
16 teams to compete in Muscat Ramadhan football tournament
Muscat: The Muscat Ramadhan Football Tournament will commence on Saturday, sponsored by Maksab Platform and in collaboration with the Oman Automobile Association. The matches will be played on the six-a-side pitch at the association's venue, with 16 teams from various governorates participating. These teams represent community clubs, government entities, private companies and expatriate communities, competing for prize money exceeding RO 6,000.
The tournament draw was conducted on Wednesday, dividing the teams into four groups. Group A includes Al Fan Al Hadith, Oman Automobile Association, Al Ghalibi, and Safety and Security, while Group B consists of Tahadi Al Matar, KN3, Shabab Al Khamesa and Blanco. In Group C, the teams are Amigos, Al Alami, Al Ittihad and Al Fahs, whereas Group D features Rubou' Haima, Al Hadeetha for Energy, Al Karaz and Rozna Restaurant.
The tournament follows a group-stage format, where the top two teams from each group advance to the knockout rounds. Each match will last 40 minutes, split into two halves, with a five-minute half-time break. Unlimited substitutions are allowed, provided that players enter the field from the centre line. If a knockout match ends in a draw, the winner will be decided directly through penalty shoot-outs. Regarding disciplinary actions, a player receiving a red card will be suspended for one match, while a player accumulating three yellow cards will also face a one-match suspension. All yellow cards will be cleared after the group stage, except for red cards, which will remain valid until the end of the tournament.

The organising committee has allocated financial prizes and trophies for the top teams. The champion will receive RO 3,000, a championship trophy and gold medals, while the runner-up will be awarded RO 1,800 along with silver medals. The third-place team will receive RO 750. In addition, RO 500 will be awarded to the tournament's best player, top-scorer and best goalkeeper.
Ibrahim al Jenaibi, a board member of Maksab Platform, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response to the Muscat Ramadhan Football Tournament, noting that the number of participating teams exceeded expectations despite the delayed launch. A total of 16 teams joined the competition, while additional requests for participation were received but could not be accommodated.
Al Jenaibi emphasised that the tournament is one of the largest football events in Oman, expressing his aspiration to expand it further in the coming years to make it even bigger. He added: "We aim to introduce qualification rounds before Ramadhan, with the finals held during the holy month. This will allow a larger number of teams to take part in the competition."
Al Jenaibi pointed out that the tournament will not be limited to sports competitions alone but will also include various Ramadhan activities aimed at engaging the wider community. A food court will be set up around the pitch, along with several other Ramadhan-themed events, to create a comprehensive entertainment experience for attendees.
Al Jenaibi revealed the launch of a Best Commentator Competition, an initiative designed to highlight new talents in sports commentary and give them a platform to showcase their skills in the Omani sports scene.
Additionally, Al Jenaibi announced the introduction of a Super Cup match, where the champion of the Muscat Ramadhan Tournament will face off against the winner of the Journalists Association Tournament, adding another level of excitement and competition to the event.
Al Jenaibi extended his gratitude to the Oman Automobile Association for its support and cooperation, reaffirming the organising committee's commitment to delivering an exceptional sports and entertainment experience for the audience.

KAS Falcons lift MOCL champions cup
MUSCAT: The fourth MOCL Friday Afternoon League had two groups of 34 teams participated enthusiastically. The finalists were KAS Falcons and Bravos XI, in which KAS Falcons emerged champions of the fourth edition of MOCL Friday Afternoon League by defeating Bravos XI by 11 runs in the final at MIS ground in Misfa. It was the most thrilling moment for the spectators. The winners were given trophy and a prize money of RO 250 while runners-up got trophy and RO 175. In the final, Bravos XI won the toss and elected to field. KAS Falcons scored 160 runs in 16 overs. In return, Bravos could make only 149-8 in 16 overs. It was a great fight from both teams till the last ball. Shiveray from KAS Falcons was awarded the Man of the Match of the final for his outstanding performance. He scored 46 runs from 15 balls which had four mighty sixes and four fours and also took three catches as the wicket-keeper. His powerful strokeplay in the last 2 overs lifted the score of KAS Falcons to 160 runs. Haris Ahmed from KAS Falcons scored 41 runs from 25 balls. Aneermon from Bravos XI scored 30 runs from 14 balls. Mubin from Awan Gas team was awarded the best batsman of the tournament. He scored a grand total of 705 runs in the entire tournament. Tamraiz from KAS Falcons was awarded the best bowler of the tournament. He took 42 wickets. Mubin from Awan Gas was awarded the player of the tournament for this outstanding performance with both bat and the bowl. The sponsors for this tournament were Lama International group, Misfar, Essential Trading, Hotpack and Team Blasters. The official umpires for the tournament were Faisal Rahim and Anil. The organisers and the coordinators of the tournament — Robert, Laji John, Sarath Chandran and Anil — congratulated the teams and the sponsors for the support to make this tournament a grand success. The popular tournament was conducted in the spirit of fun for all cricket lovers in Oman.

General Hockey League kicks off today
MUSCAT: The General Hockey League kicks off today, Sunday, with the participation of five clubs: Seeb, Ahli Sidab, Al Amerat, Al Nasr and Salalah. The matches will be held from May 4 to May 20 at the Oman Hockey Stadium in Al Amerat and the Salalah Hockey Stadium. The tournament will open with a match between Seeb and Al Amerat, with daily matches continuing in a round-robin format. Each team will play four matches in the preliminary stage and the top four teams will qualify for the final stage (Golden Square). The preliminary round features a packed schedule: on Wednesday, Ahli Sidab will face Al Amerat, while Al Nasr will play against Salalah. On May 10, Seeb will take on Ahli Sidab. On May 11, Al Amerat will face Salalah and Seeb will play Al Nasr. The action continues on May 12 with Salalah vs Ahli Sidab and Al Nasr vs Al Amerat. The final round of this stage will be held on May 14 with two matches: Ahli Sidab vs Al Nasr and Salalah vs Seeb. The final stage will follow a triangular league format among the qualifying teams and will run from May 16 to 20, with several rounds played to determine the final standings. The league concludes on May 20 with two matches: one for third place and the other to determine the league champion. According to the regulations issued by the Oman Hockey Association, players will participate using electronic ID cards approved by the association. Each team will play four matches in the preliminary stage and the top four teams will qualify for the final stage The tournament director has been authorised to make administrative and organisational decisions in accordance with international law and the association's regulations. Clubs are required to submit a player roster with a maximum of 22 players and 4 staff members (technical, administrative, or medical) at least one week before their first match. They must also submit the primary and alternate team kits, including the goalkeeper's uniform, 72 hours before their first match. Player jerseys will be numbered from 1 to 99 and each player must keep the same number throughout the tournament. The association has allocated cash and in-kind prizes totalling RO 11,000 for the top three teams. The league champion will receive the league shield, 25 gold medals and a cash prize of RO 5,000. The second-place team will receive 25 silver medals and RO 3,500, while the third-place team will earn 25 bronze medals and RO 2,500. Individual awards of RO 100 each, along with commemorative gifts, will be presented to the best player, best goalkeeper and top scorer of the tournament. In terms of logistical support, the Oman Hockey Association will provide 22 flight tickets for Al Nasr and Salalah clubs, in addition to accommodation, airport transportation and meals for 22 individuals per club. The clubs will be responsible for arranging transportation to and from the designated match venues.

Elite Ramadhan Show Jumping Competition concludes
The Elite Ramadhan Show Jumping Competition, organised by Elite Show at the Olympic Arena of Al Rahba Farm in the Wilayat of Barka under the supervision of the Oman Equestrian and Racing Association, concluded with participation of more than 100 horses from various government cavalry units and private stables across five categories. The competition saw intense competition in a Ramadhan atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and excitement. The event was sponsored and supported by Nama Water Services, Liva Insurance, and several private sector institutions. It was attended by Sayyid Munthir bin Saif al Busaidy, Chairman of Oman Equestrian and Racing Association, along with several board members and representatives from participating units and stables. Elite Ramadhan Show Jumping Competition concludes In Category (C) of 120 cm Jump Height category, 12 horses competed and Barbara Marta on Caster from Al Said Stables took First place. In the Category (D) at 110 cm Jump Height, a total of 16 horses participated and Sultan bin Saif al Foori on Bassam from Royal Cavalry claimed the First place award. At Category (E) for 100 cm Jump Height featured 21 horses and Rashid bin Amer al Mashaykhi on Raad from Royal Oman Police won the first place award. At Category (F) of 90 cm Jump Height, a total of 34 horses competed and Wafaa bint Rashid al Housniyah on Jatha from Royal Oman Police clinched the top place. At Beginner Category of 70 cm Jump Height, a total of 30 horses vied for the top places with 10 riders successfully completing the round with no errors. At the end of each round, the top riders were honoured, with a victory lap on horseback to celebrate their achievements. The final awards were presented by Sayyid Munthir bin Saif al Busaidy, Chairman of Oman Equestrian and Racing Association.
