Hamilton County abruptly fires lawyer who has negotiated with Bengals for 28 years
Yes, the negotiations between Hamilton County and the Bengals are going swimmingly.
They're going so well that Hamilton County has abruptly fired the lawyer who has handled talks with the local NFL and MLB teams (and other matters) for 28 years.
Via Erin Glynn of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Hamilton County Commissioner voted unanimously on Thursday to terminate Tom Gabelman and his firm, Frost Brown Todd (yes, that sounds like a very British dessert).
From the termination letter: 'The board and the prosecuting attorney agree that services provided by another law firm would be beneficial to the board in representation of the board in matters dealing with the lease agreement with the Cincinnati Bengals, Inc.'
Gabelman said the firing of him and his firm was 'completely unexpected.'
It's a major financial blown for Frost Brown Todd. In 2019, Gabelman estimated that his firms had received $21 million in fees from its work for Hamilton County over the prior two decades.
Actually, the change could help push things forward. Something has kept Hamilton County and the Bengals from reaching agreement on a new long-term lease. And while the two sides recently struck a deal for short-term renovations to Paycor Stadium, June 30 continues to hover over the relationship.
That's the team's deadline for exercising an option to extend the current lease. If the Bengals don't extend the lease, it expires after the 2025 season.

Britain morphing into ‘National Health State', says think tank
Britain is turning into a 'National Health State', a think tank has said after the Chancellor gave the NHS a major funding boost in her spending review. The health service was the big winner of Wednesday's spending review, receiving an extra £29 billion per year for day-to-day spending and more cash for capital investment. Overnight, the Resolution Foundation said Rachel Reeves's announcements had followed a recent trend that saw increases for the NHS come at the expense of other public services. Ruth Curtice, chief executive of the Resolution Foundation, said: 'Health accounted for 90% of the extra public service spending, continuing a trend that is seeing the British state morph into a National Health State, with half of public service spending set to be on health by the end of the decade.' Defence was another of Wednesday's winners, Ms Curtice said, receiving a significant increase in capital spending while other departments saw an overall £3.6 billion real-terms cut in investment. The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) made similar arguments about 'substantial' investment in the NHS and defence coming at the expense of other departments, although the think tank's director Paul Johnson warned the money may not be enough. He said: 'Aiming to get back to meeting the NHS 18-week target for hospital waiting times within this Parliament is enormously ambitious – an NHS funding settlement below the long-run average might not measure up. 'And on defence, it's entirely possible that an increase in the Nato spending target will mean that maintaining defence spending at 2.6% of GDP no longer cuts the mustard.' Ms Curtice added that low and middle-income families had also done well out of the spending review 'after two rounds of painful tax rises and welfare cuts', with the poorest fifth of families benefiting from an average of £1,700 in extra spending on schools, hospitals and the police. She warned that, without economic growth, another round of tax rises was likely to come in the autumn as the Chancellor seeks to balance the books. She said: 'The extra money in this spending review has already been accounted for in the last forecast. 'But a weaker economic outlook and the unfunded changes to winter fuel payments mean the Chancellor will likely need to look again at tax rises in the autumn.' Speaking after delivering her spending review, Ms Reeves insisted she would not have to raise taxes to cover her spending review. Frenzy as Aldi's fan favourite Special Buys week returns: 'Will sell out quickly'
Aldi's very popular 'Best of British' Special Buys range is back, and shoppers are already going wild over the range that was released on Wednesday. Snacks such as prawn cocktail and Worcestershire sauce chips (AKA crisps), and Galaxy Chocolate Blocks are set to fly off the shelves this week. Other pantry staples such as Yorkshire Tea, Worcestershire Sauce, HP sauce, Bistro Gravy, Branston Pickle and more are included in the list of available goodies this week. However, there are a few items that have caused a bit of confusion. Rachel Houraghan, an Aldi shopper who's originally from Ireland, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that other people who might be missing their favourite foods from back home should get in quick! "I think all the popular things will sell out quickly," she tells us. "I went last year and most things were sold out by the time I had gone in the first week." She explains that while some of the items are available at Coles or Woolworths, they are much more expensive, making the Aldi Special Buys great value. She adds that she's excited to introduce prawn cocktail crisps to her Aussie friends, and also keen to get some Galaxy chocolate bars, but she was least excited by the tea cakes, which she says "were the worst thing" there. As an Irish person, she also tells us, "I wish there was more Irish products as most were British. I would have loved Meanies crisps, Spice Bag seasoning, Chilli Heatwave Doritos!" Thankfully, for anyone wondering, the food all tastes the same as Rachel remembered from back home in Ireland. Many Aldi shoppers shared that they were going to "run" to their local store to get a taste of the British snacks on offer. "I didn't know and went to Aldi last night... I was in heaven," one woman wrote on TikTok. "As I Brit I have never seen cheese and pickle crisps before (but I need them!)," another said.
