WNBA Gets Bad News as Caitlin Clark's Injury Absence Drags On
WNBA Gets Bad News as Caitlin Clark's Injury Absence Drags On originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Women's basketball has undeniably skyrocketed in popularity over the past several years, and there are multiple stars of the game -- both in college and in the WNBA -- who have contributed to that meteoric rise. Advertisement But Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark continues to tower above them all in that regard. WNBA ratings have proven as much since Clark went down against the New York Liberty with a quad injury on May 24. Initial projections had Clark missing at least two weeks. Those have proven correct, as Clark has sat out for the last 18 days and counting. The result of her absence on the league's ratings across the board has been drastic, according to a report from USA Today on Wednesday, June 11. Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Ruszkowski-Imagn Images "Nationally televised WNBA viewership is down 55% since [Clark's] injury, according to Nielsen," Jeff Zillgitt wrote. "Fever national TV games are down 53% since Clark's injury -- 1,810,000 average viewers before her injury and 847,000 viewers since her injury." Advertisement The Fever have suffered record-wise as well, going 2-3 without Clark in the lineup. Indiana is currently 4-5 on the season. The team next plays on Saturday against the Liberty in Indianapolis. Clark's status for that contest remains undetermined after team doctors reevaluated her injured quad last weekend. Clark has posted 19 points, 9.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in four appearances thus far in 2025. She won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award in 2024 after the Fever made her the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Clark also earned one of five spots as a First-Team All-WNBA performer last season. Sean McVay Makes Admission on Aaron Rodgers Playing for the Rams
Sean McVay Makes Admission on Aaron Rodgers Playing for the Rams originally appeared on Athlon Sports. If Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams hadn't worked something out to stay together for the upcoming season, Aaron Rodgers was in play as the veteran quarterback's replacement. Advertisement Sean McVay made it known that retaining Stafford for his fifth season with spiraling horns on his helmet was always Plan A, but there was a chance Rodgers could've returned to his home state. "I think that our first priority, which was consistently communicated, was, 'Hey, let's work something out with Matt,'" McVay said Wednesday on "Good Morning Football." "We were very fortunate that it worked out that way. If that wasn't able to occur, then that was definitely in conversations and a possibility for us. I have a ton of respect for the body of work and I've gotten to know Aaron and really enjoy the conversations and just the approach, the way he thinks about the game and in life. "And so that was a possibility, but our first priority was always to get Matthew back." Aaron RodgersCredits to Imagin Rodgers, who played at Cal from 2003-04, would've fit in McVay's offensive scheme, being that McVay and one of Rodgers' head coaches with the Green Bay Packers, Matt LeFleur, both come from Mike Shanahan's coaching tree. Advertisement Instead of joining McVay and the Rams, Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. Rodgers cited Mike Tomlin as the main reason he chose the Steel City. After zipping passes to DK Metcalf, he told the media Tuesday that he did have conversations with other teams. The Rams might have been one of them, along with the Minnesota Vikings. Zaltos, Mantzouranis go 1-2 in hammer to help Minnesota take lead in NCAA track championships
EUGENE, Ore. — Kostas Zaltos won the NCAA hammer throw and fellow Greek thrower Angelos Mantzouranis was second to help Minnesota take the Day 1 lead at the outdoor track and field championships Wednesday. Zaltos and Mantzouranis are the first teammates to go 1-2 in the NCAA hammer throw since Virginia Tech did it in 2011. Zaltos won with a throw of 256 feet, 2 inches in the fourth round to become the first Minnesota outdoor champion since 2018 and just the third since 1971. Mantzouranis, who finished third as a freshman last year, had a personal-best 252-6.
