Dozens banned from Carnival cruises after massive brawl breaks out while docked for customs
Twenty-four people have been banned from sailing with Carnival Cruise Lines after a massive brawl broke out among the passengers.
Phone footage of the incident posted to Facebook by an eyewitness showed a large group of people at the terminal in Galveston, Texas, shoving one another and swinging punches.
The melee, which took place over the weekend as passengers queued for customs, eventually spread past a line of safety barriers. At one point a man can be seen being pushed to the ground and pummelled by a group of assailants.
Members of the facility's security team rushed to intervene while fellow holidaymakers moved out of the way while sidestepping piles of luggage strewn across the floor.
'It went down this morning,' wrote Trelle Ray, who first shared the clip on social media.
The cruise had just returned to the United States after a week touring the western Caribbean, stopping in Mexico and Honduras, when the violence erupted.
'The incident occurred in the debarkation area under the authority of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol,' Carnival explained in a statement to local news outlet KPRC 2.
'The matter was turned over to law enforcement. We will not tolerate such behavior, and 24 people have been placed on our Do Not Sail list.'
Border patrol officials subsequently told KPRC 2 that 10 people had initially been detained but only one man was arrested: Ethan Meritt-Clark, 21, from Chicago, Illinois.
Court records reveal Meritt-Clark said he was debarking from Carnival's Jubilee ship and picking up his luggage when he noticed a group of people 'he had an issue with while on the cruise.'
He told officers he had previously met them a day earlier when they were playing basketball onboard. A fight had broken out during the game.
Meritt-Clark alleged in his affidavit that the group confronted him at the Galveston terminal and started 'hitting and stomping' him to the ground.
But the court documents state that he then 'recanted his original statement' and instead admitted to pushing an elderly man during the fracas.
Investigators subsequently spoke to the elderly man, who said he had been attempting to intervene to calm the situation and had told Merrit-Clark, 'Don't do what you're about to do'.
The 21-year-old is reportedly now facing first-degree felony charges for injury to a child, elderly individual or disabled individual and is being held on a $5,000 bond.

On-duty cop offers woman ride home, then sexually abuses her, CA officials say
A deputy accused of committing a string of sex crimes while on duty has been convicted, California prosecutors say. A jury found Michael Clark, 36, guilty of a slew of charges, including two counts of sexual battery, two counts of stalking, three counts of assault under color of authority and one count of false imprisonment, the Kern County District Attorney's Office said in a June 4 news release. 'A sworn deputy who made a promise to protect the people of Kern County instead abused that trust and used his position of power to exploit multiple victims,' District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said in the release. Clark's conviction stems from encounters with multiple women when he was 'acting in an official capacity as a deputy' with the Kern County Sheriff's Office, prosecutors said. The sheriff's office did not immediately respond to McClatchy News' request for comment on June 6. In an October 2019 Facebook post announcing Clark's arrest, deputies said he began working with the sheriff's office in April 2017 and had worked there for two and a half years, mostly recently having worked at the Rosamond Substation. Woman 'inappropriately' touched in search Clark was called to an Oildale home on Feb. 14, 2019 and spoke with a woman who gave a fake last name, prosecutors said. She was arrested, according to prosecutors. During a search, Clark is accused of 'inappropriately' touching the woman, grabbing her 'genital area and her breasts,' prosecutors said. Deputy 'continually' propositions woman About a month later, Clark responded to a Rosamond home to 'take an identity theft report,' prosecutors said. While he was inside the home, Clark asked a woman 'sexually charged questions,' prosecutors said. He returned to the home on multiple occasions and also sent her 'sexually explicit text messages,' prosecutors said. Despite her pleading with him to stop, 'he continually propositioned the woman,' prosecutors said. Clark's actions led the woman to block his phone number and to move out of Rosamond, prosecutors said. GPS data from his patrol vehicle showed he 'visited or drove by the woman's residence over 20 times in a two-month period,' prosecutors said. Deputy gropes grocery store worker during ride home In August 2019, Clark responded to a Rosamond grocery store parking lot about a fight, prosecutors said. Afterward, he visited the store and came across a female worker, prosecutors said. Clark later noticed the same woman as she was walking home after her shift and offered her a ride home, prosecutors said. The woman said she agreed to the ride 'because he was a cop,' according to prosecutors. As he drove the short distance to her home, 'Clark asked her if she wanted to exchange social media accounts to 'sext'' and also 'asked her to 'make out,'' prosecutors said. Upon arriving at her home, Clark 'leaned over to the passenger side and began kissing her,' prosecutors said. 'He then began grabbing her breasts and genital area,' prosecutors said. When the woman opened the car door in an attempt to escape, he grabbed her and didn't let her leave, prosecutors said. 'He then exposed his genitals and forced her hand onto it,' prosecutors said. Clark let the woman leave after she gave him her contact information, according to prosecutors. In the days that followed, the woman said Clark 'began messaging her on social media asking if she would meet with him,' deputies said in a Facebook post. She said Clark continued to frequent her work while he was on duty, asking if 'she wanted to hang out and/or go out for drinks,' deputies said. Another woman, who reported multiple incidents with Clark, said he once 'entered an area off limits to the public,' prosecutors said. The woman said she was napping and woke to find Clark lying beside her 'eye to eye,' and he told her 'he just wanted 'to cuddle,'' prosecutors said. On another occasion, the woman said she was leaving her car in the parking lot when 'Clark pulled in behind her in his patrol vehicle and activated his overhead lights,' prosecutors said. He 'asked her if she 'wanted to make out,'' then gave 'her his department issued Taser,' prosecutors said. 'Clark's behavior will not be tolerated and he must be held accountable for the harm he has inflicted,' Zimmer said. Now investigators says she was murdered. The suspect, Keyvonte Clark was in court Thursday and we want to warn you that the details are disturbing. The backstory Clark, 31, is accused of killing Bedford, a local mother whose last contact with her daughter was on Mother's Day of 2020 when she went missing. Bedford was 34. Prosecutors say Clark shot and killed Bedford at a home in the 12000 block of Cloverlawn Street in Detroit. He allegedly moved her body to another location, and it has not been recovered. Today the court heard testimony from Clark's former girlfriend. Prosecutor: "What do you hear him saying to Dre?" "That he was about to kill Jessica," said Clark's witness testified she thought she was pregnant with Clark's child and she and Jessica had been at Clark's home – when Clark's friend sexually assaulted her. She says she later told Clark over the phone about the sexual assault – evidently Clark blamed Jessica for allowing it to happen."I can hear him yelling, saying 'You let him come in here and rape my baby mama,'" the witness "What did you hear Jessica saying?" "She sounded confused," the witness said. "I believe I heard her say – 'What are you talking about?'"The testimony was graphic – the witness saying she didn't come forward because she was scared of Clark. The judge ordered the witness's voice be altered because there have been threats. Prosecutor: "What do you hear?" "Gunshots," she said. Prosecutor: "What do you hear Keyvonte saying?" "I hear him say that he just killed Jessica over and over," the witness said. "After I heard the gunshots on the phone I heard Dre say 'Die b---h.'"Prosecutor: "Did you ever see Jessica again? "No," she said. The witness testified Clark came and got her, drove her back to his home in Detroit – where a red couch had been removed from the living room. "It was being burned in the backyard," the witness said. Prosecutor: "What was the conversation?" "That Jessica's body was in the basement," she said. Prosecutor: "And did they talk about getting rid of the body?" "Yes," the ex-girlfriend said. The witness testifying Clark's dogs were in the basement – chewing on the body. Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' ex-assistant tells jury that music mogul kidnapped her to help ‘kill Cudi'
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' former assistant Capricorn Clark, her voice quivering, told a Manhattan jury Tuesday that the armed rap mogul kidnapped her late one night in 2011 to help him 'kill (Kid) Cudi.' Taking the stand as the 17th witness, Clark bolstered testimony from Combs' ex, Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura, and Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, about a disturbing incident in late 2011 that saw Mescudi's Hollywood Hills house burgled by Combs when he found out he'd been dating Ventura. '(Combs) came to my house with a gun and told me I had to go with him to kill Cudi,' Clark, Combs' assistant from 2004 to 2012, testified in Manhattan federal court. Clark said she was driven to Mescudi's home by a security guard with Combs, against her will, and called Ventura while he was inside, warning her that the Bad Boy Records co-founder was out for blood. The jury heard from Mescudi last week that upon hearing from Ventura, he brought her to the Sunset Marquis hotel to stay safe and then called Combs, who told him he just wanted to talk. When Mescudi got home, Combs was not there, but he discovered his house had been burgled, with Christmas gifts torn open and his dog locked in the bathroom. Under questioning by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mitzi Steiner, Clark said Tuesday that around a day later, she went to pick up Ventura from the Sunset Marquis and brought her to Combs' sprawling Los Angeles mansion, where the mogul began mercilessly beating Ventura upon their arrival. 'Puff was standing there in a robe and his underwear, and he immediately began kicking Cassie,' Clark testified. 'One-hundred percent full force, in her legs to begin with.' Asked to describe the beating in greater detail, Clark said, 'He kept kicking her. He never used his hands.' Sounding on the verge of tears as she recounted the chilling scene, Clark said she was too scared to contact the cops, as 'the mission of the day was to get (Kid) Cudi not to call the police.' ' He told me if I jumped in, he was gonna f–k me up too.' When Combs did not let up, Clark said she called Combs' security team and eventually Ventura's mother, Regina Ventura, telling her, 'He's beating the s–t out of your daughter. I'm in over my head … I can't call the police, but you can.' Jurors have already heard how weeks after the burglary, Mescudi's Porsche was blown up in his driveway in an apparent Molotov cocktail attack. Clark said she informed Combs that authorities were probing the arson and had contacted her. Earlier in her testimony, the former assistant, who started out working for Def Jam and then Death Row Records, described experiencing an extremely hostile workplace during her employment for Combs, including him aggressively shoving her when she expressed dissatisfaction with her work. After a lapse in working for Combs, which she said involved grueling and untenable hours, Clark returned as a marketing director for his Sean John clothing line in 2006. Clark said she was fired in 2012 over supposed issues related to vacation time and would work for him again in 2016 as Ventura's creative director until 2018. At one juncture, when the mogul's jewelry went missing, she said he subjected her to five days of lie detector tests on the sixth floor of an abandoned skyscraper near Times Square. When she arrived there, an unnamed bodyguard chain-smoking cigarettes threatened her. 'He said if you fail this test, they're going to throw you in the East River.' She would pass the test. After the burglary incident at Mescudi's, Clark said Combs' threats against her only increased, estimating he threatened her around 50 times between December 2011 and the following summer, usually in the presence of his longtime security guard, D-Roc, and Ventura. Combs, 55, could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted in the case. He's pleaded not guilty to a five-count indictment, including counts of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transporting individuals for prostitution. The Manhattan U.S. attorney's office alleges the rap entrepreneur, whose net worth has been estimated at close to a billion dollars, compulsively coerced women into humiliating sexual performances with male escorts for years with assistance from a network of high-ranking employees, akin to a mafia family who resorted to sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice to facilitate his desires. Prosecutors have presented extensive evidence of Combs' violent and unpredictable temper. A heavily pregnant Ventura spent four days on the stand during the first week of testimony, describing in devastating detail being trapped in a cycle of violent abuse, recovery, and humiliation during their 11-year relationship.
