Nissan Shows Off Their Retro-Styled Frontier Pro Plug-In Hybrid Pickup in Shanghai

Yahoo27-04-2025

Nissan has just shown off their all-new, plug-in hybrid-powered Frontier Pro at Auto Shanghai 2025, donning retro throwback styling that's reminiscent of the Nissan D21 "Hardbody" pickup truck from the 1980s and '90s. Nissan hasn't confirmed if this truck, or any similarly equipped and styled variant, will be built or sold within North America, but the automaker has confirmed that it plans on exporting it internationally after it goes on sale in China later this year. This fresh new pickup truck is huge news for Nissan, regardless, and offers a glimpse at how Nissan plans on turning around their brand worldwide.
Powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a high-output electric motor mounted upon its transmission, the all-new Nissan Frontier Pro is the brand's first-ever plug-in hybrid vehicle. According to Nissan, this powertrain will produce a combined output of about 400 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque–massive figures for a midsize pickup truck with an engine that features a smaller displacement than a standard bottle of Coca-Cola. Equipped with this plug-in hybrid beating heart, the all-new Nissan Frontier Pro could directly compete with the upcoming, Volkswagen-owned Scout Terra plug-in hybrid pickup and perhaps the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, despite its significant difference in size.
Despite the Frontier Pro's efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is said to be able to deliver up to about 84 miles of fully-electric range on a full battery charge, off-road capability is still a major focus for the midsize pickup. Mechanical features such as a 5-link rear suspension, Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, and an available electromechanical rear differential lock will ensure that the all-new Frontier doesn't compromise its hardcore off-road pedigree in return for a more comfortable city driving experience.
Perhaps the most notable insight that comes from Nissan's all-new Frontier Pro pickup, even if it only debuted for the Chinese market so far, is that it's solid proof of the automaker putting in some serious effort to turn its brand around and modernize its aging product lineup. Offering a plug-in hybrid powertrain is a major step in the right direction for Nissan, and if a product similar to what we've seen here with the Frontier Pro ever makes it to the North American market, we're sure it'll be a big hit with buyers. Although nothing has been officially confirmed yet about which other markets will receive the Frontier Pro, Nissan plans a future announcement that should provide answers to this question.
The transparency of Nissan's effort to modernize its products extends into the Frontier Pro's interior, as well. With clean, fresh design and a blend of large, crisp display screens with actual physical buttons, the Frontier Pro's interior reflects a connected understanding of what modern buyers really want in their vehicle cabins. The Frontier Pro's cockpit retains the rugged simplicity of its predecessors while infusing the space with much-needed modernism and up-to-date controls and displays.
For now, we North American buyers will just have to wait and see if Nissan will ever offer us its superbly modern and striking-looking plug-in hybrid Frontier Pro midsize pickup truck. Its existence can at least be seen as a sign of better things to come from Nissan in the future as the brand attempts a last-ditch effort to save itself from impending bankruptcy.

Jim Cramer on Keurig Dr Pepper: 'I Don't Want to Touch That One'

Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. (NASDAQ:KDP) is one of the 12 stocks on Jim Cramer's radar recently. A caller asked if the company would be able to compete with Coca-Cola long term despite its 'high debt'. In response, Cramer said: 'Yeah, no, I don't want to touch that one. I think if you want to be in that space, you want to be in Coca-Cola. I think Coca-Cola has demonstrated, first of all, I don't want to be in that space because there's just… the Secretary of Health and Human Services is against it. The GLP-1s, the new one from Amgen, just makes it tougher and tougher. You don't want to be in the space…' A conveyor belt filled with assorted K-Cup pods, ready for packaging. Keurig Dr Pepper (NASDAQ:KDP) produces and distributes a wide range of beverages and single-serve brewing systems, including branded concentrates, ready-to-drink products, and coffee-related goods. Oakmark Select Fund stated the following regarding Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. (NASDAQ:KDP) in its Q4 2024 investor letter: 'Keurig Dr Pepper Inc. (NASDAQ:KDP) is one of North America's leading beverage companies, with dominant positions in single-serve coffee and flavored soft drinks. The soft drink portfolio has an impressive track record of volume growth and market share gains. We believe this performance can continue due to favorable demographic trends, brand strength, and distribution advantages. Recently, weakness in the Keurig coffee division caused the stock price to come under pressure. However, we believe these industry-wide challenges will prove transitory because coffee remains a popular beverage. Keurig's coffee division is poised to capitalize on this demand with the largest installed base of single-serve brewers and ample runway to increase household penetration. At the current quote, the market ascribes minimal value to Keurig. We were happy to purchase shares in this above-average business at a discount to the market multiple, other beverage peers and private market transactions.' Coca-Cola's discontinued college drink makes a big comeback

My brother is an avid Pepsi fan. He just hates Coca-Cola. For him, those two drinks are like parallel universes. For many consumers, on the other hand, Pepsi and Coca-Cola are interchangeable. I used to think that Nutella and Eurocream (European hazelnut spread) are more or less the same, but when I could afford Nutella more often, I realized they are not even similar. Sometimes, I worry that I became kind of snobby, because of that. I even prefer an empty crepe instead of one with any other nut-based spread. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter I guess the tastes are widely different, as we all know. That's why being in the food and beverage industry is so challenging. How to answer all those preferences and satisfy every taste and demand? How simple it would be if taste was the only parameter, but alas, it's far from it. There are also the quality of ingredients, current market trends, product sustainability, and so much more. On top of it, the product has to be profitable for the company. Taking all this into account, it's no surprise that many, even very popular, consumer products end up discontinued. A simple shift in consumer preferences, turning toward healthier alternatives, for example, could lead to less profitability, forcing companies to end production of a certain product. When one product ends up removed from shelves, chances are, it will upset at least a few people who loved it. The more popular the product, the bigger the response. In 2020, Coca-Cola discontinued Odwalla, a popular juice and smoothie brand. Some sources argue that Covid had its role in this, because Odwalla was a popular drink among certain crowds - college and school students. Related: Coca-Cola has genius plan to win back lost customers When the pandemic struck, many colleges and schools closed their doors, which might have been a contributing factor to the decision to discontinue the product. Odawalal's history is more interesting and complex than being just one of Coca-Cola's hundreds of brands. It was developed back in the 1980s when a group of jazzers from Chicago started selling orange juice out of a van to support their careers. Over time, the business expanded to include more fruit juice, smoothies, soy milk, bottled water, organic beverages, and even several types of energy bars. In 1996, Odwalla had a major setback as it was responsible for the fatal outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 and was found criminally liable, paying one of the highest penalties in food poisoning cases in the U.S. Changing its safety practices, Odwalla quickly regained profitability, and even by the end of 1998, its revenue surpassed pre-crisis numbers. In 2001, Odwalla was acquired by the Coca-Cola Company for $181 million, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary. Nineteen years later, Coca-Cola discontinued the business and sold it to Full Sail Ip Partners in 2021. In 2024, a family-owned Mexico-based juice maker Grupo Jumex inked a licensing deal with Full Sail IP, and revived Odwalla in January 2025. Jumex is going slow with the relaunch as it balances between offering a nostalgic taste for consumers who loved Odwalla's flavors and changing it to adapt to the current market trends. It has removed vitamins that were previously added to some of the products, placing a transparent list of real fruit and natural ingredients. Related: Iconic 1980s soda brand back on shelves with a surprising twist The company is using electro pasteurization, which is more expensive but preserves more of the juices' nutrients, according to Carlos Maraxo, country manager with Jumex USA. In a recent Food for Thought podcast, Maraxo explained that the brand is adapting to today's customer needs by offering a handful of high-quality ingredients and focusing on flavor. To provide users with a more premium experience, Jumex is offering Odwalla juices in Tetra Prisma cartons and smoothies in glass bottles instead of plastic. Jumex plans to innovate and expand its portfolio, but currently is careful about launching too many products at once. Three signature smoothies already in the market include mango, strawberry-banana, and berries, and three 100% juice options: a blend of orange guava and ginger, green juice made with pineapple, apple, and nopal (tender cactus); and a not-from-concentrate orange juice. "The U.S. is the most competitive market in the world. Obviously, it's going to be a challenge," Madrazo said. "We're taking this one step at a time. I don't want to minimize the complexity of relaunching it." The idea is to bring the brand "back to its former glory days." Struggling mall retailer shares sad Chapter 11 bankruptcy news

Once a company files Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it can sometimes pretend nothing has happened. A lot of retailers operating under a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing don't mention it in their stores or on the homepage of their website. They continue acting as if nothing has happened because that's what's best for business. Related: Coca-Cola has genius plan to win back lost customers In many cases, however, that's a bit like knowing you have a serious illness and not mentioning it to family and friends. Not talking about it does not make the situation go away, nor does it help you heal. With a bankruptcy, however, the fate of a company hangs in the balance. It might be working on new funding or trying to sell the company to creditors who may continue to run it. Forever 21 has been operating like that since it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time in March. The company has acted like it's business as usual, and its website only mentions the filing on an interior page. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter The company even used its Facebook page to tease a future it likely does not have. It posted under the heading, "Hey Forever 21 Fam." "We know there's been some buzz, and we want to clear things up. Forever 21 isn't going anywhere, and we are still committed to bringing you the styles you love. Right now, we're evolving, refreshing, and building what's next," it shared. That sounds nice, but it does not reflect the company's reality. While Forever 21 has been trying to convince its customers that things are fine, the company did file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 16. It shared some information on that filing on a page on its website. "In connection with the filing, we are beginning the process of closing a number of stores across the U.S. Importantly, however, our stores will remain open for the time being and we will continue to fulfill customer orders placed online. We also will continue to honor customer gift cards and store credit through and including April 15, 2025," it posted. More bankruptcy: Iconic auto repair chain franchise files Chapter 11 bankruptcyPopular beer brand closes down and files Chapter 7 bankruptcyPopular vodka and gin brand files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy The company also made some changes that are typical for a company being liquidated. "All sales both in U.S. stores and the U.S. website are now final. Accordingly, we will no longer be accepting returns or exchanges. Additionally, at this point, we are no longer offering new gift cards or credit cards," it added. The chain has tried to be optimistic, as a buyer could emerge, or some new form of funding might help keep the company alive. It shared information on that as well. "As part of our filing, we have requested to engage in a court-supervised marketing process for a going concern transaction or the sale of some or all of our assets. Decisions about which stores will ultimately close are ongoing, pending further discussions with landlords and potential buyers," it shared. Forever 21 has been in a sort of bankruptcy limbo because its unsecured creditors objected to an arrangement that would have led to them receiving almost nothing from the chain's liquidation. That changed on June 24, when judge Mary Walrath approved a new deal that would see those creditors receive more of the proceeds from a liquidation. "The repayment plan includes a settlement with lenders and former Forever 21 parent Sparc Group that's designed to boost recoveries for unsecured creditors that stood to get pennies on the dollar. Sparc agreed to fully waive a $323 million claim that would have diluted any amounts received by unsecured creditors. They will get 70% of any net proceeds that F21 OpCo obtains during liquidation," Business of Fashion reported. That ruling clears the path for Forever 21 to move toward fully liquidating its assets and closing all of its stores. Related: Popular children's retailer files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy A buyer or savior could still emerge, but under the current process, the company will continue to be liquidated unless that happens. Authentic Brands Group (ABG) owns the Forever 21 brand, and its stores have been operating under a license. The bankruptcy process is only impacting U.S. stores, and there's nothing preventing ABG from finding a new licensee after the current operator finishes its liquidation process.
