Incredible plans for Mike Peters funeral as music world descends on North Wales village
Extensive preparations are being made in a Denbighshire village hosting the funeral of Welsh rock star Mike Peters. Thousands of fans are expected to travel from around the world to pay tribute to the legendary frontman.
A huge number of mourners are anticipated for the service in Dyserth at 3pm on Thursday, May 29. Details of the arrangements have been revealed as the village's 2,300 inhabitants brace for the mass arrival (see below).
A road closure is planned after the Peters' family liaised with Denbighshire Council and North Wales Police. Big screens will be erected to relay the invitation-only service to fans outside the small parish church of St Bridget and St Cwyfan.
Following the service, a celebration of Mike's life is planned with an evening of music at The Red, a cafe, bar and music venue on the B5119 Waterfall Road, Dyserth. Extra areas for gathering opposite The Red, and around the entrance to Dyserth's famous waterfall, are being made available.
The frontman of The Alarm, who battled cancer for 30 years, lived in Dyserth. He died on April 29, aged 66, leaving wife Jules and sons Dylan and Evan. Tributes have since poured in for the much-loved rock star who co-founded the Love Hope Strength cancer charity,
As well as friends and loved ones, colleagues from the music world are expected to attend his funeral. On social media, Mike's wife Jules posted how she had been 'touched by the outpouring of love' and how she was 'overwhelmed' by the number of people intending to visit from overseas. Issuing an open invitation to the funeral service, she said: 'Whether you knew him as the incredible musician he was, called him a friend or neighbour, respected him for the support he gave for others affected by cancer, or just want to be part of what we think will be a memorable day in a special place, you are very welcome to join us."
She added: 'We are doing everything we can to provide a fitting celebration to someone who lit up the world whilst he was here. All our family are so grateful to everyone in and around our village for the incredible support we've been given and for enabling us to recognise Mike's life in such an inclusive way, just as he would have wanted.
'As we have said before, it feels profoundly right that Mike's farewell will take place in Dyserth, the village where he was born and he proudly called home, and in sight of The Red, where he found so much happiness.'

Waterfall road will be closed to vehicles from 10am so that fans can gather outside the church. Seating inside St Bridget and St Cwyfan is limited and entry to the small church and its grounds is by invitation only.
A large outdoor screen and sound system will be set up in the morning in front of the church. Jules said this will enable fans to follow the service in real-time and 'join in with communal songs'. An order of service with song lyrics will be shared in advance of the day.
'Expect plenty of music!' she added. 'There will be ample space on the closed road for everyone to gather, reflect, and pay tribute.'
After the service, an evening of music at The Red is being held to continue the celebration of Mike's life. Extra areas for gathering opposite the venue, and near the waterfall are being made available to 'ensure there is space for everyone'.
Given the crowds expected, visitors are being urged arrive in the village by 2pm. Preferably earlier, said Jules – she is encouraging people to dine at local eateries. Parking details are below.
Parking and diversions
The B5119 Waterfall Road will be closed for its entire length between the A5151 and A547 from 10am until 6pm on Thursday, May 29. A diversion route of A5151 and A547 will be in place, via the roundabout at Rhuddlan Golf Club.
As parking space in the village will extremely limited, visitors are being advised to use one of three temporary car parks being provided for the day – or to use public buses.

This will have 500 car parking spaces, open from 11am-9pm. The hall is 25 minutes walk from the church.

Pembroke Dock variety show in aid of Homeless Pembrokeshire
Peter Kraus of Pembroke Dock is hoping that at least £1,000 will be raised for the event to help the registered charity, which offers crisis support, advice and emergency rough sleeping packs to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. 'It's horrifying to think how many people in Pembrokeshire are homeless, with some living in cars and tents,' said Peter, who has asked for donations to Homeless Pembrokeshire to mark his birthday.. 'I just wanted to do something to help.' The show - billed as 'a night of wonderful entertainment' will take place at The Cricketers, Imble Lane, Pembroke Dock on Friday June 13, with doors open at 7pm. Kirsten Orsborn is an acclaimed Welsh singer and Forces Sweetheart for the Royal Marines. Brynmawr food festival is taking place next weekend
The Brynmawr Town Centre Food Festival is returning next weekend on Saturday, June 14. The event is running from 10am to 5pm and promises to have something for everyone. Visitors can indulge in a wide range of offerings from food and drink vendors, serving delicious eats and refreshing beverages. With both sweet and savoury options and tonnes of stalls what's not to love? At the event popular Welsh businesses and local businesses will be on show. Visitors can also take advantage of a free park and ride service at Brynmawr Foundation School, ensuring easy access to the town centre. Live music performances will also be ongoing throughout the day creating a lively atmosphere. Attendees can look forward to performances by The Kiltics, Laura Jasmin, and The Valli Boys. Community radio presenters BGFM who will be hosting the event which will include interactive radio style games for the community to partake in.
