Workshop on developing climate resilient farming held in Udhagamandalam

A two-day State level workshop on 'Developing Climate Resilient Farming' was held at the horticulture complex at Charring Cross in Udhagamandalam recently.
A press release stated that the programme was jointly organised by DST-NMSKCC Centre of Excellence, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Hyderabad for Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Tamil Nadu.
'The objective is addressing the urgent need for adaptive and sustainable climate resilient farming practices in the face of climate change,' the release from KVK said.
The programme was inaugurated by V.Geethalakshmi, former Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, and Shalik N.Meera, Director (ICAR-ATARI-X), Hyderabad, the press release added. P.Balasubramaniam, Director (Open and Distance Learning), P.P. Murugan, Director (Extension Education), and N.K. Sathayamurthy, Professor and Head, Agro Climate Research Centre, TNAU, also took part in the inaugural ceremony, the release added.
The workshop brought together programme co-ordinators of ICAR and TNAU KVKs across Tamil Nadu and senior scientists of TNAU for exchanging ideas, strengthening institutional networks and promoting climate-smart agriculture. The speakers highlighted the critical importance of climate-resilient approaches to farming and the need for timely interventions to safeguard farming communities. In their remarks, the dignitaries emphasised the importance of integrating scientific innovations and farmer-centric strategies to enhance climate resilience in agriculture.
The workshop included expert who delivered lectures on weather forecast based farm decision making, digital agriculture, labour smart technologies, ICT applications in climate resilient farming, Multi-functional agroforestry for carbon credit, nutrient and water smart technologies, climate resilient varieties and GIS and digital decision-support tools in agriculture and followed by panel discussions, interactive discussions to promote practical adoption at the farm level, the press release said.
This joint initiative by the Centre of Excellence on Climate and Disaster Resilient Agriculture, TNAU and ICAR-ATARI marked a significant step towards enhancing climate resilience in Indian agriculture and empowering farmers with science-based solutions, it added.
