Canton woman sentenced for having more than 10 grams of meth in Sayre
SAYRE, Pa. (WETM) — A Canton woman was sentenced to time in state prison following an incident where officials say she had over 10 grams of meth, according to a release from the Bradford County District Attorney's Office.
Ashley E. McCarney, 31, was sentenced to a minimum of 15 months to a maximum of five years in a Pennsylvania State Prison, for the crime of possession with intent to deliver meth, a felony, as stated in a release from the DA's office.
PA man convicted for raping a child in 2022
The DA states that McCarney was charged with the crime after an officer from the Sayre Borough Police Department discovered McCarney with 13.78 grams of meth on White Wagon Road in Sayre, in November of 2024.
Upon further investigation, the DA explained that McCarney also had a scale and other drug-related items, which pointed to her probable plan to sell the meth.

The Brief Norristown Police are investigating two crashes that occurred at the same intersection in one day. The first crash that occurred Sunday was fatal, leaving one man dead and a woman and child hospitalized. No serious injuries were reported in the second crash. What we know Just hours after a fatal crash investigation wrapped up in Norristown, FOX 29 was there as a second crash occurred at the same intersection. Norristown Police say they responded to the first crash around 10:30 a.m., after they say a family's vehicle, trying to cross East Basin Street, was struck by a vehicle heading northbound on Dekalb Street. Police say a man died at the scene, and a woman and child were taken to the hospital. "I heard a big crash, came running out here," said Angela DiSanto, a neighbor. "It was quite upsetting because there was a little baby crying and it was pretty horrific." Just roughly six hours later, FOX 29 was there as another crash happened. A car, driving up Dekalb Street, collided with a car either trying to cross or turn onto Dekalb, from East Basin Street. "I'm home again and I heard a crash and literally yelled out my window, 'No not again!' and came running out here again to see the same thing, same road, not even eight hours later they literally just cleaned the street up," said DiSanto. Fortunately, in the second crash, there did not appear to be any serious injuries. What they're saying Neighbors say it is not unusual to hear crashes at the intersection. "It's always non-stop speeding, accidents everywhere, it's a dangerous intersection and a dangerous street honestly," said Dawn Lawrence, a neighbor. Neighbors tell FOX 29 that despite the traffic light a block away, they see issues with speeding, and they say it's a blind spot for drivers turning off East Basin Street due to parked cars. Leon Bonaparte says his niece was involved in the crash, but she is physically OK. "It's through the grace of God that no one was really hurt in the second incident but my condolences go out to the people that were involved in the first situation," said Bonaparte. "Something should be done as far as parking is concerned and then the rate of speed that people are traveling, anyone could be impacted."

1 dead in Brandon shooting, suspect at large: deputies
BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) — There was a large law enforcement presence in a Brandon neighborhood Sunday following a deadly shooting. One person was killed, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Sunday night deputies were still searching for the suspected shooter. Hillsborough officials identify 24-year-old killed by gunman who opened fire on car The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Providence Trace Circle, according to authorities. Detectives said the suspect and victim got into an argument in the breezeway of an apartment building. The suspect then took out a gun and shot the victim, who was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital. Officials have not yet released the victim's identity, but said it was a man who was killed. 'A man's life has been tragically cut short due to an act of violence that can never be undone,' said Sheriff Chad Chronister. 'There is no dispute that should ever come to this. Our detectives are doing everything they can to locate the suspect and ensure the victim and his family get the justice they deserve.' A helicopter was spotted circling the area, and several deputies were seen in the neighborhood. No further information was immediately available. This is a developing story. Nanticoke girl raises funds for firehouse dog
NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local girl is helping her community fire department raise money to care for their new firehouse dog. The department lost its old dog last fall. 28/22 News Reporter Avery Nape was there to visit the firehouse's new furry friend. Meet Hahn, a 14-week-old dalmatian, and Nanticoke Fire Department's new firehouse dog. The playful pup has only been with the department for two weeks. The growing pup requires a lot of care. That's why eight-year-old Teagan Bruza of Nanticoke decided to raise money to help even before she met him. 'I was, in my head, I was like, 'Oh my God, he's so cute,'' Teagan said. Teagan teamed up with friends, family, and firefighters for a fundraiser on Sunday. selling Italian ice, baked goods, and more than 400 hot dogs, all donated by the community. The money will help the department pay for Hahn's vet bills and other expenses. 'He has a lot of energy and is, like, real playful,' Teagan added. While this was the first time Teagan got to meet her new friend Hahn, she's no stranger to firehouse dogs. The department's old dog, Ash, passed away last fall. 'And like, when I heard the news, I was, like, heartbroken and, like, I was upset,' Teagan continued. Build-N-Athlete Inaugural Race steps off in Lackawanna County While the loss of their old dog, Ash, wasn't easy, 14-week-old Hahn is quickly becoming part of the family. 'He's learning how to go outside on his own. He goes to the door and lets us know he has to go out, and he's doing very well. He's adapting very well,' Nanticoke Fire Department Chief Mark Boncal told 28/22 News. Chief Boncal says firehouse dogs like Hahn play a crucial role in fire safety and prevention. Sometimes, like their first dog steamer in 1987, they can even save lives, as was the case one time with a kid. 'He was playing with matches and then a lighter and caught his clothes on fire, and he did stop-drop-and-roll. And when he was asked where he learned that from, he said, 'I learned it from Steamer,'' Chief Boncal explained. Teagan says she's excited to see Hahn at Fire Prevention Week at her school, but for now, she's grateful for all the support the community has shown and make this furry addition's role with the fire department possible. 'I would like to thank everybody who, like, helped out and, like, came and bought hot-dogs,' Teagan said. So far, more than $3,300 has been raised. Bruza and her family will be presenting a check to the department at Hahn's swearing-in ceremony on June 18. Anyone interested in donating can contact the Nanticoke Fire Department.
