He missed time because of a strained right biceps and strained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee (2019), strained left hamstring (2020), strained left quadriceps (2021), right ankle inflammation and left Achilles tendinitis (2022) and strained left hamstring (2023 and 2024).

Ben Rice had started 43 games at designated hitter, Aaron Judge 17, Jasson Domínguez eight, and Paul Goldschmidt two.
Boone said righthander Jake Cousins will have Tommy John surgery on Wednesday with Rangers head team physician Dr. Keith Meister and righthander JT Brubaker likely will be activated in the next few days after recovering from three broken left ribs sustained when trying to avoid a comebacker in spring training.
Cousins, sidelined all season, made minor league rehab appearances on June 3 and 7 for High A Hudson Valley and felt discomfort.

Yankees Turn Heads With Giancarlo Stanton Statement on Monday
Yankees Turn Heads With Giancarlo Stanton Statement on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Giancarlo Stanton finally returned for the New York Yankees on Monday. His return couldn't have come at a better time, as they have lost five of their last eight games and scored a total of five runs in their last four games.. Advertisement They're coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of their American League East rival Boston Red Sox and are taking on the Los Angeles Angels at home. Stanton had been dealing with an elbow injury and is making his 2025 season debut. The Yankees took to their official X account to make it clear that Stanton, a five-time All-Star and former National League MVP with the Miami Marlins, is back in action. Stanton got his first hit of 2025 in the fourth inning, and fans reacted on X. "BIG G‼️‼️‼️," one fan wrote. "111 exit velo 💪🏼," another fan wrote. "welcome back," a third fan wrote. "torpedo big g we're winning it all," another fan wrote. "Surprised he made it to first base without pulling his hammy," a fifth fan wrote. "Not back until he knocks one out of the park," another user wrote. Stanton had torn tendons in both elbows during spring training, and there was some fear that he would have to sit out the whole season. Last year, he had 72 RBIs and 27 home runs in 114 regular-season games as the team got to the Fall Classic. New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (27) celebrates in the dugout after hitting a two-run home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Not a lot has gone right for the Yankees ever since they lost in last season's World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They lost superstar Juan Soto in free agency to the New York Mets, which was a stunning development that seemed to signify a karmic shift in balance between the two New York teams. Advertisement The Yankees have always been thought of as the titans of Major League Baseball, while the Mets have been the ugly stepchild of New York baseball, but Soto's departure put a huge dent in that tired old narrative. The Yankees took a 42-28 record into Monday's game. They still have a cushion over the Tampa Bay Rays, who are in second place in the American League East, but it isn't one they can take for granted. Rivals Five-Star: Key RB storylines to follow heading into Indianapolis
The Rivals Five-Star is being held June 23-24 at the Indianapolis Colts' practice facility. Here are four running back storylines we're following heading into the biggest event of the summer. RIVALS FIVE-STAR EVENT: Roster | Key QB storylines | Rivals Five-Star heading back to Indy BEST OF RIVALS CAMP SERIES: The five best QBs of the 2025 Rivals Camp Series regionals | Five best RBs | Five best WRs/TEs | Five best OL | Five best DL | Five best LBs | Five best DBs CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker The elite running back recruit has been busy with his national official visit schedule, taking in Georgia over the weekend and Florida State into the early week. Alabama, Miami, Auburn and others hosted him prior and/or are looking to make a late run at the South Florida native. Cooper talked about coming off the board as early as this week in a recent conversation with Rivals, but the back-to-back stops in Athens and Tallahassee could present a potential wrench in those plans. Going into the latest visit stretch, the Cooper recruitment had long felt like a Miami-Georgia battle so those two programs will continue to hold the buzz until a verbal commitment is to be made. Will Cooper stay home with The U or make a second commitment to Kirby Smart and company? Four of the nation's top-10 running back projections in the class of 2026, as well as the top-ranked all-purpose back in the rising-senior class, will be hitting the field in Indianapolis together. Cooper is the only five-star of the bunch to date, but Notre Dame commitment Javian Osborne, Ohio State pledge Favour Akih, future Florida back Carsyn Baker and spring USC commitment Deshonne Redeaux are each bringing a unique style to the event in addition to representing powerhouse college programs. In a setting that values versatility and flash ability in space, which of the committed backs can challenge Cooper for a potential fifth star or run at the top of the position rankings? Going into it, Osborne is the closest, currently tabbed as the No. 3 running back in the Rivals250. The rising-senior class is loaded and there is a special 2028 to participate with the running back group, but the top of the 2027 board will also be well-represented in Indy with top-ranked running back recruit Tyson Robinson and No. 1 all-purpose back CJ Cowley also signed up for the event. Robinson, who holds more than 30 scholarship offers to his name, brings a traditional compact build to the table along with real intrigue coming out of the state of Mississippi in what could be a breakout national performance. Cowley has flashed in camp settings this offseason, even snagging running back MVP honors at the Under Armour Atlanta event, so expect the Alabama native to continue to work well against linebackers and defensive backs considering the indoor setting. While very few 2028 recruits were even under consideration for a Rivals Five-Star invite, IMG Academy's Eric McFarland was on the list at multiple positions. The running back and wide receiver hybrid may become his own storyline if he continues to work out at each spot with the type of dominance he has shown over the last year or so no matter where he lines up. The event is not a padded setting, so McFarland's ability to work away from contact coming out of the backfield, in the slot or otherwise will almost certainly turn heads. There isn't a traditional back on the roster with the Las Vegas native's chops as a route-runner or potential finisher at the catch point, so it would be foolish to overlook the speedy freshman's value despite his youth.

Giancarlo Stanton turns in ‘solid first day' during Yankees return — but rues missed opportunity
Access the Yankees beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Greg Joyce about the inside buzz on the Yankees. Try it free After 70 games without him, Giancarlo Stanton finally was back in the middle of the Yankees' suddenly flailing lineup. Stanton garnered what he described as an 'awesome' standing ovation in his initial at-bat in the first inning during his long-awaited 2025 debut, and the slugger smacked two hits in four plate appearances during the Yanks' 1-0 loss in 11 innings Monday night to the Angels. Advertisement 'Great to be back. Obviously, [I] want to win, but it's good to be back out there,' Stanton said after the game. 'It was a solid first day, and I'll take it into tomorrow.' Stanton, who had been sidelined since the start of spring training with tendon issues in both elbows, ripped a single to left in the fourth inning and a leadoff double to left in the ninth off Angels closer Kenley Jansen. 4 Giancarlo Stanton doubles during the ninth inning of the Yankees' June 16 loss. Charles Wenzelberg Advertisement Jasson Domínguez replaced Stanton as a pinch runner, but the Yanks didn't score for a second straight game, finishing 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position. Despite his multihit game, Stanton pointed out that he had one of those failures to come through with a hard grounder to third to end the first inning against Angels starter José Soriano. 'Wrong time [for the hits], needed the one in the first,' he said. 'But it was good; I squared up some balls, squared up some high velocity, and that was important.' Advertisement Before the game, manager Aaron Boone had said that Stanton 'had a really good work day' on Sunday, adding he was 'so excited to get the big boy back.' The 35-year-old designated hitter had gone 3-for-11 in a three-game minor league rehab stint last week with Double-A Somerset — with a double, four RBIs, a walk and three strikeouts. 4 Giancarlo Stanton (27) gets congratulated after hitting a double in the ninth inning June 16. Charles Wenzelberg CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND YANKEES STATS Advertisement 'He's built some good momentum here over the last couple of months with it. The strength in his hands and things like that have returned in a good way,' Boone said. 'Certainly something we'll pay attention to, but feel like we're in a pretty good spot. 'He just got through playing three in a row down there, and that third day was up in the air. But because he continued to bounce back, [he played]. Hopefully that's a good sign moving forward.' 4 Giancarlo Stanton reacts after hitting a single during the Yankees' June 16 loss, Charles Wenzelberg 4 Giancarlo Stanton grounds out during the Yankees' loss to the Angels on June 16. Robert Sabo for the NY Post Even without the five-time All-Star, the Yanks have maintained a first-place position in the AL East standings, although their lead is down to 2.5 games over the second-place Rays. They entered this series leading the American League in runs scored and second in OPS (.794), and Boone now will try to figure out ways to find regular at-bats for a group that also includes Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt, Ben Rice and Domínguez for three lineup spots. 'Whatever is best for us to win, that's the most important,' said Stanton, who went deep seven times during the Yanks' 2024 postseason run before they lost to the Dodgers in the World Series. 'The guys that aren't starting are going to come up in huge pinch-hit spots, so you'll have in that opportunity a chance to win the game anyway. So we'll work with it.'
