The 11 most expensive-looking pieces in the supermarkets this week - including £15 F&F jeans that look so chic

While there's no better place for outfit inspiration than the Instagram app, the reality is that most of the fashion influencers we follow have a wardrobe few of us can afford. Shirt dresses from Simkhai, suede bags from Liffner and raffia sandals from Aquazzura; our feeds are a parade of high-end brands. But looking like our most polished selves doesn't have to come with a designer price tag.
As editors it's our job to scour the high street for the sort of pieces that look far more expensive than their price tag. (And there's no bigger reward than being able to reply, 'Oh, no, this dress is actually from M&S ' when someone asks whether it's from Reformation.) But can we let you in on another secret? Some of the best basics to elevate your wardrobe can be found in the same place you're doing your weekly food shop: supermarkets.
Our advice? Stroll (or scroll) past the 'on-trend' pieces and look for versatile wardrobe staples that you'll want to wear for years to come. Avoid synthetics such as polyester, as well as overpowering colours and prints. Instead, opt for clean lines (a timeless design will always look more designer), premium fabrics (think: cottons, linens and viscose), neutral colours (whites, beiges, blues and blacks) or rich tones (deep browns, yellows and reds).
Below, we've rounded the most expensive-looking supermarket buys you can pick up in-store or online right now, from a co-ord from Tu at Sainsbury's and a midi dress from F&F at Tesco to barrel jeans from George at Asda. And the best part? Nothing costs more than £40.

How dare Meghan lecture the royals on ‘truth'? Her whole brand is built on ‘LIES', expert says

MEGHAN Markle should not lecture the royals on "truth" as her whole brand is built on "lies", an expert has blasted. The Duchess of Sussex recently appeared on her podcast alongside friend Emma Grede, CEO of Good American, where she seemed to take several digs at the Royal Family. 5 5 5 Royal author and broadcaster Hugo Vickers and news commentator Samara Gill spoke to our royal editor Matt Wilkinson this week about Meghan's comments. On The Sun's Royal exclusive show, Matt noted how he was stunned at Meghan's latest podcast interview where she asked people to "tell the truth about her". Samara said: "The fact is she is a constant liar and her whole brand is built on a spin of lies." "I don't trust a word that woman says. I think it is very, very low for her to insinuate that we should listen to her truth or that the royal family should tell the truth. "The lack of authenticity in that interview is palpable." Samara added that perhaps the "revolving door of staff" the Sussexes have employed may shed more light on "truth". have joined a long list of people who over the years no longer wish to associate with the mum-of-two. Samara also referenced bullying allegations levelled at her from staff during her time at Kensington Palace. The royal expert added: "I don't want to listen to this woman about truth. "The fact of the matter is that she is a constant liar." On the podcast, Meghan revealed that she wanted people to "tell the truth" about her, when asked "if you you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything you would do differently?" The Duchess went on to share advice that she had received from Serana Williams regarding how she was viewed in the public after falling love with Prince Harry. Why Harry will not be happy after hypocrite Meghan published intimate moments online, expert reveals "My dear friend Serena, she told me years ago: 'A lie can't live forever,'" said Meghan. But Hugo, agreed with Samara on the issue and questioned how accurate Meghan's accusatory comments actually were. He said: "I think Samara and I, as well as others, do tell the truth about her and I don't think she likes it very much." The royal expert added: "No one would actually listen to Meghan Markle if it wasn't for the fact she married Prince Harry. "It's because she's married to Harry it gives the soap opera quality that seems to appeal to everyone. "Otherwise would not really care about her, a lot of other people are doing stuff similar to her on social media anyway." It comes after the Duchess broke her silence on her cringey twerking video after it sparked wild conspiracy theories. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, posted the footage earlier this month showing her and Prince Harry dancing in a hospital room as she tried to induce daughter Lilibet's birth in 2021. But conspiracy theorists bizarrely claimed that Meghan's bump was not real, suggesting she was wearing a prosthetic pregnant belly in the clip. Now, almost a fortnight after sharing the 80-second video with her three million followers on Instagram, the ex-Suits actress has defended her decision to post the personal footage. 5 5

Love Island fans slam Shakira for leading Ben on after cruel comment gives away true feelings

LOVE Island fans have slammed Shakira for 'leading Ben on' after her cruel comment gave her true feelings away. Tonight, new bombshell Harrison Solomon made his decision and picked Toni to stay in the villa, sending Malisha home as a result. 6 6 6 6 And since his villa arrival the footballer has been getting to know the ladies, including Shakira, who is coupled up with Ben. Chatting by the firepit, Shakira implied that her conversations with Ben weren't mentally stimulating enough for her. She told Harrison: 'I don't think he's someone I'd go for on the outside world. 'When I speak to him, we get on well. But on a deeper level, I'm not sure.' Harrison interjected to ask the brunette beauty if she and Ben have 'deeper chats.' Shakira replied: 'No, well we've had a few. I like conversations that stimulate me and I'm quite a smart girl, do you know what I mean?' Shakira also said there's a neon light saying trouble above Ben's head. Since their firepit chat, fans have taken to X to say Shakira is 'leading Ben on.' One person penned: 'Shakira hates Ben so bad,' and a second wrote: 'Shakira is definitely leading Ben on.' A third wrote: 'Shakira so why you kissing him and leading him on?' Others have claimed that Shakira has called Ben 'dumb,' as one wrote: 'Shakira basically called Ben dumb.' A second penned: 'No way shakira just called ben thick by saying her conversations with ben aren't stimulating to her brain… please.' Another said: 'Bens not stimulating enough for shakira.' It comes as the first week in the villa wound down, and Maya Jama returned for spin-off show Aftersun, where she grilled Shakira's mum and sister about what she's been up to in the villa. Both didn't think too highly about her current match, Ben, who she coupled up with in the latest ceremony, but her mum couldn't hide her dislike of Harry – who was seen jumping out of bed with Shakira for a night in the Hideaway with air hostess Helena. While some fans believed he did it in order to get one up on Shakira, who had shared a snog with Blu earlier that night in the Hideaway before confessing, her mum was not pleased with Harry's antics. So when Maya asked if she thought Harry and Shakira were a good match, her mum didn't hesitate to say no. "Absolutely not," she declared. "I didn't sleep. I, actually, when she ended up back with Ben, that was the best night's sleep I've had in a few days. I prefer him." But Shakira's sister wasn't so convinced about Ben, having previously told Maya: "I'm not a fan, but I feel like they do match each other's break a bit. "I feel like she likes the chase, and because he was, like, so weird with her at the beginning, she kind of liked it and it roped her in a bit." However, her mum was more warm towards Ben, saying: "There must be potential there for it to be that interested." 6 6
