Karnataka's 11th Vande Bharat Express To Link Bengaluru And Belagavi. Check Details
Karnataka is set to welcome its 11th Vande Bharat Express, a semi-high-speed train connecting Bengaluru and Belagavi, enhancing connectivity in the state. Approved by the Railway Ministry, this new service addresses long-standing public demand for a premium rail link between these two cities. Contrary to earlier speculations, it will not be an extension of the existing Bengaluru–Hubballi–Dharwad Vande Bharat but a dedicated service. The service is expected to benefit daily commuters, students, professionals, and business travellers by improving connectivity and reducing travel time in the Kittu,r Karnataka region.
The initiative was confirmed by Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar, who, along with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and others, had urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for this service. A trial run was conducted in November 2023, initially considering an extension of the Dharwad route, but a new train was approved instead. On X, Mr Shettar expressed delight and gratitude to the central government for approving the new Vande Bharat Express.

Route and Stops: The new Bengaluru-Belagavi Vande Bharat Express will operate daily, starting from Belagavi in the morning and returning from Bengaluru in the afternoon. It will stop at key stations, including Londa, Dharwad, Hubballi, Haveri, Davangere, Tumakuru, and Yeshwantpur.
Travel Time and Fare:
While exact timings and the commercial launch date are yet to be announced, tentative fares are estimated at approximately Rs 1,500 for Chair Car and Rs 2,500 for Executive Class. The service aims to reduce travel time, offering a faster, more comfortable journey.
Maintenance:
Primary maintenance will be conducted in Belagavi, with the train initially comprising eight coaches, expandable based on passenger demand.
With this addition, the state will have 11 Vande Bharat trains. Currently, the network includes five trains originating from Bengaluru, connecting to Dharwad, Kalaburagi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, and Madurai. Mysuru has two trains to Chennai via Bengaluru, while Mangaluru has two trains to Madgaon and Thiruvananthapuram. Hubballi is connected to Pune with one train, and this new Bengaluru-Belagavi train will further enhance connectivity within the state.

Agra: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's adviser Awanish Kumar Awasthi on Friday, chaired a meeting at the tourist facilitation centre in Vrindavan, to discuss issues related to the proposed Banke Bihari Corridor with members of the Goswami community involved in the management of the temple, local shopkeepers and residents. To battle floods, Bengal govt to start Teesta dredging soon
1 2 3 Jalpaiguri: With the bed of the Teesta rising around two metres following the 2023 Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in Sikkim, Bengal govt has decided to dredge and desilt the river. The GLOF at North Sikkim's South Lhonak Lake in Oct 2023 had significantly impacted the Teesta riverbed with massive silt deposit. Experts fear that if the river is not desilted immediately, a heavy downpour in the upper catchment areas might spell doom for the areas the Teesta flows through. The rising river has already washed away two villages — Laltong and Chamakdangi — in Jalpaiguri's Rajganj block. At least 200 families from the two villages have been relocated to Kholachand Fapri. Bengal govt has decided to engage West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Ltd (WBMDTCL) and the irrigation department to desilt some 30 spots on the Teesta from Sevoke railway bridge to Maynaguri's Bakali, across 50 km. "It would be a no-cost-effect dredging and the state will gain revenue by selling the sand and riverbed material," said irrigation minister Manas Bhunia in Jalpaiguri on Thursday after a meeting with departments concerned. A survey by the irrigation department estimates that it would cost about Rs 567 crore to desilt the Teesta if private agencies are involved. "Centre has not given a single penny since 2016 for desilting or bund repairing. This year, Centre has allocated only Rs 412 crore for the entire country's flood management. We, therefore, have decided to desilt Teesta on our own," Bhunia said. The minister also advocated for an India-Bhutan river commission. "There are 76 rivers originating from Bhutan which spell catastrophe for the Dooars every monsoon. They bring along dolomite, raising riverbeds by 4-5 feet. A joint river commission is the need of the hour but Centre is paying no heed to our appeals," he said. Nominations for standing committee posts filed
New Delhi: Nominations for the posts of chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi 's pivotal standing committee were filed on Friday. Satya Sharma of BJP submitted her papers for the post of chairperson, while Sunder Singh filed for deputy chairperson. For the Aam Aadmi Party , Praveen Kumar and Mohini Jeenwal filed their nominations, respectively, for the posts of chairperson and deputy chairperson. The filing of nominations took place at the municipal secretary's office at Civic Centre in the presence of mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and leader of the House Pravesh Wahi. Singh welcomed the move, saying, "It is a matter of joy for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi that the standing committee is at long last being constituted. In its absence, significant development projects could not be planned. Now, all members will work together to enhance civic amenities for the people of Delhi. " The election for both posts will take place on June 12. Currently, BJP holds an advantage in the House with 117 councillors, overtaking AAP, which had won 134 seats in the 2022 elections but now has at 97 due to defections, election of some members to the Delhi Assembly and the breaking away of 16 members to form the Indraprastha Vikas Party.
