Shinty: Cup finals to be set - as Premier Division leaders Kingussie welcome back star man for meeting with National Division table-toppers
The first finalists of the shinty season will soon be known as the north and south cup competitions reach the semi-final stage this weekend.
It is one defender in and one defender out for holders Kingussie ahead of their WM Donald MacTavish Cup semi against Lochaber.
Their 2023 national player of the year Robert Mabon returns, but Rory MacKeachan faces a spell on the sidelines.
Manager Iain Borthwick explained: 'Robert flies into the country today (Friday), but Rory's out with hamstring problems again and could be missing for a good few weeks.
'Ruaridh Anderson completed a 40km cycle this week and said his ankle's good, whilst Lee Bain trained and should be in the squad.
'Lochaber are deadly upfront, scoring lots of goals, and we won't take them lightly.'
While Kingussie are top of the Mowi Premiership and clear favourites, Lochaber lead the Mowi National Division.
Lochaber boss Ally Ferguson said: 'Kingussie's track record speaks for itself, and they were the team the other clubs wished to avoid.
'However, we've prepared well, and the game will be played on the amazing surface at The Dell, which our lads will relish.
'There's no doubt we'll need to be at our very best to progress to the final.'
Lovat and Fort William contest the other MacTavish Cup semi.
The former side were last in the final in 2014, when they lifted the trophy, while Fort were beaten finalists last year, last lifting the trophy in 2007.
Lovat boss Iain Nicolson said: 'I targeted this cup when I came in at the start of the season as it's been a while since we've had success in this competition.
'It's a massive opportunity, especially with home advantage, but we'll have to be at our best against a Fort team in great form and full of confidence.'
Lovat rested forward Greg Matheson last week, but he returns for this one.
Fort William co-manager Alan Knox added: 'This has potential to be a cracker.
'We have Calum Shepherd back in the squad and Cam Stephen has trained, so we'll see how he is.
'Craig MacDonald is still out, but everyone else is fit.
'We had a good result last Saturday so hopefully we can kick on and reach another final.'
Scottish Sea Farms Glasgow Celtic Society Challenge Cup holders Oban Camanachd entertain Glasgow Mid Argyll.
'Oban assistant manager Iain MacMillan said: 'This will be tough as GMA are well-coached and are Premiership quality, so we'll have to be prepared both mentally and physically for a battle.
'We won't rush Louie MacFarlane or Daniel MacCuish back, but Craig Macmillan's free after suspension.'
GMA manager Alan MacRae said: 'Oban Camanachd are a well-established Premiership side, so pose a real challenge.
'We're still without Craig Anderson and we lost Cammie McCue on Saturday with possible ligament damage.
'Rory MacDiarmid misses out due to work commitments.'
Kyles Athletic welcome Inveraray as they search for a first Celtic Society success since 2021.
Manager Grant Profit said: 'We're excited about this game.
'Ross Macrae remains out and Roddy Macdonald's unavailable, but keeper Iain MacFarlane returns, as does Scott Macdonald. We're raring to go.'
Kinlochshiel and Newtonmore can close the gap on the Mowi Premiership's leading pack when they meet at Rearaig.
Shiel's Finlay MacRae and More's Drew MacDonald both didn't play last weekend and face fitness tests.
Caberfeidh manager Garry Reid was unhappy with his team's performance against Fort William last weekend, so will be looking for improvement against Beauly, who have defender Angus Renwick free of suspension.
Glenurquhart host Bute in the Mowi National Division.
There was late drama as Mowi WCA Premier League leaders Badenoch won 2-1 at Skye.
Skye's Holly Maclean cancelled out Hope Borthwick's opener with just a couple of minutes remaining, but there was still time for Megan Ralph's late winner.
Lochaber leapfrog Skye into second place as Leah Maxtone's double and Elaine Wink earned a 3-0 win at Inverness.

Charlie Gilmour has dealt Caley Thistle an early summer blow – with the midfielder rejecting the chance to remain in the Highlands for the 'security' of Championship Dunfermline Athletic. The former Arsenal and Norwich City youngster has penned a three-year contract with the Pars after spending the last two seasons at ICT. He had been offered a new contract at Caledonian Stadium, but with the financially-troubled League One Highlanders still in administration – ahead of a decisive takeover meeting on Thursday – Gilmour has opted instead for the certainty of a long-term agreement in Fife. 'I've signed a three-year deal, which is a nice bit of security,' Gilmour told the Courier. 'I can just focus on my football now and try and aim for the Scottish Premiership. 'Football is like a rollercoaster. I'm just looking forward to having a bit of stability now and just fully focusing on my football and progressing with the club. 'For myself, in my career, I've always wanted to play at the highest level. And this is a good step for me to take. 'I want to achieve good things at Dunfermline, so I want us to get to the Premiership. 'I enjoyed it at Inverness as well. It's a good club and, obviously, it's unfortunate what's happened in the last two years since I've been there.' Gilmour, 26, who was signed by then ICT boss Billy Dodds two years ago, made 72 appearances for the Highlanders, scoring seven goals. Contracts are currently being considered by Inverness defender Remi Savage and midfielder Paul Allan. Assistant boss and striker Billy Mckay, captain Danny Devine, winger Luis Longstaff and eight platers aged 21 or under recently agreed new deals at the Caledonian Stadium. Once Inverness exit administration, boss Scott Kellacher can make moves to sign new players ahead of the new campaign. Gilmour will reunite with his former ICT team-mate Keith Bray, who joined the Pars in January before seeing out the closing months of the season on loan with the Caley Jags.

Caley Thistle captain Danny Devine: Our youngsters must cement places - despite need for 'four or five' signings
Skipper Danny Devine is urging Caley Thistle's youngsters to push to be regular starters in Scott Kellacher's side next season. A large proportion of players aged 21 or under were part of the administration-hit club's squad in League One, but they finished in seventh spot last month, despite a 15-point punishment before the turn of the year. Defender Devine, who recently agreed a new two-year contract, wants those youngsters to return for pre-season later this month determined to kick on – despite the Highlanders impending exit from administration meaning they will be able to bring in more experience to bolster their ranks. Devine said: 'I was so impressed by how the young boys did last season. 'A lot of them are eager to really step up next year. 'It is time for them to step up and cement their places in the manager's mind. 'It will be interesting to see when they come back this month how they have improved. 'Having the likes of myself, Billy (Mckay) and Luis (Longstaff) sign new contracts is a good foundation, as well as Adam Mackinnon, who is signed up for next season. 'Hopefully we can add four or five boys and then I think we'll do alright.' Former ICT chairman Alan Savage hopes to have his £800,000 offer for the club given the green light in Thursday's CVA (company voluntary arrangement) meeting. Exiting administration, as a result, would allow head coach Kellacher to bolster his playing pool. ICT's pre-season matches kick off with a friendly at local Highland League hosts Clachnacuddin on June 21. This has been the first year since 2021 Caley Thistle's season has not dragged on into May or early June, due to promotion play-offs in the Championship or the 2023 Scottish Cup final. Devine is welcoming the chance to properly rest the legs, especially following a year packed with high-pressure games every week. He said: 'Over the last four years, we've had no more than three weeks off each time, so it was good to get finished a wee bit earlier this year. 'It meant the boys could get away for a holiday. 'After a stressful season, they can recharge the batteries and come back fresh for the new season.' Inverness will begin their competitive campaign in the Premier Sports Cup group stage next month. They host League Two Elgin City on July 15 before St Johnstone, just relegated from the Premiership, visit the Caledonian Stadium four days later. League Two newcomers, Lowland League winners East Kilbride will welcome ICT to South Lanarkshire on July 22, before their section fixtures round off at Barry Robson's Championship Raith Rovers on July 26. Devine sees it as a real opportunity for the Caley Jags to reach the League Cup knock-out rounds. He said: 'I think it's a good draw. 'There are games that are very winnable in our group – especially if we can add four or five players to the squad before those ties. 'I like to come up against different kinds of opponents in this competition early in the season, so you can gauge how the team is shaping up. 'Hopefully we can do well.' Devine also offered his congratulations to Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie, who helped the Dons lift the Scottish Cup a fortnight ago. In doing so, he became a history-maker – the first player to captain two clubs to glory in the cup, having been skipper in ICT's cup win in 2015, which Devine was a part of. He added: 'It's an amazing achievement by Graeme – when I read that, I was absolutely delighted for him. 'What an achievement to have on your resume, to have captained Aberdeen and Inverness to Scottish Cup wins. 'When he finally hangs the boots up, he can be extremely proud of making such history.'
