Nick Offerman Burns Michael Flynn Jr. For Using 'Parks And Rec' Clip To Attack Pride Month

Yahoo2 days ago

MAGA influencer Michael Flynn Jr. apparently thought the best way he could 'celebrate' the start of Pride month was by posting an anti-gay meme.
But his trolling efforts failed because of his choice of meme ― a doctored clip from the beloved sitcom 'Parks and Recreation' showing character Ron Swanson tossing a Pride flag into a dumpster.
That's because Nick Offerman, the actor who played Swanson, responded to Flynn with some truths about his character's relationship with gay people.
It all started Sunday when Flynn — the son of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who briefly served as President Donald Trump's national security adviser during his first term — posted the 'Parks and Rec' clip.
In the original scene from the Season 4 episode 'The Trial Of Leslie Knope,' Swanson throws a computer into the dumpster.
Flynn Jr.'s version covered up the computer with a Pride flag, and he wrote:
'Good morning and Happy Sunday!
No quotes today.
Just wanted to post how I feel about 'pride' month.'

Because Swanson's character was written as a loving spoof of manly, taciturn guys, he became an unironic favorite character of conservatives during the show's seven-season run between 2009 and 2015.
Offerman, the actor who played Swanson, is definitely more liberal than the gruff director of the Pawnee Parks and Recreation Department. But he responded to Flynn's anti-Pride post by noting that Swanson had no problem with gay people ― and pointed out that 'Ron was best man at a gay wedding you dumb fuck.'

Offerman is referring to a scene in the show's series finale that shows some of the characters in the future, including Swanson standing up as best man at the wedding of his barber, Typhoon, to his husband, Craig.
You can see a clip of that scene as well as other exchanges between Swanson and Typhoon here.
Not surprisingly, many people had thoughts about Offerman attempting to set the record straight about his character's live-and-let-live philosophy while simultaneously burning Flynn.

I think it's funny that I hear more about Pride month from homophobes than from actual members of the LGBTQ community

People Share What LGBTQ Pride Means To Them

I had the pleasure to attend Outloud Music Festival at WeHo Pride as a complimentary guest, and it was a beautiful weekend celebrating LGBTQ+ people and amplifying queer artists and allies. Over the weekend, we witnessed performances by Lizzo, Remi Wolf, Kim Petras, Honey Dijon, Paris Hilton, and many other music artists and performers. With everyone in great spirits, it was the perfect opportunity to ask the Ouloud Music Festival guests, "What Pride means to them?" and their responses were inspiring, heartfelt, and necessary. Here's what people had to say: "Having the comfortability to be yourself. Unfortunately, a lot of families and people are not able to express themselves. It's being able to express yourself, and hopefully build lifelong friendships and to break out the shell and stigmas that currently exist about the queer community." —Reggie "Pride is a protest. It means liberating our rights, and that includes trans rights. It means having as much sex as we can have, and liberating our rights preferably at the same time." "Pride means being whoever you need to be in this lifetime to make it, and I do feel like most people don't do that. Be exactly who you are. Don't fit into a mold. Find people who accept you for who you are." —Adam "Pride is not only a celebration of love and joy and life, but also a promise we are making to the people that came before us. Queer people have always been here, but there are so many ugly parts of our past where queer identities were systematically erased. For example, the way that the AIDS crisis was handled in the '80s. When I celebrate Pride, I am not only using it as a time to be out and open in my identity, but to honor those who weren't able to do so in the past, and those who fought for our rights to exist and be visible in the world." "A celebration of acceptance and just living your authentic life. There are lot of people who don't live their authentic lives and we do." —Grace "Pride is a remembrance of the Stonewall riots; it's a celebration of our community where we can present a safe space and remind everyone they are loved and matter; it's a message that the LGBTQ+ community has always been here and will always be here." "Pride means to be fully free in whatever identity and orientation you are and to celebrate queer culture with the community and others." —Linda "Pride means celebrating the anniversary of the strong and fearless pioneers in the community who stood up for what's right in 1969, plus honoring the fight that has continued ever since." "Pride means community, and it's a reminder that no matter what the world throws at us, we are still here and will continue to be here no matter what." —Paola Pride, to me, is a time when it's good to reflect on those who came before [us] to give [us] the advantages and opportunities [we have today]. It's also a time for me personally when I like to check in on my development and my journey as a gay person, who I have become, and whether I am proud of that person. As the years go on, the answer has become yes more and more." "Being an ally." —Zack "Taking ownership of who I am without shame or guilt of the heteronormative!" "To me Pride means allowing yourself to love and be loved no matter what. It's not a season, it's a feeling." —K "Pride means never being ashamed of who you are and always being true to yourself (I guess, LOL)" "A celebration of how far we've come and how far we have to go." —Gabriel "Pride is being able to feel enthusiastic and accepted all at the same time without having to worry if I fit in." "Being proud of who you are no matter what." —Tina Lastly, "My existence is validated." Now, it's your turn. I want to hear from the BuzzFeed Community: "What Pride means to you?" Don't be afraid to be honest, thoughtful, or just have fun. It's your time to express yourself. If you need, use the anonymous form below. The best responses will be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post!

"How Much Ketamine Are You On?': Jon Stewart Spotted A Huge Issue With This "Crazy" Theory Trump Shared Online

Daily Show host Jon Stewart on Monday dismissed Elon Musk's attempt to cut government spending for President Donald Trump as an 'epic fail.' But what really caught his eye was Musk's spacey demeanor during an Oval Office ceremony held last week to mark the billionaire's departure from the job. 'There might've been an explanation for that behavior,' Stewart said, and cited a New York Times report that Musk had been using a blend of drugs including ketamine, ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms and Adderall. That same report said Musk was experiencing bladder issues, which he told friends were caused by the ketamine. 'He told people that?' Stewart asked in disbelief. 'This dude is a one-man anti-drug campaign.' Stewart then offered up an ad for the mock campaign. As he spoke, an image of Musk was altered to show a wet patch forming around his groin. Stewart said it was another example of Trump 'pulling some new crazy thing out of his ass to distract us.' But Stewart pointed to a big flaw in that conspiracy theory with a question for the president. 'You're saying that the Joe Biden who doesn't even know where he is is actually an incredibly advanced cloned robot?' he asked. 'How much ketamine are you on?' Much like the image of Musk earlier, the one of Trump shifted to show a wet patch appearing around the groin. 'A lot,' Stewart concluded. Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman mourn death of 'Parks and Recreation' castmate Jonathan Joss

Chris Pratt and Nick Offerman paid tribute to their "Parks and Recreation" castmate Jonathan Joss following the actor's death this week. Joss was fatally shot in front of his San Antonio, Texas, home on Sunday by one of his neighbors, police said. He was 59. The actor had a recurring role as Chief Ken Hotate in the hit NBC sitcom. "Damn. RIP Jonathan. Always such a kind dude," Pratt, who had his breakthrough role as Andy Dwyer in the series, wrote on his Instagram story on Monday. "Sad to see. Prayers up. Hug your loved ones." Offerman, who starred in "Parks and Recreation" as Ron Swanson, told People magazine on Tuesday that he and other co-stars have been in contact since Joss' death. "The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken," Offerman said. "Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy." "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon, who was not on the sitcom, also paid her respects to Joss. She shared an image of the late actor on Instagram on Tuesday. "Was devastated to learn of the killing last night of the wonderfully talented actor and musician Jonathan Joss, who my family and I enjoyed so much in Parks and Recreation," she wrote. Nixon also repeated claims by Joss' husband that the actor was targeted because of his sexuality. "We will not let this stand," she said. The San Antonio Police Department said in a statement on Monday there was "no evidence" that Joss' killing was motivated by hate, but said the suspect would be charged accordingly "should any new evidence come to light." Conversations with Joss' neighbors and several police reports of prior incidents between Joss and the man arrested for his killing — Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja — paint a complicated picture of what led to the fatal shooting. Joss and Ceja were in a heated back and forth for years that was being mediated by a police crime prevention unit, according to police records and statements shared with NBC News. Ceja could not be reached for comment. The 56-year-old does not have a lawyer, according to the Bexar County District Clerk's Office. In addition to his role on "Parks and Recreation," Joss was also known for his role as John Redcorn in Fox's animated sitcom 'King of the Hill.' The animated series was rebooted and will premiere on Hulu in August, with Joss returning as Redcorn This article was originally published on
