2027 Jaguar EV Type 00 Spied Near Nurburgring

2027 Jaguar EV Type 00 Spied Near Nurburgring

The latest car news, reviews, and features.
The next era of Jaguar is currently being developed before our eyes.
The first of three EVs expected to debut later in 2025 has been spied prowling the public streets surrounding the Nurburgring in Germany. The EV is a large grand tourer and will be the production variant of the Type 00 concept car shown in 2024.
Despite the heavy camouflage, the electric prototype for the production car clearly resembles the Type 00 concept's design. Unrealistic elements from the concept such as the slit-like lighting appears to be replaced by functional production-intent units.
The mile-long hood will make it to production despite the lack of a gas-powered engine. Jaguar's toned down the rear end a bit while making the leap from concept to reality with a more tapered, practical, set of lines. It's unclear at this point whether the production car will have a glass rear window or forego that practical piece of visibility in the name of design like the concept car. A large charging port door can be seen on the driver-side front fender.
Despite the concept having two doors, the production car will be a four-door with frameless windows. Expect seating for four adults, though the back seat may skimp on legroom compared to a Bentley Flying Spur.
Yes, Bentley Flying Spur, and Rolls-Royce Ghost. Those will be the competition when the production iteration of the Type 00 arrives. Jaguar's rebrand is intended to move the iconic automaker upmarket into a low-volume, high margin status symbol brand. The previous business plan of volume with the XE and E-Pace sedan and crossovers, which were meant to chase after BMW 3-Series and X3 sales, will be a distant memory.
The rebranding has not gone without missteps. The outsourced situation led to reported infighting within the automaker.
The Type 00 will ride on a new platform dubbed Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Little is known about the platform outside of the ability to have up to 1,000 horsepower and up to 430 miles of driving range with up to 23-inch wheels. Jaguar has claimed the electrical architecture will be capable of adding up to 200 miles of range in 15 minutes when hooked to a DC fast charger.
Expect the production version of the Type 00 to go on sale in 2026 and cost more than $150,000. An SUV and sedan variant are expected to arrive shortly after.

MedTech Europe calls for medtech tariff and export restriction exemptions

MedTech Europe has issued a statement calling on European policymakers to exempt medical technologies from any trade tariffs or export restrictions. In response to the European Commission's (EC) conclusion of a public consultation on proposed EU countermeasures impacting trade with the US, MedTech Europe expressed deep concern over a draft package that 'targets a broad range of finished medical devices, in vitro diagnostic (IVD) medical devices, and a variety of essential components used in their manufacture'. The trade body's overall request was that medical technologies be included and prioritised in a 'zero for zero' tariff agreement on industrial goods or as part of any negotiated settlement that seeks to eliminate tariffs on both sides of the Atlantic. The EC's consultation, which was announced on 8 May and closed on 10 June, was launched to gather input towards finalising proposals for the adoption of countermeasures against the Trump's administration's imposition of tariffs on the bloc. Upon launching the consultation, EC president Ursula von der Leyen said: 'Tariffs are already having a negative impact on the global economies. The EU remains fully committed to finding negotiated outcomes with the US. 'At the same time, we continue preparing for all possibilities, and the consultation launched today will help guide us in this necessary work.' President Trump's initial announcement of tariffs for many countries and regions worldwide on 2 April has been marked by continued flip-flopping. The EU was originally facing 20% blanket tariffs on all imported goods from 9 April; however, the White House walked back its plans on the date, instead choosing to enact a 90-day pause on the imposition of tariffs. Trump has since threatened to raise tariffs on the EU to 50% if no deal is reached by the end of the pause period on 9 July. According to reports by German newspaper Handelsblatt, the EU was willing to accept a flat fee of 10% tariffs. However, in a statement shared with Reuters, the EC dismissed the claims, stating: "Negotiations are ongoing, and no agreement has been reached at this stage. The EU has from the start objected to unjustified and illegal US tariffs.' In concluding remarks, MedTech Europe stated: 'Patients must not become collateral damage in a trade dispute. Safeguarding their access to the technologies they depend on must remain a shared priority.' On 11 June, leading players from the medtech industry convened on Capitol Hill alongside the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) to advocate for the elimination of tariffs on medical technologies. After the Trump administration's announcement of a 90-day pause on the imposition of tariffs for most countries, barring China, AdvaMed CEO Scott Whitaker voiced similar hopes as MedTech Europe, restating his previous request that a 'zero for zero' tariff deal on medtech with all of the US's key trading partners be struck. Planned EV Battery Plant Is a ‘Death Sentence' for Uncontacted Indonesian Tribe

On Sunday, June 29, Indonesia will break ground on a $6 billion electric vehicle (EV) battery plant on Halmahera, the largest of the Maluku islands. The facility will mine the island's abundant nickel reserves and manufacture batteries on-site to reduce production costs in Indonesia, but a watchdog warns it could decimate an uncontacted tribe. The Hongana Manyawa—whose name means 'people of the forest' in their language—are one of the last nomadic hunter-gatherer peoples in Indonesia, according to Survival International. Some 3,500 of them live within Halmahera's rainforest, and roughly 500 remain uncontacted. Over the last several years, Indonesia's booming nickel-mining industry has deforested more than 13,000 acres (5,000 hectares) of Halmahera's tropical forests, destroying the Hongana Manyawa's homeland. This country is now the world's largest nickel producer, and its latest money grab poses a grave threat to the Hongana Manyawa, advocacy groups warn. 'This announcement is a death sentence for the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa,' said Caroline Pearce, head of Survival International, in a statement. 'Their home—the land that is theirs under international law—is being brazenly seized and destroyed to cater to global industries and global consumption.' 'Nickel and other mega-projects are often launched under the banner of green development but leave behind a trail of social and environmental harm,' said Brad Adams, Executive Director at Climate Rights International, in a statement. 'Communities are repressed, forests are cleared, and pollution goes unaddressed with impunity. This is a chance for the Prabowo government to show that it has learned from those failures.' The new plant, financially backed by China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), will integrate multiple components of EV battery production. Mining operations, smelting, nickel extraction, and production of precursors and cathodes will all take place on-site, according to the Indonesian news agency ANTARA. The project is one of 18 downstream industrial projects—valued at nearly $45 billion—that will break ground in Indonesia, ANTARA reports. According to a 2024 Survival International report, at least 19 mining companies are operating on the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa's land, including the largest and second-largest nickel mines in the world. Most of these facilities are mining nickel, and together, they span about 40% of the uncontacted people's territory. The Halmahera nickel rush is part of the Indonesian government's efforts to feed the global nickel demand for EV batteries. As of last year, the country accounted for 51% of the world's nickel mine production, according to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis. Scrutiny from environmentalists recently drove Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to cancel four nickel mining permits on the neighboring islands of Raja Ampat. 'The President has a special concern to ensure Raja Ampat remains a world-class tourist attraction and protect its sustainability,' Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia told reporters earlier this month. In 2024, more than 30,000 tourists visited these islands, contributing roughly $9.25 million to locally generated revenue, according to The Jakarta Post. The same can't be said for Halmahera, which lacks sufficient infrastructure to support tourism. Still, advocates hope that the Indonesian government will take similar steps to protect Halmahera and its people. 'The Indonesian government has shown it's prepared to cancel nickel mining to save tourism; it must now also do so to stop an appalling human rights atrocity,' Pearce said. 'By acting now and establishing a no-go zone for mining on the territory of the uncontacted Hongana Manyawa people, the government can prevent their annihilation.' This tribe isn't alone. A 2022 study found that 54% of critical mineral mining projects for essential components, like the nickel used in EV batteries, are located on or near indigenous lands. Of those projects, 29% impact lands that indigenous peoples manage or conserve. While the Western world may see the EV industry as a climate solution, its impact on rainforests—and the people that call them home—threatens to outweigh its benefits.

Time Finance reports £217m gross lending-book for FY24/25

AIM-listed specialist finance provider Time Finance has reported a record gross lending book of £217m for the financial year ended 31 May 2025 (FY24/25), marking its 16th consecutive quarter of growth. The company said its continued focus on secured, own-book lending to UK businesses helped it register an 8% increase in lending volumes, underlining the success of its shift towards invoice finance and the hard element of asset finance. These areas accounted for more than 90% of the new lending volume originated in the financial year and now constitute 83% of the total lending book. Revenue for the FY24/25 increased by 11% to £37m while profit before tax saw a substantial rise of 34% to £7.9m. The profit before tax (PBT) margin also improved by 300 basis points to 21%. The company's net tangible assets grew by 14% to £44.1m. Deferred income, which provides visibility of future earnings, rose by 5% to £26.7m. Importantly, the company maintained its lending discipline, with net arrears and bad debt write-offs remaining unchanged at 5% and 1% of the gross lending book, respectively. Time Finance also secured extended and enhanced funding facilities, providing headroom in excess of £90m to fuel future growth. Time Finance CEO Ed Rimmer expressed satisfaction with the company's performance, stating: "31 May 2025 saw the end of the four-year strategy that we commenced in June of 2021. We can look back with great satisfaction on a period of strong delivery. "The business ends the year having enjoyed record revenues, improved margins and with an ever-growing lending book as UK SMEs take advantage of our multi-product offering. This has been achieved without the lowering of our credit quality, as demonstrated by the consistent and stable nature of both our arrears and our net write-offs. Looking forward, Rimmer expressed confidence in the company's new three-year growth plan through to May 2028 and its potential to continue building long-term value for shareholders.
