and the European Union. An early exit poll released on Sunday evening suggested Mr Trzaskowski was headed to victory before updated polling began to reverse the picture hours later. The outcome indicates that Poland can be expected to take a more nationalist path under its new leader, who was backed by US President Donald Trump.
