BBC News2 days ago

Lewis Richardson has set his sights on creating more history for Colchester as he prepares to make his professional debut on Saturday in Ipswich. The 27-year-old was the only Briton to come away from the Paris Olympics with a medal, winning bronze and becoming the first Colchester native to win an Olympic medal. He will make his professional bow against Dmitri Protkunas on the undercard of Fabio Wardley v Justis Huni."The long-term ambition is to become a world champion. I believe I am capable of doing so. My coach Dennis (Mullan) says he was Colchester's first national champ as an amateur," he told BBC Essex."I think I'm right in saying I'll be their first world champion."Richardson took his time to chose his next steps and settle on a promoter. While his fellow Olympians such as Delicious Orie have already made their professional debuts, Richardson did not sign with Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions until May.He will fight at middleweight and thinks the paid ranks will "provide me with a great opportunity to express myself but also provide an example for the youngsters".Richardson is proud of his roots and is a familiar face at League Two side Colchester United as well as having had the same local sponsor since he was 17."I took my time. I know a lot of people were asking why I was taking so long. There is method behind the madness. I wanted a solid team behind me," Richardson said."I'm very proud to come from Colchester and Essex. I come from a traditional council estate environment, but it just shows the power of sport."And the power of having good, loving people around you so you can express yourself and be the best you can be."

Ollie Watkins withdraws from England over injury fears

Ollie Watkins has withdrawn from the England squad due to a minor injury, ruling him out of the upcoming matches against Andorra and Senegal. Watkins was part of England 's training camp in Spain but will not participate in the June double-header. England is preparing for a World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona and a friendly against Senegal at the City Ground. Thomas Tuchel has cautioned that patience will be needed to break down Andorra's defence in the World Cup qualifier. Tuchel noted the difficulty of international breaks and the need to respect opponents, while also expressing a desire for England to entertain while winning.

Fans must not 'over expect' before Andorra match

Thomas Tuchel says supporters need to be patient with England and not "over expect" when they play Andorra, the 173rd-ranked team in world football, on Saturday. The World Cup qualifier at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona is just Tuchel's third game as England manager, and he will be looking to strengthen the Three Lions' position in Group K. England are currently top after beating Albania and Latvia in March, but Tuchel warned that despite the differences between the teams, it could take his side some time to break down a resolute Andorra defence. "It will be on us to get going. It is on us to keep the tempo high, it is on us to bring the energy to the pitch," he said."It is on us to bring the attacking energy to the pitch and to do this in a relentless way."The players come from a long and tiring season and then again accepting the role to be responsible for the majority of the game."It can be demanding, but at the same time it is what I feel from the group - they are happy to be here, happy to show." It is just Tuchel's second England camp and a match they are expected to win the 51-year-old referenced Andorra's match with Spain, where the European Champions were only 1-0 up at half-time and urged supporters to not get frustrated."It is also important not to over expect from us. Not to over expect in terms of that we expect a clear result, biggest chances and goals already after 10, 20 minutes and get impatient or frustrated with ourselves. It is a test of our patience," Tuchel said."When Andorra played against Spain it was 1-0 at half-time with a set-piece."It is a World Cup qualifier - you respect your opponent, you respect the quality and the defensive organisation of your opponent."Then you understand how difficult it is to break down. We expect a 5-4-1 formation which will be like 22-25 metres in front of the goal."Put this into consideration, get the energy right, get the detail right and get the energy level right in order to not get frustrated too soon."I hope that we are clear enough to the players in what we demand in details and go along with the details - and the result will hopefully follow."

Huge chart-topping singer 'becomes latest star to sign up for Celebrity Great British Bake Off' alongside Molly-Mae Hague and JoJo Siwa

One of the UK's biggest singers has reportedly joined the next series of Celebrity Bake Off. Rag 'N' Bone man, 40, who rose to fame with hits like Human and Giant, is set to swap the mic for a mixing bowl when filming kicks off later this year for the upcoming Stand Up To Cancer special. A source told The Sun: 'He's really excited about getting in the tent - he can't wait for his son to see him baking on TV! 'He's watched the show - now he's ready to impress the judges'. MailOnline has contacted representatives of Rag 'N' Bone Man for comment. Rag 'N' Bone man, who rose to fame with hits like Human and Giant, is set to swap the mic for a mixing bowl when filming kicks off later this year for the upcoming Stand Up To Cancer special The hitmaker whose real name is Rory Graham, previously revealed that Bake Off was the only reality show he would sign up for, after admitting he was actually a dab hand in the kitchen. During lockdown, the BRIT Award winner found himself falling in love with baking while spending time with his young son. Back in 2021, he shared with Sky News: 'My son enjoys cakes, like a lot of three-year-olds do. 'So we got into making all sorts of different kinds of cakes, I've kind of become quite good at baking, which is not necessarily a bad thing.' And when quizzed about taking part in Bake Off, he said he was a fan of the show and despite not liking the thought of appearing on reality shows, would make the exception. He said: 'If they want me, I'll be there. 'I don't really like the idea of reality shows, but I reckon I'd give Bake Off a go. If Big Narstie can do, I can do it.' The news comes just days after it was claimed that fashion influencer Molly-Mae Hague, comedian Babatúndé Aléshé and Dance Moms alum JoJo Siwa are also set for the iconic Bake Off tent. Molly-Mae, is set to make her come back to reality TV on the Channel 4 show for the first time since Love Island. The influencer, 26, has been placed firmly in the spotlight since her break-up last year with Tommy Fury, which was chronicled in her Prime Video documentary, Molly-Mae: Behind it All. A source told The Sun earlier this week: 'She will be a great addition to the line-up and bring a healthy helping of Love island glamour to the tent. 'Molly's now one of Britain's biggest TV stars and has seen her fame steadily grow since she first appeared on the ITV dating show back in 2019.' While JoJo is also said to be going on the show after taking Celebrity Big Brother by storm earlier this year. The Dance Moms star, 22, is said to have been scooped up by Channel 4 to film the celebrity spin-off in the midst of her huge surge in popularity in the UK. A source told The Sun: 'This is a bit of a coup for the Bake Off because Jojo is currently one of the most talked about young stars on TV right now. 'She's barely had time to catch her breath, leaving CBB last month amid huge media attention and heading straight into another huge show this month.' They added that it's a 'fantastic gig for her' because although she already has a fanbase over here, the baking show will also introduce her to a wider British audience. Comedian Babatunde Aleshe is also said to be on the star-studded line-up, after his stint on I'm A Celeb in 2022. A TV insider told The Sun: 'Babatunde is guaranteed to be hilarious and will no doubt have plenty of banter with Paul, Noel, Caroline and Alison. 'He's not known for his prowess in the kitchen so there's sure to be some panicky moments laced with the good humour he's known for. 'His energy on the Gogglebox sofa has always been pure positivity and very infectious, and bosses are hoping he'll bring that to the tent.' The celebrity special of the beloved Channel 4 baking show is set to take place later this year, with hosts noel Fielding and Alison Hammond returning, alongside judge Paul Hollywood.
