NEW DELHI: Former India spinner
Harbhajan Singh
has backed Australia to retain the World Test Championship (WTC) title in the upcoming final against South Africa at Lord's, citing their superior familiarity with English conditions as a key factor.

, Australia are aiming to become the first team to win the WTC title twice, having secured the mace in 2023 by defeating India at The Oval in the tournament's second edition.

In contrast, South Africa, captained by Temba Bavuma, are set to play their maiden WTC final. The Proteas topped the standings after winning seven of their last eight matches. While this is their first appearance in a red-ball ICC final, they have consistently featured in recent ICC knockout events.
'Australia will come prepared. They've played a lot of cricket in England - Ashes, the last WTC Final - and that experience will count. They understand these conditions better than South Africa. Plus, they're a champion side. The difference lies in how you handle pressure during big matches, and Aussies are masters at that. That's why they've won more trophies than anyone else,' Harbhajan said on JioHotstar and Star Sports network.

Tilak Varma rises to third in ICC T20I batting rankings; Rashid moves to second among bowlers
India's Tilak Varma climbed one spot to third in the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings, while spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi held on to the third and seventh positions respectively in the latest bowling chart released on Wednesday. Tilak now has 804 rating points, behind compatriot Abhishek Sharma, who is placed second. Australia's Travis Head continues to lead the batting chart while Suryakumar Yadav, who slipped one place to sixth, is the only other Indian in the top 10. In the bowling rankings, besides Chakaravarthy (706) and Bishnoi (674), left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is also in the top 10 with 653 points. Tilak Varma set to play for Hampshire in County Championship
Left-handed batter Tilak Varma is set to represent Hampshire in the County Championship after being approached by the English club, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) said on Wednesday. The 22-year-old, who hails from Hyderabad and represents Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, has featured in 25 T20Is and four ODIs for India, scoring 749 and 68 runs respectively. "The Hyderabad Cricket Association is happy to inform that Hyderabad International player Mr. N Thakur Tilak Varma has been approached by the team Hampshire County to play in the UK County Championship League," HCA said in a release. "The Hyderabad Cricket Association wishes him a great stint with Hampshire County." Varma also has played 18 First-Class games, making 1,204 runs with a highest score of 121 at an average 50.16. He has five hundreds and four fifties.
