Zirakpur: Barrier left open, train hits car, driver escapes unhurt
A car driver had a narrow escape after a train engine rammed into his vehicle at a railway crossing where the barrier was open in Zirakpur around 7.15 pm on Tuesday.
According to information from the spot, the railway crossing barrier was not fully closed and a red signal was flashing. However, the engine moved forward, ignoring the signal.
At that moment, a Maruti Suzuki WagonR car was crossing the tracks and the engine struck the rear of the vehicle, severely damaging it.
But the driver, Sunil, a resident of Vikas Nagar, escaped unhurt by jumping out of the vehicle in the nick of time. Sunil added that he was alone in the car and was on his way back home after finishing work.

Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old man was killed and three others sustained injuries after a Maruti Suzuki WagonR rear-ended a moving pickup truck on NH09 near Lal Kuan, Ghaziabad, on Wednesday morning, police said. Police identified the deceased as Mohin Khan, 30, and the injured as Sameer, Faizan, and Hitesh (in their 30s) -- all residents of Gajraula. The incident took place around 6.30am, when the four men were heading to Noida for office in a car, just when a pickup truck moving ahead of their WagonR suddenly applied brakes, officers said. 'A probe found that the pickup truck driver applied brakes to avoid an accident with another vehicle, and the WagonR driver that was behind the truck rammed into it at a high speed. The collision left the car's front damaged, making the driver fled the scene with his vehicle,' said SHO (Wave City) Sarvesh Kumar Pal. A passer-by alerted the police, and a visiting team from Wave City police rescued the injured from the mangled car and rushed them to a hospital where Khan succumbed to his injuries and the rest are hospitalised. Police have registered a case of causing death by negligence (106) under the BNS section at Wave City police station, and efforts are on to identify the truck driver, officers said.

Noida man attacks two teens, their Pit Bull after dog barks at him; arrested
A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking two teenagers and their pet dog, a Pit Bull, with a knife, Noida Police said on Monday. According to police, the accused, Sunil aka Bobby, lives in a JJ Colony in Noida's Sector 8. 'We arrested Sunil near Kohli Dharam Kanta in Sector 8. We also recovered the knife which he had hidden behind a toilet,' said Station House Officer, Noida Phase 1, Amit Kumar Maan. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Noida 1, Swatantra Kumar Singh, said the arrest was made based on a complaint by a woman, Urmila, who also lives in the JJ Colony. According to police, Urmila, in her complaint, told the police that the incident took place around 10.30 pm on Friday. Her two dogs were tied up outside while the family was inside their home. 'Suddenly, I heard my dogs barking… I came out and saw Sunil attacking one of my dogs with a knife. When we asked him to stop, he started hurling abuses at us and attacked my 17-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter,' Urmila alleged in her complaint. A senior police officer said the accused, who was drunk, was walking past the woman's home when the dogs started barking at him. He got angry and attacked the Pit Bull, said the officer. The ACP said an FIR was registered under sections 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (breach of peace), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relevant sections of the Cruelty to Animals Act, and relevant sections of the Arms Act. 'We sent them to the District Hospital for first aid, and later arrested Sunil after initial treatment. He has been sent to judicial custody,' said the ACP.

VHP, Bajrang Dal distance themselves from accused in Rahiman murder case
MANGALURU: VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders on Wednesday distanced themselves from those accused in the brutal murder of Abdul Rahiman in Bantwal taluk. Speaking to reporters here, VHP leader and Prantha Goraksha Pramukh Sunil KR said that VHP and Bajrang Dal workers do not commit such heinous crimes, nor does the organisation incite anyone to do so. When asked about the organisation disowning Suhas Shetty, when he was arrested in the Mohammed Fazil murder case and later owning him, when he was murdered last month, Sunil said Shetty might have done wrongs in the past. 'Check animal sacrifice during Bakrid' Sunil urged the police to strictly enforce the Prevention of Cattle Slaughter Act, given the possibility of Qurbani (animal sacrifice) on Bakrid. He said the police should install barricades to check the illegal transportation of cattle and increase surveillance in places where Qurbani or illegal slaughter had taken place in the past. He thanked Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy for rescuing 24 heads of cattle, while they were being illegally transported from Kerala to the city.
