SportsCenter LA delivers a sweet sign-off with a very special guest
SportsCenter LA signed off on Monday night for the final time, with ESPN ending the Los Angeles-based show after 15 years on the air, along with soccer studio shows.
And the sign-off was lovely, with Linda Cohn, Stan Verrett and ... Neil Everett, the anchor who was with the Worldwide Leader for 23 years and who left in 2023.
"What it feels like is the greatest local station ever, because everybody knows everybody," Verrett said. "We watched families develop and we've grown up together."
Cohn added that it's a family, and she thanked everybody before they all said goodbye.

Los Angeles unveils compact, athlete-friendly venue plan for 2028 Paralympics
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Every venue for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles will be within a 35-mile radius, and athletes will be housed together, on the UCLA campus, for the first time since the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. LA28 announced an updated venue plan Tuesday following approval from the International Paralympic Committee's governing board. The Paralympics will run Aug. 15-27, 2028, about two weeks after the the Los Angeles Olympics end. The majority of sports will be held in Los Angeles, with the downtown and Exposition Park sites serving as the main competition hubs. The Los Angeles Convention Center will host boccia, para judo, para table tennis, para taekwondo and wheelchair fencing. Adjacent to the Convention Center, Arena will host wheelchair basketball. Across the street, Peacock Theater will host goalball in an acoustically optimized setting. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will host para track and field, as well as the closing ceremony. The nearby Galen Center will host wheelchair rugby and para badminton. Venice Beach on the city's westside will be the site of para triathlon and the starting point of the marathon. The Dignity Health Sports Park complex in Carson will host para archery, wheelchair tennis and para track cycling in the velodrome. Climbing will make its Paralympic debut in 2028, with four men's and four women's events in the parking lot of the Long Beach Convention Center. Para swimming will be on the same site in a temporary pool. Sport shooting will be inside the convention center at a temporary range. Long Beach Arena will host sitting volleyball. A temporary arena at Alamitos Beach along the Pacific Ocean will be the site of blind football. Para rowing and para canoe-sprint events will be held at Marine Stadium. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tyler Glasnow is feeling optimistic about his recovery from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him since late April, one of five Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitchers who are on the injured list. There's no timetable yet for his return. The 31-year-old right-hander got hurt against Pittsburgh on April 27. He was recently moved to the 60-day IL. 'My shoulder is totally fine,' he said Tuesday. Glasnow downplayed the general body soreness that manager Dave Roberts mentioned on Monday. He said back tightness after a bullpen session prompted a precautionary decision to rest him for a few days. 'We're both on the same wavelength,' he said of himself and the team. His shoulder feels better, he said, and he plans to throw a bullpen session later this week. He played catch in the outfield Tuesday. 'I'll be back as soon as I can in a healthy way to help the team in the playoffs is my goal,' he said. Last season, Glasnow didn't pitch in the postseason because of right elbow tendinitis. He signed a $135.5 million, five-year deal before the 2024 season. Also Tuesday, the Dodgers signed right-hander José Ureña, who was designated for assignment last weekend by Toronto. He was 0-0 with a 3.65 ERA in six appearances for the Blue Jays. He began the season with the New York Mets, giving up five runs in three innings of his lone appearance. Ureña, 33, has spent 11 years in the majors with Miami, Detroit, Milwaukee, Colorado, the Chicago White Sox, Texas, the Mets and Blue Jays. He is 44-77 with a 4.78 ERA in 239 games.
