Raducanu to miss Berlin Open because of back issue ahead of Wimbledon
LONDON (AP) — Emma Raducanu will miss next week's Berlin Open because of a back problem, as she tries to get ready for Wimbledon.
The 37th-ranked Raducanu has been dealing with the back issue since before the French Open last month. She took an off-court medical timeout during her quarterfinal loss at Queen's Club to Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen on Friday.

Afterward, the 22-year-old Raducanu said she needs rest.
'I'm not overly concerned that it's something serious," the 2021 U.S. Open champion said, 'but I know it's something that's very annoying and needs proper and careful management.'
Nine of the top 10 women's players are set to compete in Berlin, a grass-court event players use to prepare for Wimbledon, which starts on June 30.

PARIS (AP) — Tadej Pogačar produced a dominant display ahead of his Tour de France defense by winning the Critérium du Dauphiné for the first time. Pogačar reacted with ease to Vingegaard's attack on the final climb to Col du Mont-Cenis in a tough race that Tour contenders use to fine-tune their preparations. After winning the opening stage, outsprinting Vingegaard and Mathieu van der Poel, Pogačar went on the attack in the mountains. He took charge by winning the sixth stage on Friday, climbing to the finish line alone to beat Vingegaard by 1:01 and take an overall lead of 43 seconds over the Dane. He captured the seventh stage on Saturday in a similar fashion, beating Vingegaard by 14 seconds and extending his overall lead to 1:01. Sunday's stage was the last day of Romain Bardet's professional career. The Frenchman, who is retiring, finished second in the 2016 Tour. ___ AP sports:

Twins scratch Byron Buxton from series finale vs. Astros after being hit by pitch
HOUSTON (AP) — Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton was scratched from Sunday's lineup a day after being hit on the left elbow by a pitch. Buxton left Saturday's game against the Houston Astros with a bruised elbow after Hunter Brown's throw in the sixth inning of a 3-2 loss . Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said after the game they didn't believe the injury was serious and that Buxton was listed as day to day. Buxton — scratched about an hour before first pitch — had been scheduled to lead off and play center field in the series finale. He was replaced in center field by Harrison Bader. Rory McIlroy can't stop tossing clubs around Oakmont at the 2025 U.S. Open Oakmont Country Club has taken no shortage of victims at the 2025 U.S. Open, and being one of the top-ranked players in the world does not grant immunity from the perils of the "toughest test in golf." It's been well-documented that Rory McIlroy had a rather frustrating week at Oakmont, and he has let that frustration boil up on several occasions. It happened again Sunday, but in a hilariously cool way — he executed one of the smoothest club tosses we've ever seen. McIlroy let his wedge fly, but instead of landing on the Oakmont turf, it hit his bag and boomeranged right back to him. Seriously, how did he do this?! Truly impressive stuff from the World No. 2. Now, of course, that probably isn't what McIlroy was hoping we'd be gawking over on Sunday at the U.S. Open. He'd much rather have his performance on the golf course be the story, but 54 holes of carnage and frustration left him 10 over and well out of contention entering the final round. This isn't the first we've seen of McIlroy's anger-driven antics on the course this week, either. First, it was the textbook tomahawk club toss on Friday afternoon. Then, later that day, it was a tee marker's turn to feel his wrath. Needless to say, McIlroy can't wait to leave Oakmont. Don't take our word for it. He said it himself. Asked by the media Saturday what his goals were for the final round, he responded, "Hopefully a round in under four and a half hours and get out of here." And it isn't just the golf course that's in danger of feeling the pain from players this week, apparently, after Wyndham Clark reportedly damaged some lockers inside Oakmont's clubhouse. Deep breaths, guys!
