Love, Loyalty And Leashes: The Unspoken Bonds of Pet Motherhood
Last Updated:
This Mother's Day, let's honour all forms of motherhood — including the kind that comes wrapped in fur, delivered with tail wags, and sealed with a lick.
Motherhood wears many faces. Some cradle babies, some chase toddlers, and others find themselves whispering to furry companions who cannot speak but somehow say everything. In an age where caregiving extends beyond traditional definitions, pet moms embody a unique, unsung form of maternal love — one that thrives on instinct, patience, and a deep emotional bond. These are women who juggle meetings and meal prep with vet visits and treat time, who rush home not for rest, but for the familiar pitter-patter of paws waiting at the door.
For Bhanwari Devi, a part-time co-director, Siyol Technologies, that journey began with resistance. 'When my sons brought Joey home four years ago, I was the least thrilled," she confesses with a laugh. 'A Retriever? In my home? I believed they had gone crazy." Having always maintained a spotless house, Bhanwari vowed never to allow a dog inside. But love, as it often does, found its way in through muddy paws and soulful eyes.
'I did not choose him. He chose me," she reflects.
Today, Joey is her constant companion. 'I can't eat without him beside me. When he's in the next room, I feel something is missing." The thought of leashing him feels unnatural. 'It's like binding my own child," she says. 'So, I talk to him instead. He listens better than my sons!"
This emotional intimacy between pets and their human caregivers is rooted in real psychology. Nandita Sikka, Senior Psychologist, Heal Your Paws (HYP), explains that pet parenting activates the same parts of the brain responsible for maternal empathy and bonding.
That comfort came like a quiet miracle for Ridhima Sinngh, Legal Director at Galaxy Impex, Hong Kong. She wasn't looking to adopt a pet. And yet, one day, Chanelle — a tiny, gentle soul — arrived and transformed her life in a matter of days.
'The first time I held her, she didn't want to let me go," shares Ridhima.
She believes Chanelle chose her in the most cosmic way. 'She's my little angel — a guardian sent by God." In her presence, Ridhima feels safer, more in tune with herself. 'She's showing me how to stop fearing who I want to become. Chanelle is the light of my life, the most unexpected and beautiful gift."
For some, the journey into pet motherhood starts with uncertainty — and ends in complete surrender. Saloni Sood Mehra, founder, Brand Talkeez, never imagined herself as a pet parent. That changed the moment her eldest daughter brought Pluto home.
'I never thought I would fall so hard for a dog," she says, smiling. 'But when I looked into Pluto's eyes, I was hooked. There was so much innocence and trust."
Since then, Pluto has become a core part of the family. He joins them on vacations, sits in on work calls, and fills their home with boundless energy. 'Pluto Mehra has brought a kind of joy and vitality into our lives that I didn't know we were missing."
These stories — of skepticism turned to surrender, of emotional healing, of soulful bonds — are testaments to the powerful, often overlooked role pet moms play. They may not change diapers or pack school lunches, but they wake up for early walks, soothe fears during thunderstorms, and build lives around beings who give only love in return.
In every paw print on freshly mopped floors, in every wet-nosed nudge at the end of a long day, lies the quiet assurance that love is present. These women, these pet moms, remind us that motherhood isn't defined by biology — it's defined by care, connection, and the courage to love wholeheartedly.
This Mother's Day, let's honour all forms of motherhood — including the kind that comes wrapped in fur, delivered with tail wags, and sealed with a lick.

Horoscope Today 12 June, 2025: Libra, Sagittarius and other sun signs
Horoscope Today 12 June, 2025: The recent Venus-Pluto pattern is one of the most powerful in the world of myth and legend. It relates to the idea of the timeless love affair which passes through tragedy but then endures forever. And on an everyday level it encourages all people who are driven by raw passion! It's a pleasant social day, but the new element introduced into your chart today talks about work. In fact, talking is just what you should be doing now, so learn your lines: you should be word perfect! The last thing you want to do is leave somebody in the dark. It's a businesslike day, so don't waste your time. Mercury is now your most helpful planet, and that's an excellent indication for those who have been having difficulties with children. But, then again, it's also a useful moment for everyone who is young at heart. The important celestial events this week occur one at a time, so you should be able to cope! Today's significant planets bring the chance for improvements in family relationships and domestic conditions. But they could also bring rising costs in their wake! A very important financial phase is now coming to an end – almost. One last factor remains in play, encouraging you to forge personal connections. Also, a romantic offer may now be back on the table. Should you accept? Well, perhaps – but keep an escape route open. You're approaching a prosperous and playful phase, and that should be some consolation for the pressure you've been under. Better still, an emotional wound will soon be healed – and not before time, you might say. An employer needs special treatment, by the way, perhaps with a little well-timed flattery. Your current planetary alignments are fortunate, yet they do require a great deal of common sense. Stick to tried and trusted methods, Virgo. In the meantime, let a partner take the strain, for that's the price of responsibility. Also, it could do them good to learn a valuable lesson. You might think you're almost at journey's end, but there's still some way to go. Over the coming months you will begin to discover just what is making a partner tick. What you find out will benefit your work, family relationships and romantic hopes. You couldn't want more than that! What you do is much more important than what happens to you. Only when you are absolutely sure of who you are and where you're going will your social life improve. The happy news is that this welcome state of affairs is now only around the corner. Can you wait? Well, you might have to! Discretion is essential. The problem is that if you tell people things they're not ready to hear, you may create one or two misunderstandings. A financial matter will be postponed until next week, but that doesn't mean that you can't get on and prepare your ground now. You have really done rather well, and I think you deserve some recognition for this. Over the coming weeks you will be able to dust down old ambitions and add new successes to existing achievements. Partners will admire your persistence and – at last – back you to the hilt. You'll start thinking about what you can do to increase your earnings. There's no requirement to do anything, now, so take just as long as you need to consider the issues. A favourite relation needs your backing, by the way, but you have to be fair and even-handed. If you can think back to the changes which took place in recent months, you are now about to experience more of the same. The time-span is large, taking you over the next few months, so don't hurry. On the other hand, keep a sharp eye on passing professional opportunities. Peter Vidal was a distinguished astrologer whose horoscopes have been a staple of The Indian Express for decades. His mother, Donna Kelce, enjoyed a heartfelt and unforgettable evening on Saturday as the Akron RubberDucks—an MiLB team based in her Ohio hometown—honored her with her very own bobblehead night at Canal Park. Donna Kelce's big night celebrates hometown pride and maternal fame The event, centered around Donna's growing popularity as the NFL's most beloved football mom, included the distribution of exclusive bobbleheads designed in her likeness. Fans lined up to get their hands on the collectible, which quickly made waves across social media. Donna, 72, has become somewhat of a celebrity herself thanks to her two sons, Travis and Jason Kelce, both of whom have carved out iconic NFL careers. But her recent public visibility has been boosted by her warm relationship with Travis' girlfriend, global pop icon Taylor Swift . Her music played during game breaks, and post-game fireworks were reportedly choreographed with a Swift-style flair.
