Man City believe Kevin De Bruyne's career at the top is over but he'd be the perfect fit for three Premier League clubs: THE SHARPE END

Daily Mail26-04-2025

Time for a little game of Guess Who? Kevin De Bruyne made it clear that the decision to leave in the summer was not quite as mutual as it first seemed.
'Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level, like I'm showing,' said the Belgian. 'I like to compete, that's what I feel, so I can't say I want to quit.'

'Outstanding' Reijnders is 'the perfect Man City player'

Tijjani Reijnders "is a very special talent" and "the perfect Manchester City player", says Italian football expert Mina Netherlands international is set to become City's first signing of the summer as a possible replacement for Kevin de Bruyne."He has been an outstanding midfielder this season for AC Milan," said Rzouki on BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro Leagues podcast. "He has a great talent for spotting spaces."He has said he modelled his style around Andres Iniesta as a child but, as he got older, it was Kevin de Bruyne he wanted to resemble on the pitch. "He has really worked on his football intelligence and how he reads the game, and that is why he knows how to spot spaces and exploit them. His off-the-ball running is really clever."I was shocked it was only 55m euros. To me, he is worth a lot more. He is a very special talent and one of the rare, beautiful things to watch from Milan this season."He scored in three derbies against Inter and against Real Madrid, so he always shows up in the big matches."In terms of his technical ability, he is the perfect Manchester City player."My one issue would be that he is not a physical player. He is not going to carry or press the ball, so they would still be dependent on Rodri providing that."Listen to Euro Leagues on BBC SoundsAnd listen to move from Rzouki about Reijnders on BBC Radio Manchester

Crowd deserves credit for my comeback victory, says teen

The 17-year-old was down a set and 5-3 to Kawa but battled back to record a richly deserved 4-6 7-5 6-2 victory after two hours and 24 minutes to continue her fine form on grass after previously dispatching top seed Alycia Parks on Monday. Xu was one of three British representatives in the second round and the only one to progress after Jodie Burrage and Heather Watson's exits and she profusely thanked attendees at Birmingham for their support in helping her turn the tables on Kawa. 'At the start she [Kawa] was playing well and I was missing a bit too much but I knew there wasn't much in it going into the second set,' reflected a triumphant Xu. 'When I was 5-3 down I thought 'just enjoy every moment you can, play and just be free' and I managed to turn the match around. 'This is the earliest I've ever been on the grass. I've probably had the most time on the grass out of everyone and I'm going to use that to my advantage. I'm going to play my game and I've been training great and I've shown that I can compete as well. 'It has been amazing. This club is so beautiful and the people here got me through when I was 5-3 down. There was a massive roar for every point I won and that kept my energy up.' The teenager's next opponent is France's Jessika Ponchet, who dispatched Watson 6-4 5-7 7-5, to reach the last eight. After taking a tight second set, Watson seemed set to complete her own turnaround after racking up three match points in the second set. But she was unable to convert her advantage, with Ponchet breaking at 5-5 before clinching the contest after over two and a half hours of play. A similar fate befell Burrage, who was unable to find a way past Linda Fruhvirtova after recording her late 6-3 6-4 victory over Croatia's Jana Fett yesterday. Burrage – who missed all of last year's grass court season through injury – defeated Fett 6-3 6-4 but was unable to continue her momentum against Fruhvirtova, losing out to the Czech 6-0 6-4. Elsewhere, there was British success in the women's doubles as Alicia Barrett, partnered with France's Elixane Lechemia, progressed to the semifinals following victory against Swiss Viktorija Golubic and Belgian Greet Minnen 6-3 6-4. But it wasn't to be in the men's doubles as the wildcard pairing of Jack Pinnington Jones and Lui Maxted exited in the last eight after defeat to France's Sadio Doumbia and Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner 6-3 6-3.

Jack Grealish told his Man City career is OVER with Pep Guardiola ready to sell England star for cut-price transfer fee

MANCHESTER CITY face taking a £60million hit on Jack Grealish to sell him this summer. The fallen £100m star will not be on the plane to America next week as part of Pep Guardiola's Club World Cup squad. 3 3 3 And Grealish, 29, has been told there is no way back for him - with City willing to sell the attacker for a cut-price £40m. SunSport understands plans are now in place to speed up his exit and his representatives are actively searching for a new club. Grealish is the second of Guardiola's squad being forced to leave after Kevin De Bruyne, 33, was told he could head out as a free agent at the end of the month despite the player wanting to stay. Defenders Kyle Walker, 35, and John Stones, 31, are likely to follow as Guardiola and his Etihad bosses work on bringing in new blood to bolster an ageing squad. AC Milan playmaker Tijjani Reijnders is on his way for £46.2m and City are understood to have agreed a £30m deal for Lyon ace Rayan Cherki. Rayan Ait-Nouri's £34m move from Wolves should also be finalised in time for him to fly out with City next week. Grealish still has two years left on a contract worth £300,000 a week having arrived from Aston Villa for a then-British record fee in 2021. He is unlikely to be offered such a huge wage elsewhere at his age. But Guardiola and City are anxious to make his exit as easy as possible and are working to help him find a new home. His former club Villa, Newcastle, Everton, West Ham and Italian club Napoli are all interested, with Etihad chiefs keen to free up squad space.
